actually I want the 15" coil but I carry Haley up and down the stairs 2 to 3 times a day and that takes a toll on my body. But if I am going to hunt dry sand a lot this summer I will definitely put the 15" back on.

16 grams is a big ring, no wonder it rang up a higher tone. I did not weight it but I would say like 5 grams.

What's a good metal detector to start with

That is a tough question, I would first ask myself what type of hunting am I going to do. Beach, Park, Field, Desert Gold, etc... Then I would ask how often will I detect, then I would research what machines people are having success using in my local area. Now a days there are several good machines, Minelab XTerra is most affordable that can handle the beach, Nokta makes a few good machines. I use the Minelab Equinox. I hope that helps!
