After getting every single moon in this game a while back, I had a great time watching this video. I liked every minute, and especially loved when you explained the intended way to collect a moon. For some of these, I remember trying so hard to collect the moon, and wondered why the devs made it so hard. But when you told me the way I was intended to do it, I remembered the long periods of time I tried to get the moon in the unintended way. It felt like you truly cared about this wonderful game, and those emotions were given to me as well. Thank you Odyssey Central, for bringing back the joy of this game once again :)
To be honest, The Forgotten Treasure is one of, if not my favourite moon(s), simply because I find it really sweet that Mario is helping out Cappy and his old friend, revealing that Cappy had a whole life before deciding to help Mario. Mario Odyssey was the first Mario game I ever played. Shortly after completing it, I found this channel and heard mention of a "ranking all moons" video when it reached a subscriber milestone. I completely forgot about that until it popped into my recommended, and I'm glad it's finally come out! I'm gonna take the time to reminisce about some of my favorite and least favorite moons here. I prefer puzzles and aesthetics for my Mario games more than difficulty though, so I imagine my rankings will differ significantly. 2:39 I was about to say "the jump rope wasn't the worst" but... I completely forgot that moon existed. One of the most out there "how would you know you have to do this" moons in the game. Terrible 6:34 I literally had to look this one up. My first instinct was to ground pound it or throw it off the dragons head, when that didn't break it after ten or so attempts I assumed I was doing something wrong and left. 11:19 These ones were actually much higher for me. Such a cute little concept! I feel like if the tourist followed Kingdoms in the same order you unlocked them it might not be as annoying, but as-is I like it 29:13 My favorite of these is the four slot machine one. Three is too easy, five is too hard, four is just right! 30:06 There was a block there!? I swear I did a leap and roll from the nearby cliff 32:37 One bone I'll throw this version of the fight, in his regular fight you can uncapture the Gushen and ground pound to deal massive damage. In the rematch you *have* to stay in the Gushen the entire time or you'll die. Granted that makes the fight more tedious instead of more hard, but at least they spiced it up a bit. 39:54 One of my favorite secret paths/zones in the game. Such a delight! 41:35 While the intent of this line is in context of the moon-rock moons, it reminds me of one of my biggest gripes with the game. The majority of the Shivera moons are not just inside a massive sub area, but even a sub area of that sub area, making the Hint Toad/Moon Tracker for that Kingdom absolutely pointless. While having a forced hint may be annoying, having a hint you actively sought out give you zero information is even more annoying. 44:55 While this moon itself isn't too special, if I remember right this was the first hint-title that Talkatoo gave me. For another Kingdom or two I had just assumed you had to talk to the parrot to unlock the music note puzzles. Good times. 46:28 The sheer, unadulterated laughter I had when I saw Toad out on that beam cannot be understated 58:47 I forgot about that one! I was surprised at how fast I spotted it. Well actually, if I remember right I spotted it, freaked out, got caught and stuck on the crowd, he left through the door, I hung my head because of how hard it would be to spot him again, then I instantly spotted the new one that spawned. 1:02:00 I'd actually argue this is the easiest of the art-hints 1:14:47 Is actually my least favorite of the hint arts. The first time I saw it I completely missed the compass in the top right. I assumed you had to line up the camera with the pose the Koopa was doing and then follow the arrows, which *does* lead you to a pair of nearby bushes. I spent a good half an hour running circles around the Koopa trying to figure it out before caving and looking it up. Actually wait 1:36:21 yeah that one's pretty horrendous too, but at least it's hint isn't misleading in any way. 1:19:42 Man that one gave me a lot of trouble. I swear I spent like an hour on it a night before work, threw in the towel, then turned the game on the next morning to give it another try just in case, I beat it after one or two tries. Amazing what a break can do. 1:24:57 To throw my hat in the ring here, one thing I *hate* about both the circle walk moons and the Koopa Race moons is that they are based on your *current* performance, not your *best* performance, despite the fact that the actual input skill doesn't change at all between the easy mode and the hard mode. For example, in the Sand Kingdom you get the first moon with score of 80 and the second moon with a score of 90. My first time playing the minigame, I got lucky and landed a crazy score of like 96, which got me the first moon. But from every point onward, I was hitting the 70-80 ranges. I already beat the high score of 90 that was supposed to be for the second moon, so having to beat it *again* was super annoying. The only time I can see this "you have to beat the easy mode before you can even attempt the hard mode" mentality panning out is the memory game puzzles, because for those your on screen hints change a bunch. But for the Koopa Races your opponents who can't touch or interact with you just get a higher score and the circle walk doesn't change at all. Like imagine if you were playing Cuphead, and you were fighting the Devil for the first time, and you managed to beat him in under 2 minutes, with no hits, and landing all parries, and then the end card comes up and says "Woah, you got an A+. Do that all over again for an S." that would be annoying. 1:26:59 My favorite use of the Unagi 1:28:11 I had a blast trying to kill all the Spinies by luring them off the edge 1:31:53 Same 1:32:03 Surprised this one is so high on the list. Just about everyone else I've seen considers this to be one of the most annoying because of how absurdly well hidden it is. I've exclusively heard complains about it. 1:32:52 Funny story, I used a Gushen to reach Toad here on my playthrough. I decided to land on the fire because the Gushen were surrounded by water and have been shown to extinguish fire in the past. I was on one heart. They do not extinguish the fire. 1:33:24 I literally screamed "Poochi" in surprise in the dead of night during this moon. Absolute gold 1:41:36 I didn't even know the game had a first person mode till this moon. 1:42:16 My favorite of the Captain Toads. Such a chill and memorable spot. 1:45:28 The Ogres in this room legitimately jumpscared me. I somehow managed to avoid them for a whole minute or so while exploring, and freaked when one came around the corner 1:54:41 I actually rebound my buttons for the bound bowls. Helped a lot! 1:55:08 For Dark Side, I have WAY lower. IMO, the Dark Side version of this subworld (and the 100 jumpropes but everyone talks about those) are the only moons in the game that I think are *too* hard. While a lot of Odyssey's moons are challenging, they are at least fun challenges. These guys are flat out annoying. You have to pull off multiple frame perfect jumps in order to get it to work. As you talked about earlier in the video, a lot of the moons in this game have multiple methods to tackle them. Having a specific path you have to use specific moves on, combined with taking so long to get through, and having to start over every time ramps up the difficulty way too much. In the end I put on Assist Mode so I could respawn by each P-Switch on failures as it easily took 10-20 times as long as any of the other Dark Side maps. Hell, I think even Darker Side was easier for me than this. This is a mainline Mario game, not a Kaizo, something so speedrunner-skewed and casual exclusive just feels wrong. 2:02:45 Don't know if I'm alone in feeling this, but I always felt like Topper's fight at the start of the game is the absolute easiest of the Broodals, while his fight at the end is the hardest. It's amazing how just adding extra hats/projectiles can ramp up the difficulty 2:03:12 Such a fun chase scene! Iconic! 2:05:34 Full disclosure, I hate racing minigames in videogames. A large part of that is down to those Superman 64 esc rings so many of them throw in, which Mario Odyssey avoids and I'm thankful for, but the PSTD from things like LEGO Batman 3 put me off trying the Odyssey ones until basically the end of the game. Eventually I bit the bullet and looked up some routing guides for the best paths to take. Surprisingly enough, once you know which path is best, most of them are actually really easy! And, funny enough, it wasn't until these racing guides that I knew you could jump off of Cappy. Most of the Races only took me 2-5 tries after finding a route to complete, but Wooded... Wooded was a different beast. That jump over the pit, at just after 2:05:48, Gave me so much trouble. At the time I was grinding these, my mom had a doctors appointment out of town and asked me if I wanted to tag along. I did, and brought my Switch to get through as my of them as I can. The elation I felt after finally pulling that jump off and her confusion why I was so happy yet relieved was fantastic. 2:09:11 I have nothing to add that you didn't already say here, just seconding that this is one of the greatest moments in Mario history 2:10:05 Full disclosure, around a year before I played Mario Odyssey for myself I had watched RT Games highlights on it. Mainly because I didn't have a Switch yet and felt like it was time I looked into the experience. This was one of the few moons I remembered from his playthrough when I went into mine. I spent the entire game dreading it and fearing the moment it would come. Took like 3-10 tries. Less than most the other Dark Sides. I laughed my ass off. 2:20:06. Now this. THIS is what a hard fight should be. Screw taking a speeder away from a speeder puzzle on Dark Side. Screw stringing together a bunch of mid-tier challenges with no checkpoints to create artificial difficulty like on Darker Side. This is a legit challenge, but one that is both fun to retry and satisfying to complete. The first few times facing it I thought the speedrun circles on the legs were the *intended* way to beat Harriet and was so relieved when the mech kneeled during stage four. It's honestly a better final boss than Bowser, but I can forgive that for the final escape scene.

2:10:03 There is one really awesome thing you can do here to skip all of those hard long jumps. If you ground pound jump, wall jump against the hard blocks, wall jump against the actual wall, and dive back onto the hard blocks, you can run all the way back to the start on the half destroyed blocks rather than the 10 very difficult ones below. This game is truly incredible with just how many different options you get to choose from to solve problems.

That glitch is called a CRC, or Cappy return Cancel. What you need to do is get Cappy stuck behind something and repeatedly Ground Pound with him until he warps to a Checkpoint. This also works with a Capture, such as the binoculars in the Metro Kingdom.

Amazing video, honestly the number one change I might make (discounting personal feelings on some moons) would be to raise the placement of some of the costume moons, particularly the ones where the costumes are gained by purple coins. Partly because it's cool that Mario can change costume, but also because I think the purple coins should be factored into those moons and collecting the purple coins is a lot of fun!. Again, amazing work!

Same reason I like assist mode, some people simply just aren't as good at this type of game and I want them to be able to experience it in whatever way they want. Whether that be assist mode or hunting down heart drops, it adds on to the vibe that mario odyssey just lets you do whatever you want
