Glad you stuck with Faouzia. I remember the first video you reacted to, you weren't totally sold yet and I mentioned to try other versions/songs. It really amazes me that more people don't know about her.

She's on Singer 2024 from China now. Her first three songs were Crazy (Gnarls Barkley), Set Fire to the Rain (Adele) and just a few hours ago Desert Rose (Sting w/ Cheb Mami). Adam Lambert just joined the competition but IMHO, though he's obviously a good singer, his performance was lackluster compared to Faozia's. At least having him on there will bring recognition to the competition and hopefully, Faouzia. Update: Lambert was in a totally separate challenge and not included in the main competition. Faouzia won the 3rd round. No idea whether Lambert will be back for the next round or whether his was a one time performance.

I love your comments here. You really appreciate the type of artist that she is and her artistry. Looking at this video with you, and for me, it’s the 50th time I’ve probably watched it, you really see more and more how emotive she is visually and vocally. It’s crazy to me that there was at least one comment saying that she’s not emotive and that is just a vocal show off. The person said that her runs didn’t fit the song, but I think that she did just enough as you said, and it fit the song , in terms of the notes used, and she didn’t do it or stay too long in them to mess with the rhythm of the song too much. It was perfect, and it brought some emotional highlighting to those words, to those parts of the song. She knows what she’s doing as a performer and as an artist.

To me, joy of this recording is that it IS more emotional than the first version. I agree she knows what she’s doing and emotion is where she excels.

I liked this audio better here than on the official release. Like you say, vocally, she can wander wherever she wants to go. I’m glad she wandered a bit on this one. I hope she realizes that SHE is the artist. SHE is so musical! We know she is a storyteller. And I can separate the lyrics from real life. But she is wasting her gifts if she really feels as beholden to someone as the lyrics imply.
