Completely enthralled by the process. I have taken Fimo - plasticlay- and made molds for tinier things & understood the steps but did not know what to use-or what works best for larger parts. Also, something easier/faster too. Because --- if you start looking up and researching resins and fillers, and molding agents - you find a whole bunch of different products. I wanted to see an actual molded part made for repair. THANK you! I have a wonderful century old picture frame that I've saved for doing this project and now I cannot wait to get started. I am an artist and *sort-of* handy, but it sure does help to see the process in action.

We made the pieces and they turned out perfectly with the products you suggested. But the gel stain does not color them. It just wipes back off. Does this need to be applied with a heavy coat, then let it dry and do not wipe it off like we are used to doing with a stain? Does is it work more like a paint? Thank you

What would recommend if you wanted to stain the wood, not paint it? I have to create floral medallions which my contractor chipped on a pair of 1900 doors. Is there anything that accepts the stain evenly? He put Bondo on a part of the wood that came off and I heard Bondo is not the best for a bathroom because of shrinking and contracting. Can I sand off the Bondo and skim coat a layer of wood filler? Thank you for your informative video. Please wear a mask as you know. lol

Gel stain... not a paint, not a stain. It's the love child of paint and stain and works well. Otherwise try ArcaGlass and mix with a dye or bottom sludge of an oil based stain can. play around with samples. Good luck.

can you use a stain on the fiberglass instead of paint?
@suzocomo77075 жыл бұрын
Great video and I love the products you shared. Thank you for the generous information! It looks like the front of the molding you made a mold for and filled with resin ended up facing the back. So you therefore had to recreate the notched look with the sander. It worked because the front of the molding and back of the molding were both flat. But if the existing piece of carved molding on the right had a more rounded front and a flat backside, how could you flip that and make it work? That is my exact predicament. The center drawer on my antique has carved wooden molding flourishes (should be one on each of the lower corners), but the lower left molding is missing. The front of the carved molding is rounded and it lays flat on the back, where it attaches to the drawer. I can take that carved wooden molding and I believe I can reproduce it with the method you showed, but when I flip it like you did the flat side of resin piece would face front and the rounded side would face the drawer. How do I solve that?
@FurnitureRefinishingStudio5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, what you mention will happen and you won't have a good duplicate to mold. In those cases, I either re-shape the molded piece if possible, or just make the missing piece from scratch.
