Funniest thing about the anti piracy ad? They didn't have permission to use that music on the DVDs in the first place. "Don't be a pirate so companies get paid for their work, while the guy who made this music doesn't get paid for his work"
@JayTee-rf7ci
@JayTee-rf7ci Жыл бұрын
There was a composer who was asked to write music for the antipiracy vid at a film festival. It was then used for antipiracy material that was more widely distributed, despite the initial agreement only being for one-shot use. So the video makers were contacted about royalties, and they paid up. But that was nothing to do with the famous antipiracy videos that we all know and hate, and that he's talking about here. It's a very famous story, but it's about something else.

The amusing thing about the unskippable anti piracy warnings, was that when making a backup, the warning is removed so as not to appear on the copy. Those who paid their license to watch the recording would see the warning whereas pirates would not.

an interesting thing about BTTF is that Michael J Fox doesn't have a middle name - he had to invent the "J" to register with the actors' guild because there was already a Michael Fox. And that Michael Fox starred in some episodes the 1950s tv series 'Science Fiction Theater', which is George McFly's favourite tv show in BTTF.

this is how you can tell people are weaksauce at visual analysis. the parents clearly were looking at him VERY differently at the end of the film, like they knew something. they even bought him that jeep at the age he helped them get together, they knew. even his father became a famous sci fi writer. people probably missed out on realising this moreso because George was supposed to join Marty and doc in Part 2 but Crispin Glover wanted to get paid a lot more for it. so all you can do is see how the actors perform whilst looking at marty at the end of part 1

The big problem with BTTF, if there is one, is that Marty is the youngest child. He should be the one that disappeared first in the photo, not the last one. That also fixes the issue Ed Byrne has .. they didn't even remember the name Marty, as they say it's a nice name BUT they had a son before him .. who'd you think would be named Marty in honor of the person that brought them together? NOPE, he's still the 3rd child, and the 2nd son born to them, so they couldn't have remembered Marty TOO fondly, you'd think.

The big thing people don't get is, once Marty puts his parents back together and leaves, their timeline continues, which means they have their kids (which why name the middle child Marty and not the oldest one is also weird) and so when Marty gets back to 1985, there should be 2 of him! Right? One the time traveller and one that was born through the natural course of time. They should both now be in the house at the same time.
@RelativelyBest
@RelativelyBest Жыл бұрын
Well, no, because they'd still be the same person. That "other" Marty isn't there because he went back in time and became the main Marty we see in the movie. Granted, this means he should start to remember growing up with a somewhat different family, particularly a much more confident father, but time travelers in BTTF seem to have some sort of resistance to that kind of thing. (Speaking of memories, though: In the second movie, future Marty and Jennifer really should have remembered that past versions of themselves were going to show up in 2015. I mean, that's not something you just forget about.)

@@wetterschneider No, there's just one Marty. Alterations to his past affects him directly, we know this since he started disappearing after preventing his parents from getting together. The fact that he prevented himself from being erased proves that he is still the son those two people ended up siring. There's no second Marty because the whole point of the movie is Marty making sure that he, specifically, is eventually born.
@RelativelyBest
@RelativelyBest Жыл бұрын
@@wetterschneider Look, a time traveler seeing a past version of himself do something he has already done is a standard trope for the genre. It does not in any way suggest that they are two separate iterations. The established temporal mechanics of BTTF are occasionally somewhat vague, but at least we can conclude that there are no multiverse-type branching timelines because in that case it makes no sense that Marty would start to disappear after preventing his own birth. There is only one timeline and only one version of a given person, though time travelers do not immediately experience alterations to their own past for some reason. (Possibly because traveling backwards in time makes your past causally unreliable, kinda like how subatomic particles can be in two places at once until observed.) I imagine that after the first movie, Marty gradually started recalling growing up in his "new and improved" alternate family, while still being aware of his original upbringing. (Because you can, in fact, remember things that never happen. We actually do that it all the time, turns out.)

It wasn't a stranger on a normal week. That week and that guy was the most influential and probably strangest of the McFly's entire lives. It started with an unusual event - "a guy got hit by a car and was allowed to live with us!" And he has a memorable name, one that became a cultural icon: Calvin Klein, world famous fashion designer. George became best buds with Calvin, who helped him turn his entire life around - helped him hook up with the love of his life and defeat the bully who'd tormented him for years. And then Calvin plays one of the most iconic rock'n'roll songs of all time, in the style of one of the biggest rock'n'roll acts of their lifetimes, Chuck Berry - but he does it three years before Chuck Berry does! They had to be thinking "Holy quacamole, did the granddaddy of rock and roll steal my friend's song?!" That's a pretty memorable guy! George knew Lorraine had a crush on Calvin, tried to hook up with him before she got with George. And then their firstborn son grows to be 17 he looks just like Calvin...

@@timdunn0well Marty was their third born, not first. He has a picture of him and his two older siblings that he watches fade. So add in at least three years to Marty’s age Then there is the whole thing with memory. We don’t actually remember anything. We remember memories. After twenty+ years no one accurately remembers a persons face. And they sure wouldn’t one day look at a child they have been raising for seventeen years and think they are the person from minimum three years before they’re born This “plot hole myth” is as old as the movie.

@@raymondparisza5094 Marty being younger doesn't negate the possibility of an affair. People reconnect with old flames all the time. I'm not saying George and Lorraine should think Marty is Calvin Klein, or that they should somehow be suspicious that time travel is real. I'm saying George would have good reason to think Marty is Calvin's lovechild, and Lorraine would have good reason to be freaked out at having a son that looks and acts like a guy she never slept with. Including all that would clog up the movie unnecessarily, but it's a fun quirk to think about.

And in reality they would only see Marty as the child they raised with “his fathers eyes and his mothers lips” or something. They would never even give the guy from that week they met other then to tell the “story” every once in a while And guarantee Loraine leaves out the part where she tries to f Marty

The McFlys may or may not think that Marty looks alot like their best bud, Calvin Klein, but it doesn't matter. Because they can't think anything of it. The concept of time travel shenanigans is beyond them, so while they might think it weird, they know there's no connection, otherwise. How can there be? Calvin never did anything on the side, after all. In fact, what they remember is that he was firmly *against* interfering with those two. So, it must be a coincidence.

Oh...buddy...if you think THAT'S the problem... Here's the deal, man... If you go back in time...AT ALL...no matter how briefly you're there, no matter how little you actually interact with anything at all... You will have completely, and irrevocably erased from existence every lifeform in the entire universe that was conceived after the moment of your arrival in the past. Period. Because when you go back...quantum mechanics kicks back in...and everything becomes uncertain again...because you CANNOT violate it. And once that happens, all the trillions upon trillions of quantum events that happen to make one sperm find one egg at exactly the right instant, among other things, all go right out the window permanently. In the case of the time-traveler, it doesn't really matter, because if you leave the future...then nothing that happens to that future affects you anymore. If you're not there, it doesn't matter. What happens in some other frame of reference, has nothing to do with whatever other one you're in. Something that happens to you in a hypothetical past near a black hole, has no impact on the future you outside of it, or vice-versa. But for everyone who didn't travel, and weren't already born by the time you arrive in the past? Bye-bye all. It creates an even bigger problem in BTF2 and 3. That Sports Almanac was completely worthless. The instant they went back, the outcome of every one of those games would've changed drastically. When Doc got sent back to 1885, it would've erased the entire population of the universe born after 1885. Marty, his siblings, their parents, their grandparents...Jennifer and her whole family, and so on. All gone...forever...replaced by completely different people, or in some cases no one at all. Everywhere in the cosmos.

Only if it's linear. If it's a multiverse, which is also possible with Back to the Future, they just leave their original dimension and never return. The universe still survives, but you cease to exist in it and your family would be filing a missing persons report that'll never be solved. Marty's original timeline already was and they could've traveled back in time to a universe that hasn't begun their chain of events and are only affecting the future of the universe they're stuck in. So their actions are already embedded in that universe's history. Just the same as a time traveler could've left another universe and entered Marty's original universe in the past and affected the future of that specific universe. Time travel or not, you can't really undo what has already happened.

My problem with "Back to the Future" is that the movie spoon feeds us everything we need to know: the clock tower getting hit by a lightning bolt (very convenient), how his parents met, his uncle in prison, how Doc Brown got the idea for time travel, the name of the mayor, even the name of the dance Marty's parents attended. It's all spilled out so that when Marty goes back in time we'll be just as informed as he was, just too pat.

That's called setup. Without it the scene with Goldie sweeping wouldn't mean anything to us, and thus the film would just be missing it. Lots never comes back to be relevant, just a joke about Joey needing to get used to "these bars" If you think less time having the information on where Marty needs to go would be a good idea then what would it look like? Ultimately you've got to show it somewhere otherwise he just "very conveniently" bumps into just the right person at the right time, a film of Marty learning Doc's accident with the toilet seat earlier on in their relationship doesn't give us anything new for his character or Doc. There was never a consideration to show any time of Marty helping Doc with experiments for that reason, they knew it wouldn't add anything to the experience. He just has a cool inventor friend who he helps because the guy is cool and it's better than hanging around at his house (as it is in the original timeline, or with his band all the time)

Arguably the _only_ music to have improved with age is 80s music.
