Heck yeah, Furi! The game is amazing, and I implore everyone to try it out. Soundtrack. Combat. Even the loose story is engaging, plus the hard mode of this game does greatly change up the boss's patterns and just how much they fire. Overall, it's really enjoyable.

A game where the devs force you to beat a boss one way is not indicative of good combat or game design. It eliminates player choice and makes it boring. I have no idea why so many people gloss over this fact of scripted combat.
@thepikminbrawler17462 жыл бұрын
@@spendsshanks6050 I disagree completely. Bosses that can be brought down in several ways almost always struggle to make each of those ways engaging. Literally the only franchise that makes it work is Monster Hunter because that’s the entire game. A game like Elden Ring gives you the choice to beat a boss with things like melee, magic and spirits. Magic and spirits are totally viable but the gameplay they offer is significantly less engaging than melee since it’s basically just a matter of positioning. Contrast that with Sekiro where the bosses are so much better than Elden Ring because the fights require you to hone your skills at a single style to such a point where you almost enter a flow stat of parrys, attacks and counters. Then there’s games like Shadow of the Colossus and Older Zelda games which have you bring down the boss in a very specific way through a puzzle instead. When Zelda finally switched to allowing you to use whatever you want people complained because it was no longer engaging, you just hit the weapon point in some fashion. Please find me a single good example of a game with several bosses that have lots of approaches that are all engaging.

@@spendsshanks6050 you really aren't forced to beat them one way (apart from the final-phase bullet hell survival phases, which you might have various options for navigating); I prefer to dodge and wait for openings to charge attack, whereas tomkon's style is simple and measured for the sake of making fewer mistakes, without complex moves like charge-dodges which I use to reach my goal of landing decisive hits. deciding between risky offensive play that requires battle knowledge and quick action versus defensive play that tests your focus and ability to navigate delicate attacks is a big part of Furi's fights

Wonderful video that perfectly captures what Furi's combat is all about! Curious how the Onnamusha DLC will change things. Wild that this game's getting new content more than half a decade after it initially came out!

One of my favourite games of all time, it's just so damn good. Also of course you can't mention Furi without the music, one of the best soundtracks out there as well. What a game. The Edge is my favourite boss followed closely by The Hand and after that The Song, which has my favourite song in the game, 'Make this Right' by The Toxic Avenger. "Excellence is not an art, it's pure habit. We are what we repeatedly do."

My personal favorite boss is The Burst, and 90% of the reason why I like it is because Carpenter Brut’s music in that fight is sooo god damn good.
@Ten_Thousand_Locusts Жыл бұрын
@@_Cypher__ definitely up there, but to me loses some points because of the 'gimmicky' start of the fight. When you actually get in close it's easily one of the best, especially when she goes invisible.

@@Ten_Thousand_Locusts That’s fair. The gimmicky part doesn’t bother me too much to lower it.

This is actually also why Sekiro is so fun, you have a sword and that's it. Your moveset is also limited (jump attack that nobody uses, simple combo). While there are a lot of tools you can use there, at it's heart it's closer to Furi than Dark Souls - the simplicity allowed Fromsoft to boil each boss battle down into a very simple, yet refined experience that let you ignore almost all mechanics to focus on a rhythm game-like system. Furi feels really similar in this regard and it's little wonder I also enjoyed it just as much. Excellent video.

i played furi last year and finished sekiro after it, and i have to agree - playing furi prepared me for sekiro much better than dark souls did (which made me bounce off of it the first few times i played it). it's now my favorite fromsoft game!

Love Furi, at one point I was playing it often enough to where I got a sub 1 hour boss rush, definitely going to go back after this video.

One really important thing that is often missed is that depth doesn't come from the number of available actions, it comes from the number of *meaningful* actions. I don't care how many versions of the almost same 7 button combo you have, your game is probably no deeper than a game with a single 3 button combo that presents infinitely more reasons to or not to use it.

i am more of a board-gamer but i never understood the eurogame why would i want to play something for an hour and have no-one remember the rules? when i could explain the rules AND play in the space of half an hour with room for mastery.

I may be weird because I like this game even though I tried games like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta and didn't like them
@OnlineMasterPlayer2 жыл бұрын
Funnily enough your comparison with elden ring at the end is exactly the reason why games like bayonetta, metal gear rising and dmc never stuck with me. If I have too many options and the game doesn't encourage variety through gameplay, instead opting for an arbitrary rating system, it quickly leaves me bored because I find the combos which are most efficient and stick with them. I much prefer games like Furi, Doom: Eternal, etc which give you a very specific set of actions and it's up to you to figure out when those are the most appropriate.
@vincentsanabria2 жыл бұрын
IMO elden dose both pretty well you can be 100 percent technical with your play style or depending on your play style it can be hack and slash, but i agree somewhat
@OnlineMasterPlayer2 жыл бұрын
@@vincentsanabria yeah elden ring definitely has a balance and one thing I didn't mention is that in rpgs, especially action rpgs, it's always fun to try out new builds just to see what cool and unique weapons or spells are out there, even if they turn out to be not that great. Spectacle fighters are very linear by comparison, you struggle to optimize at every step of the way and only perfectionists are able to pull off vastly different playstyles. So the variety of combos and skills doesn't really benefit the average player imo.
