I feel like one of those people that raved about the song when it first came out! 🤣 I learned the poem differently as a child. "Mary had a little lamb, her father shot it dead. I wish I could pay the great Jimmy G to spend a day with me in which he would comment, in his loud, sarcastic, whisper and disgruntled facial expressions, on the situations I encounter as I go about my day. This, for sure, would make any day more bearable (especially at work).
