I like when controllers take their job both seriously and not so seriously. Not a shred of safety lost but still a calming voice on the radio!

First of all, *somebody* has been listening to Kennedy Steve ;-) And that's not a bad thing; Dave sounds like a very competent controller who loves his job as much as Steve did. We need more like him! Secondly, thanks for the explanation of PDC! Even as a pilot, that one slipped by me. Great video :-)

@@VASAviation ACARS does use a frequency, just not a voice one. It is QPSK FM and not the AM that airplanes use for voice communication. It is in the digital portion of the airband 130,000mhz -136,995 mhz.

@@sassychick813 I believe it must be standard, at least at bigger airports, b/c kennedy steve mentioned in an interview that all ATC at Kennedy worked all positions, each shift. Typically no more than 60-75 mins spent working ground (and presumably others, too) before rotating to next position.

If the PDC doesn't use radio frequency, how does the airplane receive it? Plugin land line connection? It must use radio frequency, I can't think of any other way the airplane would 'receive' it.

It does, but in short bursts of packet, f.ex. over ACARS (quo vide).

What do they mean by "short"? Final runway?
@realulli6 жыл бұрын
Cristian Fernández holding short of something means, "go there, but don't enter it yet". They have hold short lines in all the necessary places on the airport, they are like the stop lines before a traffic light.

I don't know that Steve was better, but he was certainly more consistently funny and mildly sarcastic. This guy is very good and efficient, but not enough humor (and no tug talk!) to make me want to listen to him endlessly, like with Steve.
