So many instructors would get visibly angry and frustated with the student in these circumstances. The effect of that is usually that the student makes another mistake due to lack of confidence. You have a really positive and confidence inducing way of correcting student errors! Great stuff as usual!

@@6Twisted a lot of people say "Act like they didn't see you." Which implies cars are ignorant but I prefer to say that cars are malicious and you should "Act like cars have seen you, and they want to kill you." Which forces you to always be thinking defensively so you're constantly processing ways to evade potential threats. Separately to that I also think that riding offensively can remove a lot of hazards before they even develop.

I love your videos. It always amazes me how you develop a sixth sense on the road, not that you can rely on it but you can often predict when somebody will do something silly. I have just started driving after 5+ years on a bike and I am surprised how defensive my driving is, never drive alongside another car, always expect somebody to turn into you, never trust indicators, always expect the unexpected and never assume that other drivers have anything other than impatience and empty air between their ears. I would love to do an advanced riding day with you sometime next summer.

Brilliant!;))) Please let your pupils know, or make sure to understand, that when filtering through traffic don't fly past cars, use their head lights etc. and if they are following a biker through traffic between cars they leave enough space so ppl can see the second rider. I got nearly nailed by two different bikers on 2 different occasions while trying to get through dead stopped traffic, because I saw one biker and let him go, and just had a hunch, to not to go out as he passed me, but wait a sec, and as soon as I had the hunch a biker flew past me... And just to be careful and vigilant in peak traffic, morning and evening commute where ppl are not feeling the best and can lack of concentration. Also, don't really do over 10mph+ over the speed of the flowing traffic. I got nearly nailed by one driver who changed lanes on a 3 lane motorway without indication and in one quick motion, when it was really uncalled for. But because I was just barely over the speed of the flowing traffic this happened about 3-4 cars ahead of me so it was no biggy, but could have been baaad if I would have been going faster. Keep up the good work!;))

Its hard to explain that 'sixth sense' feeling you get for when another road user is about to do something that will slow your progress, my sixth sense has been developed through driving trucks and it's easy to guess the intentions of other road users while driving a truck when everyone MUST be infront of the truck, its suprising the amount of road users who can't see a steel brick coming towards them

I have long held the theory that cars and drivers exhibit “ body language”. The type and age of car, position on the road, driving style, speed etc all give off important clues and very often something that I anticipate will happen happens. Spooky huh?

Stereotypes exist. Also, we see standard patterns in driving that make a good drive... When we see these patterns change, we get this "6th sense" and that's when we see the bad driving.

Russ I have got a question for you. Would it be correct to say that the motion of coming to a stop begins with Front braking and ends with Rear braking?
@RoadcraftNottingham
@RoadcraftNottingham 4 жыл бұрын
Close throttle then squeeze front and rear brake together (front slightly before rear) about 75/25 in dry, 50/50 wet then ideally finish with rear only but not essential if smooth. Rear brake only below 10mph as a general rule. Looks like a new upload needed. Bottom line is understanding the consequences of incorrectly applied brakes. Hope this helps.
@themonitor7877
@themonitor7877 4 жыл бұрын
@@RoadcraftNottingham Perfect. I watched one of your videos, I think it was the slow speed control video and from that point on, I started to brake with both brakes then come to a stop with rear brake only. Much smoother than stopping with just front brake (on my particular motorbike). Looking forward to a dedicated *Braking Video* .

At and about 1.30 we are riding in the dark and in the wet, its raining and the road surface is wet. That tells us that our braking distance has to be extended to more than the 2 second rule. But what does it tell us about the importance of our own visibility to see well. Under normal light conditions we would travel at a speed appropriate to what we can see. but in wet and dark our ability to see is somewhat reduced is it not? If one thinks about it with such a limitation just how much visibility do we actually have or indeed lose ? If it's being a normal dry daytime with perfect visibility and that means 100% then how would you rate the visibility on the video at 1.30. a reduction of 10% or maybe 30% or even more. Maybe 50% ? The greater the loss of visibility the greater our concentration and awareness should be and as a result the slower our speeds should be. Unfortunately not many drivers or other road users know that and will still drive at up to the speed limit no matter what the weather or light conditions are, They have no idea just how dangerous they actually become in the dark and or wet weather or merely just damp or wet roads. Under such circumstances we must be more vigilant, less aggressive and give as much space and following distance as we can in order that we can see more and more can see us.

@@RoadcraftNottingham I have always know that. The last debate we had, made by me was designed to be actually misleading and questions what the H.C said in S.126 . It was made on purpose and I wanting to make readers understand that not all that one reads is to be taken as gospel and used S. 126 to prove that point. This example was used by a Police traffic driving instructor many,many about 40. years ago when I was in the service. He got us to study and learn word for word what S. 126 of the H.C.said, one night whilst on a driving course and then spent an hour the following morning testing us on it, debating what it said and what we actually read into it. and ended up tearing S. 126 to pieces.

could be seen as a game, but to me it isn't. far too many car drivers don't give a sh1t about the safety of other road users, especially motorcyclists. some look you right in the eyes before taking priority instead of giving way like the road signs tell them to. and some even smile and give some kind of "f u gesture". not a game to me.
