Funjet ultra with 6s2p LG-HG2 Li-ion batteries. 130mph top speed. The footage is all from 1 x 22 minute flight going wild for most of the 22 minutes! The total distance covered was still 42 kilometers. On a separate flight the following evening, using less throttle, and flying smooth patterns, the plane covered 87km during a 70 minute flight, on the same setup and batteries. More to come I am sure. This is the future.

So after watching all your funjet videos I've bought one, not as a fast setup as yours but I'm nervous already and I have not built it yet! Last plane I flew was a majestic major with an 80 four stroke in it! This is going to be different!! Thanks for all the videos the information is great🙂
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD

Ah a Majestic Major :-) Would love one of those hehe, its funny how something different is so appealing :-) Do you have an idea on your power setup yet? The main catch to the funjet is launching. 2KW+ it is easy as you just send it up like a missile, but below that, horizontal launches are subject to torque roll before the airspeed increases over the wings. Try to maiden on a fairly windy day (not gusty) strange as it sounds. The launch will start with plenty of airspeed already, and the landing will be much slower. The hardest days to fly Funjets are when it is still and launches are more risky for torque roll to catch you out, and landings are super fast. If you can launch over a deep crop field, then often you can get away with a failed launch should it happen. Anyway, best of luck, I hope it works out well for you.

Dude... You build the coolest toys Rupert:-) I have been inspired by your Spitfire (rip) and want to do the same with a Hobbyking FW190 as a winter build. What pan/tilt device did you use?
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Harvard! You build awesome toys too, very jealous of some of your builds! How is the composite plane coming on? Pan only on the Spitfire. Uses a GWS360 sail winch servo: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKq8hZaHjMSFkJY

Hadn't seen that video. Great description there. The information there will be very useful. Were you happy with the power train on the spitfire? About the pomposite plane... I have decided to terminate the project.
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD 7 жыл бұрын
Very sad to hear you terminated the project :-( what is the reason? I think you would very well beat the record with your design. I am making composite parts myself now, and understand how hard and frustrating it is. So many failures along the way, an unbelievable amount of things that can go wrong....and very expensive too... Is your mould ok or did it get damaged with the first part? It is really nice when you vacuum the first part and it comes out super strong and light. Please don't give up my friend, you have inspired me and probably many others to have a try at composites. You will succeed if you keep going. For the Spitfire power train, it was ok. 5,000mah 4s would go 30km total, and around 100kmh top speed. Need flight controller to keep plane stable when you use head tracker, it is more relaxing and video looks better. My Spitfire was totally unflyable without the MFD autopilot switched on, far too heavy and the unusual drag from the camera movements made it bank all over the place.

About the composite plane: The molds are very good. The problem is the design, in particular the lack of space to fit the gear without getting to nose heavy. In short... I would have to start from the beginning again, and I don't feel inclined to do so at this time. As you know, the cost of a mold this size is huge. Also I feel a great deal of pleasure from flying fast and low in the 160-190 kph, doing 3-6km in single runs. I know you know what i mean:-) I think I will do a very similar setup as you did on your Spitfire on my future FW190. No landing gear, no flaps and a power full, yet effective setup. Also I totally love the position of your cameras. Real pilot head position wastes to much view. I will lightly sand the whole aircraft, glass it, prime it and do a real scale paint job. I know it sounds a bit over the top, but I am actually educated as a classical painter, so I pretty much know how to do effects.

Cheers me old chum! It is nothing new, but does seem a bit under exploited in our hobby really. No ready built RC packs commonly available in the UK yet! Seems crazy that people haven't cottoned on to the advantages. They would be easy to sell with these results. Hope you and family are well Crezzler.

Average around 100mph, tops 130 straight and level, no dive. Minimum around 50mph, she is a heavy girl. Will go out and do a cruise test later to see best range possible. I'm hoping for around 60km.

And what voltage was at the landing per cell on you 18650, do you change cut-off on your ESC to 2.8V? Thanks

Same battery, with a voltage regulator to bring the 25 volts down to 12v... any yes LC filter also.

Keep posting videos)))) Many likes from me!!!!))))) by the way I assume that you are using LRS, what was the max range?? also was wondering - if the plane has such power what would be vertical climb rate)))))))))
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD
@OMEGOOLIEBIRD 7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks! Yes using EZUHF, I have not pushed the range, but the equipment used for video and control is capabe of 50+ kilometers out. This plane is unable to sustain a vertical climb, it is built for flight time really! My other 6,500 watt Funjet in my videos, which has done 250mph, is capable of climbing continuously at 100 metres per second!!
