Am older and married more than once. I have one living child and two stillborn. I have been very happily single for a long time, I have my son, his partner, and my doggies. I have full control of the remote and how to decorate my bedroom etc. wouldn’t change it for anything now. No answering to anybody about where I’m going, what’s for tea (my son cooks). It’s great for me but the only thing I miss is a cuddle and someone who is good at tying knots as my son is hopeless.

@John Doe not when you’re constantly having to clean up after them, find their keys, phones, do their taxes, listen and laugh at their groany jokes and know that when they go away for a couple of days every now and then, you see that the house stays clean and you don’t have to to do stuff for them and realise that at the the end of the day you didn’t do what you wanted to do, such as read a book or have a long soak in the tub with candles and then get into a fresh linen bed and not endure snoring or farting or being woken up in the middle of the night by someone spending absolutely ages trying to get their slippers on to visit the bathroom and rocking the bed about making you feel like you’re in a yacht in force 8 gales. I would miss them very much but I would also enjoy the time I had left for just me, thanks very much.

I'd really given up. Joined a gym so I'd have something to do in the evenings. Met my husband there, nearly 29 years ago (next month is anniversary). I'd always been supportive of couples and asked them where they met. Now I can tell people about us too. Don't get despondent, just get your own life together and with luck the other person will happen. x
