You ladies are lovely. I like that you do things to make you stronger rather than seeking more comfort. I have all the normal furniture in my house but my cats always had more than me. Now that I have only one cat my place looks like a human lives here.

Moved to floor sleeping a month ago when I realized at 67 I was losing flexibility. Got rid of the lining furniture last week except for my kitty's favorite chair ( which I sawed the legs off of). I am loving this floor living but am supremely ungraceful. I can't tell you enough how encouraging it is to see how far you've both come in flexibility. I could sit on the floor forever, ive done that since I was a child.But I think I'm a long way off from my goal of a proper squat. You two encourage me to believe its an attainable goal. Thanks so much!

Wow! That is so good to read! Amazing that you have taken such a big step to becoming more flexible. You'll see. It sneaks up on you. I couldn't sit side-saddle on my own less than two years ago and I can't even remember when it changed. Keep going, you''ll thank yourself! 💓

As I sit here waiting for someone to come help me move my couch and a couple tables, I really understand how furniture free makes moving easier. I could take everything else in my mini van, and I could lift everything else myself. I’m keeping the couch, but will start incorporating more floor time. I will also move to sleeping on the floor eventually. You two are an inspiration!

I nolonger have a couch, they are way too cumbersome to deal with. I replaced it with an electric recliner, a gift from my daughter, because I needed it for surgery recovery. I still sleep in it, so don't need a bed anymore either.

Love it! I do have furniture but my husband and I are minimalists. My mind gets calm with lesser things. I cannot have anything on the walls or nick knacks everywhere. We do move around. I work on the floor or standing up. We do stretch and meditation on the floor. You just have to move! We are 63 and 65.

What a lovely video. It's great to see people closer to my age promoting furniture-free living and showing how much can change in our bodies by using them. We don't have to get more stiff as we age! Sporty, I highly recommend a gentle exploration for you, the first exercise in Taro Iwamoto's video for thoracic mobility called 2 Simple Yoga Ball Exercises. Because the head is supported in that exercise, it really isolates the mid-thoracic region and allows it to release, which is surprisingly helpful for squats as well as generally rising from the floor. May we all continue learning how to live life simply and with joy.

I am 68 and I have lived on the floor for 30 years (except for two years where conditions were such that I couldn't). I love it. My bed is a camping mat that (becuase I am short) I fold down one end and it becomes my sleeping pillow, and then I unfold it up against the wall and it becomes a very comfy back to my "chair" sitting space. I wish there was no carpet because I hate vacuuming, so I wish I could just sweep (but it is not my house).
@MostlyMindful

Wow, 30 years! A real pioneer of the "funriture free" movement! We love things that have more than one use like your camping mattress. When we had the futon we also folded it into a couch type shape during the day. Win!! We just love our carpet! We noticed that when we having camoing mattresses on a wooden or tiled floor they condensate underneath so they need to be turned every day. I think the carpet allows the air to circulate, plus it keeps you warm. But I hear you about the vaccuming, not my best either. 🤪

Hi, you two, thank you for sharing your interesting life style! Your apartment fits you perfect and I understand your reasons. At the age of 69 I try my best to stay flexible and start my morning with stretches and then a little dance with the music of my old fashioned bath radio…some garden work and walking keeps me quite strong, too. I can sit on the floor for a long time, maybe because I camped in a lot of holidays, which I don’t enjoy anymore (too noisy in the night, all this snoring 😴). I think 🤔 I couldn’t live comfortably without furniture, I love a cosy sofa or garden chair, because I read, crochet and knit a lot, play guitar, paint… so I enjoy a comfy chair and needing some stuff for all these very loved hobbies some cupboards, too. I’m probably kind of a cat like Miles 😁… but I agree: space is essential, I’ll think about that! I always need a place for my yoga mat. By the way: I’d never SLEEP on a gym or a yoga mat, it’s ice cold in the night in northern countries! You are to have an isolating camping mat, mine is very flat and if I open the valve, it fills up with air automatically. Love from Germany, Monika❣
@MostlyMindful

Hi Monika...well then you should keep your sofa and/or chairs for your hobbies and just try to spend more time on the floor as well...which it sounds like you're doing anyway. :)

This is such a paradigm shift! Thanks! I will try out being on the ground more often in various positions. I had one living situation where tgere were mattress issues so I had to sleep on floor. It felt surprisingly good.
@MostlyMindful
@MostlyMindful 3 ай бұрын
Excellent! Being on the ground more is a great way of starting to move more as well. I saw a video of a couple that kept all their furniture but spent most of their time on the floor. There are so many iterations of this lifestyle. It can so easily be manipulated to work for you and your environment.

@@MostlyMindfuloh thank you so much! On a similar note, they say squatting low is healthiest way to potty. Kinda like when camping. If someone has a standard height toilet and can't, they can get a squatty potty. I imagine you 2 already know this 🙂
@MostlyMindful
@MostlyMindful 3 ай бұрын
@@flowersafeheart It is uncanny you mention the potty thing. I was doing some research for another viewer about furniture free and having dogs and came across this very thing. We have known about it and tried it on and off. In this article the person had made their own squatty potty out if two paint tins. So resourceful!
@flowersafeheart
@flowersafeheart 3 ай бұрын
@@MostlyMindfuloh great point, if on budget can look at household objects for diy squatty potty ideas. What would be great is one somehow lightweight + portable enough for when using public toilets. And can optionally make some form of squatting potty on floor of one's vehicle though that can be a hassle to come up with temporary window covers.

This is a very cool concept! Good on you for doing you and not conforming to the norm. I am curious if you two know people that have done this with dogs. For example, I would love to work on the floor, but it does leave all my electronics exposed for them to chew on so haven't found a way to make that shift. For context, my work requires an extensive array of electronics.
@MostlyMindful
@MostlyMindful 3 ай бұрын
Thank you! To be honest we haven't had anyone ask about dogs and furniture free living. Our work also requires a lot of electronics, although we don't have a dog. you can only have a good old age if you adopt a ground living lifestyle?! I think that is a bit simplistic. My grandmother lived to 101 and until 93 lived at home growing her own veg and doing all her own shopping and household tasks and only moved in to an old folks home after a minor fall and a relative insisted on it. She was never the same, as everything is done for you including all decisions taken out of your hands but I think at 93-101 she would not have been up for sitting on the floor/having no bed!
@MostlyMindful
@MostlyMindful 3 ай бұрын
I completely agree. If you have been living a certain way your entire life and it works for you then there is nothing wrong with it. Our channel promotes "simple living in the city" where some of us do not have access to growing own veg or much outdoor activity on a regular basis. Living on the ground has really helped us become stronger and healthier overall. It's what works for us and we would never advocate that this is the only way x
