Finally, someone that actually fixed something. The rest of these videos simply replace the entire blower.

I suspected the bearing could be replaced if one was determined and you just confirmed it for me with this video Thanks.

Lennox uses inducers (Fasco made) with the blade molded around an apparently press fit bushing in a replacement price gouging move. There is no way I see to take blade off for motor bearing replacement. I speak of Fasco A209 in this instance but several similar models likely made same way. Original fan lasted 4 years (bearing failure) .. the replacement last 13 years (nearing total bearing failure at this moment). Despite everything other than fan working fine, this gouging on an inducer (cheapest assy ~ $300) plus the apparent low quality of Fasco will defo make me steer clear of Lennox

Yeah, this is what I'm facing right now. My Fasco A197 has no obvious way to remove the fan. I replaced the whole assembly for $250 and was hoping I could salvage the old one by replacing the bearings. The outer bearing that I have access to seems fine, and it doesn't seem likely that I'll be able to access the internal bearing without destroying the plastic fan. Very frustrating anti-repair design.

After a bit more looking and watching YT videos it seems like it might just be possible to carefully hammer the shaft all the way through the unit (and through the rotor and bearings) to pop out the fan-side, without ever removing the fan, which is likely over-molded right onto the shaft anyway. This guy does it the hard way by destroying the fan on a different, but similarly-constructed model, only to realize afterward that this might have worked for him: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ21nomAbL5rjac

When you feel oil and grease on a furnace blower motor, it means it's on it's last leg and will soon burn up, but if it has a bearing problem, it can be fixed.

great video. I'm a bit stuck on the part where the motor mounts to the blower housing. My inducer has 4 nuts that bolt on the motor to the housing and I can't see the bolt heads from the other side so I'm afraid that the bolts will just fall into the void when I remove the nuts to separate the motor from the blower housing. Any idea if those bolts are fixed in place permanently?
@GeneralJackson74 жыл бұрын
They should be attached inside. Loosen a nut most of the way and then check if the bolt slides down or if it feels firmly attached.

Can you do any annual maintenance to this motors like spraying some contact lube similar to Corrosion X???
@GeneralJackson73 жыл бұрын
I don't think a thin spray lube will last long. Bearings are packed in a thick grease. The heat eventually takes its toll on the grease in the bearing. Older blower motors had oil ports that you would fill periodically. They are mostly sealed bearings now.

How do you get the shaft out of the squirrel cage side? My motor has what looks like aluminum bracket mounted on the plastic outer casing and the shaft doesn’t seem to want to let go of the cage? Thanks for your help!
@GeneralJackson75 жыл бұрын
If I understand correctly you want to pull the shaft out of the blower wheel which is in a housing. The blower wheel should have a hex head set screw accessible thru the blower housing exhaust end. The blower wheel should have one blade with an opening for a long reach hex driver. Good to apply some penetrating lube awhile ahead of time to the set screw and shaft. It might be necessary to heat the hub with a torch to get the set screw to release or the shaft to release from the blower hub. I hope this was the info you were after. Good luck

@@tizocvelasco3520 Thank you, but on this inducer motor with open shaft it is easy. There are many inducer motor with plastic impellers, looks like they are glued on shaft, which unfortunately, i could never take impeller out without breaking it :)

I know this is going to sound idiotic, but here goes......How in the heck do you get the main impeller off of the motor shaft? Everything else came apart just fine, but the impeller will not budge. I have already destroyed the impeller, but I actually have two of these fans. One is in my house furnace (That's the one I replaced) and the other one is in my main shop furnace that I am sure will have to be replaced soon. I found the puller and the bearings. Now, I just need to know if anyone has had any success getting the plastic impeller off the motor shaft. I have a completely equipped mechanics shop, a wood shop, and even an auto upholstery shop on my property. I probably own just about every tool conceivable (Yea! I'm OLD). However, I just can't get this impeller to budge.Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
@3SaukTrail3 жыл бұрын
Problem solved. I decided to sacrifice this inducer to educate myself. It turns out that there is actually a metal hub molded into the impeller. The hub is roughly 3/8" long so, drilling is not an option. This metal hub is pressed onto the motor shaft. I now realize that drilling a hole in the end of the plastic impeller hub and using my hydraulic press is the way to go. Now all I have to do is make a very strong support that will hold only the center hub of the impeller blade. I couldn't even beat this thing off with a punch. I had to use my press to get it loose.

What's the part number of the bearing puller you have, how did you get the cage off of your motor

AMPRO T73922 35mm bearing puller. There is a link in the description. This particular inducer did not have a cage enclosure.
