As a vegetarian german: yes. I just got served roasted potatoes with bacon. Asked the waitress if they could add to the menu that there's bacon in it, so people who don't like it know. The confusion on her face was priceless! "But you can't make them any other way." 🤣

It's Germany. They follow the recipe! To the letter! Whether if it involves the hair of orphan paraplegics and the letter is a pictogram of a squirrel smoking a chair made from horseradish is beside the point; rules are rules and instructions are law and they are there for a reason! Everything is illegal except that which is to be done, specifically, now and immediately and there is the booklet! Pick it up and read! And the booklet _itself_ is made of bacon, because that's how early they want to get you! Not even your eyes are supposed to be vegan. Not that I don't understand the sentiment, mind. I mean, who the hell respects vegans? You can barely see them, they're so thin and transparent. And I'm speaking morally here... But Germans... Bit of a problem with the concept of zero, there. People say that Germany is a grey and rather depressing place. Nonsense. Germans don't have a concept of grey; even if you think it looks that way, if you look close enough at the surface it's actually gradated dots, spaced very, very precisely according to a standardized chart. Including on the people. They don't understand "pretty" or "fairly" either. I mean, either sense of the words. "Vat? It funchshions, and dat is dat. I don't kaer if it luuks like a tractor vomited on a hobo. Dis is how ve do it! Eet your beykon unt be happy dat it's not Vednesday and ve beat you viz sticks, you auful bathrobe-vearing person"...

About German comedy: I recently talked to a German woman, and I mentioned that I had watched this German comedy with the actor Til Schweiger, and I asked if she knew of this film. She looked at me, deadpan: "German comedy? I didn't know there was such a thing."
@patatanectarian
@patatanectarian 3 жыл бұрын
many germans try to deny, that movies with Til Schweiger exist. His older movies (especially "Manta, Manta" and "der bewegte Mann" (the most desired man)) are guilty pleasures because you can't really tell if he's a great actor who acts as a drunken proll, or a drunken proll who miserably fails at acting.

I still find it hilarious and wonderful that my first time experience Dylan's comedy was when he played "four eyes" in Shaun of the Dead, which is so damn incredibly ironic as he was playing the almost exact opposite character from nearly every other bit of comedy he's ever done. He's always had that, I have one of his earlier DVDs and his hand still does that when he gets close to the punchline. It might be due to his past drinking addiction, but he's tee total now.

Yes, there are a bunch of extremely long compound words in the German language. The word "Gemüsesuppe" is not one of them. It's actually two letters shorter than its literal English translation "vegetable soup".

I've recently descended into middle age; Dylan is pretty much the guide for that circle of hell or heaven. Depends on how you do it.

Whichever way you decend into your middle aged era, it's still decending...there's nothing heaven about it. Unless you're on a jetski.

To which case, middle-aged people on jetski's are always ones having a mid-life crisis...so it's still rather sad. Further solidifying the fact that there is no heaven about it.

I never really liked RW standup, always seemed too try-hard, too show-off, more about speed than quality. DM has a poet's gift, a full blast Irish lyricism which cannot be faked. I say that as an Englishman.

It's kinda hilarious when a Brit makes fun of non-British cuisine. It seems like you go to war with good taste. "These are fries, but we call them chips, and we drown them in a vinegar substitute. You know what's great for breakfast? Fucking beans, man. Start the day off with a bang, let your innards know who's boss! We use white ones in some red sauce to get the maggot visual going, just in case anyone's not thoroughly disgusted yet. And once you're done puking, we'll surprise you with a dessert called spotted dick, if the recipe won't make you start barfing again, the name will."

Another difference is that Brits can laugh at themselves while Germans prefer to laugh at others. And yes, I have lived for over 10 years in both countries and speak both languages at native level so yes, this is based on lots of experience and not prejudice.
