The French actually gave Irish fans an honorary award for cheering them up after the terrorist attacks not long before that and for showing “exemplary sportsmanship”. It was a time when the police where heavily criticized and were becoming accustomed to riots - so a bit of good-natured hooliganism and drunk people attempting to be respectful “stand up for the French Police” was welcome. Believe me, the police didn’t mind too much. Apparently we left a good impression, but I don’t remember much of it myself 😂

The Irish love to get out on a holiday/vacation especially if there is a big sporting event like the football , UFC whatever excuse to go and enjoy a good time away from home get drunk and have as much fucking fun as humanly possible. In northern Ireland you can be an Irish citizen or a British citizen or you can be both. Irish citizens in the north can play for the south but the Citizens of the republic can’t play for the north.
