up until the 2000s anime shows wouldn't have seasons, they would air from start to finish without stopping (a lot of them had a lot of fillers because of that), and the change of opening/ending was a way to tell about a new arc or a new section of the story, so one single anime would have several openings, but it's still one anime, that was the norm back then

Keep in mind regarding the human-animal chimeras. Tucker "designed" his two specimens with the specific goal of obscuring the human ingredient, after all he was essentially trying to create sapience from creatures that lack sapience, and under pressure he took the shortcut, but had to hide the fact that he took it. Whoever made Greed's gang seems to have intended to create people who can walk around in society without drawing too much attention, but who have extra-ordinary abilities, thus in their case the "design" seeks to play up the humanity as far as possible without losing the desired animal abilities. Tucker tried to hide that there is a human in there; for the others, the creator tried to hide that there is an animal in there. It's not that Tucker is bad at making human-animal chimeras, it's that he had different specifications for his chimeras.

@@joshualandry3160 I don't think so. This is a setting wherein souls are an established thing. It seems that human souls uniquely possess sapience/the capacity for speech. This means that for Tucker to create a chimera capable of speech would necessitate infusing a human soul into the chimera. There are two ways to do this: 1. To do as Tucker did and procure an existing human soul to use. 2. To use alchemy to create a human soul (this would constitute human transmutation). Consider that Father is looking for sacrifices and his whole operation possibly lured Tucker into being a state alchemist hoping that he might perform human transmutation in order to complete his research, thereby granting them a potential sacrifice.

What Tucker was doing was, basically what the PUBLIC was allowed to know about "talking chimeras". Obviously no one knew they were made with humans but, as far as the public (or at least regular military/alchemists) was concerned that was the *height* of chimera transmutation. The human based ones from Greed's gang was a top secret thing. Like, suuuuper secret, super soldier type top secret thing. They probably let Tucker continue doing what he was doing as like, a smokescreen so that no one would look further. I promise, Scar wasn't upset about the tiny panda. He was shook b/c she's so cute. Him reaching out was him trying to pet her. They kinda omitted that from the anime. Likewise, Al has a habit of "adopting" stray cats off the street and hiding them in his armour.

I came here to say this exact same thing. Tucker was only a propaganda piece to make the public think biological alchemy is steadily improving when in reality, the military has long since mastered with human-based chimera project. Remember when Envy reported to Lust that Tucker had been murdered, and left barely responded at all? It's because whatever plans that the homunculi have going on, Tucker was never going to be part of it because they knew he was a third rate alchemist.

10:27 to "be a matrix" was an explanation, not an alternative title for an alchemist who tried to transmute a human. here, alchemy is a function of science. in terms of that, science is a study of the flow of existence, and alchemy is the utilization of that flow. to say one is a matrix is to recognize one's part in the flow. trees, animals, the ocean, the sun, all that live in the soil. they are each like us a matrix of that flow given form.

In the anime/manga, the Japanese words for "Alchemy" is "錬金術" which is directly translated as "metal forming art" whereas "alkahestry" is "錬丹術" which is directly translated as "pill forming art". Also how it refers to one being used for war and other used for medicines. It does have real life history, where western alchemy focuses more on metallurgy and eastern alchemy focuses more on making medicinal pills. Hence both 錬金術 and 錬丹術 translates to "alchemy", but there's a need for distinction so they use a made up word of "alkahestry" for eastern alchemy (from the word 'alkahest'). Interesting facts: Western alchemy believes that gold is a perfect material, and that it is possible to transmute the "soul" of gold into ordinary metals to turn them into gold. Western alchemy believed that the Philosopher's Stone is a mythical material that turn base metals into gold, and can be made into the Elixir of Life. Eastern alchemy believes that gold and mercury (in the form of cinnabar), are the perfect materials given that they do not appear to rust or corrode. It was believed that turning gold into a pill form (金丹)or inputting them together with herbal pills to make immortality pills (仙丹) and ingesting it will transfer the inert properties into humans in the form of immortality. Also western alchemy's definition of elixir is usually in a liquid form, but the eastern alchemy's definition of elixirs is in a pill form. Which is also the basis for how HP/MP potions in video games that are liquids, and in Wuxia fantasy ManHua the same items are in spherical pills.

Just a little info in the opening/ending culture. Since the 60's anime like western animations had jingle intros that were kept through the entire series, but in the 80's some studios decided to break the tradition and started having actual singers and bands write/perform songs that were used as opening and endings. Nowadays a big appeal of an anime is which famous singer/band will be used for the themes, and budget is assigned to make the videos as appealing as possible (there's even reactors dedicated to react to openings) Most anime change the opening and ending every 12-13 episodes or every 26 episodes depending on how many episodes they have, FMAB changes it a little because it has a bit more than the usual 13-26-52 episodes length.

Tucker’s original research may have had a useful purpose for the military as they were able to take his research and likely reverse engineer it and understood what he did and furthered it on their own to make the chimeras we just saw. There’s other reasons too but I won’t mention it here as that part hasn’t been revealed yet
@oq11062 ай бұрын
Three thoughts come to my mind on this; for one, the military was working with philosopher stones so they could obviously do more radical things. Two, they were specifically trying to enhance humans with animal traits. Tucker was pretending to hybridize "smart" animals and hide that his shortcut was to just mix in humans. So his creations were always meant to "pass" as animals. Third, knowing he couldn't get anywhere without resources and was held back by the assumption that his true research was "too shocking and offensive" to be open about, the military could have had an actual interest in leaving him to be a bad chimera alchemist in his little study. He made for a good "front" to deny that what they were actually doing was alchemically possible. Because everyone seemed to think he was doing "cutting edge alchemy" - based on that a healthy, functional half-cow-guy would sound like a conspiracy.
@87rabbitsproductions712 ай бұрын
@@oq1106 the number 1 reason I think they kept him around is because of the nature of his research, he would very likely be someone who would break the taboo and perform human transmutation which would then make him a candidate for sacrifice like Ed, Al, and Izumi.

Anime stories are typically broken up into cours of around 13-ish episodes, with each cour having an updated intro sequence that will serve the same purpose the one before it did - teasing events to come that may or may not happen as depicted up front. Being able to understand everything in an intro sequence with clarity because all its teased events have come to pass in the episodes proper is a clue that you're coming up on the end of the current one pretty soon, and it will be replaced by a new one. This is something you'll learn to get used to really quickly if you're going down the anime rabbit hole. FMAB has five opening/ending pairs in total.

You kind of called it with the opening and ending change. It has to do with broadcast seasons on Japanese television. A lot of anime is broadcast in 12-episode seasons, so marking it out into seasons is easy. Some, however, will run one "season" across multiple broadcast seasons. In that case, the anime is usually broken up into "cours" that line up with the broadcast seasons. A new cour will often mark the start of a new story arc and bring with it a new set of opening and ending music. In the case of FMA:B, this episide marks the start of the second cour, as the show was broadcast in one run across multiple broadcast seasons.

Older anime tended to not have "seasons" in the traditional sense. So whenever a new OP shows up you've essentially hit a new season. "Spoilers" might exist in OPs but honestly for the vast majority of them you'll have no idea what they were spoiling until that character/event actually happens and then you might go: Oh hey! Scar is a giant fking softy for cute animals, they don't actually talk about it 'seriously' in show... I *think* Riza mentioned witnesses talking about him feeding cats in alleys but that's the closest we get to knowing about that trait of his. Edit: Healing is always a good choice but... teleportation, even if just 'line of sight' I would want teleportation. Comanche, much of the Amestrian military is named after vehicles (primarily military). Edit 2: No, she wasn't afraid... but she is a trained soldier and recognizes a 'threat'. So she chose to neutralize it. Riza Hawkeye (oh look, a scout aircraft model!) is very practical.

Since this seems to be one of the first anime series you've watched for your channel, ill share some of what i have learned from watching anime most of my life. There tends to be a season finale at episode 13 or 26 for some reason. I'm not really sure why this is, and while it's not a hard and fast rule, it is a trend. Each season of an anime tends to have a new opening and closing song, sometimes with new visuals to go along with it. A bloody nose that seems to happen for no reason, is usually a way to show sexual excitement. The history behind why is kinda interesting. A large red nose tends to represent someone who tends to be a regular heavy drinker, or someone who is drunk. That's about all i can think of off the top of my head, mostly because I'm really tired at the moment.

So, it's worth pointing out that sloth, as far as Christian theology goes, isn't actually laziness; it's a refusal to reflect on one's nature and take joy in the world. Being busy is actually slothful if you are just going through the motions. Sloth is insufficient or tepid love. A monk who spends the entire day meditating is not slothful; a wall street exec who runs from one meeting to another never takes anything in is slothful.

A lot of people actually don't know this. When it comes to the seven deadly sins, at least in fiction, sloth can oftentimes be portrayed as just laziness, but, indolence, which is Sloth's title in FMA, also denotes to idleness. Kind of the same way that a lot of people make the mistake that wrath and rage are not necessarily the same thing.

Cowboy Bebop had an unhinged assassin with similar look to Camancho, but taller and far more psychotic...or the Penguin from Batman: The Animated Series 🤷♂. Shao May is the little panda to May Chang. So much more to come. I think you started in a warm place, but veered way off. Always best to not know where things are going because that's part of the magic of discovery when watching a series you haven't seen and enjoy.
