I like to believe that the Black Dragon was once a regular member of Trip race, just a normal sun gazer, but when he started experimenting on the chaos emerald it started to corupt him and he just let it happen to himself to the point where he was no longer regonize as a member of Trip's race.

I see Trip as a combination of all four of the main Sonic characters from her character traits, which is why she's worthy of being a new fan-favourite character. Trip and Sonic use their spiky anatomy to their advantage when rolled up in a ball, and both have some of the coolest super forms for the classic versions of characters. Like Knuckles, Trip is tricked by Robotnik to assist in his evil deeds before realising who the real heroes are, but she also gets bullied by Fang, sort of similarly to Tails getting bullied by the other foxes in Emerald Hill in the Origins cutscene for Sonic 2. Trip and Amy share a compassion for nature and the critters as shown in the animated cutscenes.

While The Eggman and Fang bossfights are tough and can be frustrating due to a lack of midway checkpoint, the true final boss is just atrocious. Makes te earlier end bosses feel like walk in the park.

I guess you could say that Trip...came out of her shell? I'll see myself out... But! Before I go, I have my own theory. In the JP manual for Sonic 3, Knuckles oddly mistakes the Death Egg for a dragon egg: "Knuckle walks out of the altar, stunned. Then, as he gazed helplessly into the distance, he noticed something eerie appearing around the lake. Knuckle felt a shiver run down his spine when he saw the huge round egg-like object. "That big egg is the legendary dragon's..." The egg must be the one that brings misfortune to the island, as depicted in the legend on the altar of the Chaos Emeralds." Many believe that this concept was scrapped or used for Chaos' backstory in the Sonic Adventure but what if the dragon in Sonic Superstars is the true continuation of this odd detail? Superstars has been known bring back quite a few sacrapped concepts and ideas from previous games (Rabbit Skin, Golden Capital, ect). A coincidence perhaps?

@calvinjohnson2985 Not crazy at all! The Chaos Emerald Legend for Sonic Adventure talks about other nations in the time of the Echidna tribe. About the tribe it states: "...the Knuckles clan was but one of several nations." and "...the Knuckles clan transformed into a powerful warring force. The neighboring countries are quickly suppressed." and lastly, "Pachacamac, not satisfied with merely supressing neighboring countries, tries to steal the Emeralds to further expand the clan's power." There are theories that the Babylonians were one of those nations due to Angel Island once being a part of a continent, and Knuckles being able to read their text in Riders. Trip's ancestors seem to have had a connection to the emeralds like both of those ancient civilizations, so you are definitely on to something...

I've always liked the theory that the Babylonians are connected to the classics since Sonic 1&2 both have bird/owl architecture. There are the totems in Green Hill, the glyphs in Labyrinth, and even the arrow shooting statues in Aquatic Ruins. Great lore potential to capitalize on there.

I like the idea, but I have a slightly different interpretation of the evil dragon. You see, as far as structure is concerned, the dragon and trip are quite similar in physiognomy, with the same layer of scales and spikes on the head (the differences lie in the eyes and legs). What if this evil entity was part of the clan in its beginnings? Maybe that's why the snake comes out. Since the beginning of the clan, this entity that managed to dominate the negative energy of the emeralds had to be sealed by those heroes who, due to lack of experience, each used the skill they knew how to use. Something curious about trip is that she obtained her transformation from rage and helplessness, but she did not occupy the negative energy, since she had a sense of duty, friendly animals and already a friend who showed her empathy

I like that idea :D And I love that it's all thanks to Amy, Trip can finally break out of her shell! Trip craved friends, to not be alone anymore. That's why she endured all the bullying, because she was afraid she might lose them if she speaks up, but then comes Amy, comforts her, shows her compassion, even gifts HER something and not the other way around. So, naturally she stands in Fang's way, when he tries to fight Amy and the others!

I love this analysis of trip and sonic superstars but there's two problems for one and this ones a nitpick heck it might not come as a criticism I kind of sad out that out didn't mention the chaos emeralds being use to fight the black dragon ( to clarify I mean in the Mural with the trip predecessor's their using the chaos emeralds abilities to fight the black dragon) and number 2 you might not consider a problem but I do so I'm going to say it anyway your interpretation of things, say that in the beginning of time the civilization have been fighting the dragon since the beginning of time but there's a problem how did sonic frontier's ancients get the chaos emeralds? ( let me explain) basically since the beginning of time this trip civilization has been fighting the black dragon right but this dragon and civilization are on sonic planet so this implied that the emeralds are on sonic planet but with frontiers ancients they come from the ancients home planet before it got destroyed the question here is how did the emeralds get with frontiers ancients sorry for messing typing I first language is not English I can try clearing things up if you want

I think since this is a classic game, to convey the story the game focuses more on design, animation, and action as opposed to exposition and dialogue.

The problem is it barely even does that. In S3&K and Mania you can clearly tell what the story is through the cutscenes but Superstars not really. It isn't really clear what Fang and Eggman really try to accomplish here. Those big animals are supposedly important to the lore but how exactly??? Do they free the dragon? Do they keep him in? Did Eggman turning back time free the dragon? Where the hell did the egg to seal the dragon even come from? The evil Dragon is foreshadowed in the Trio of Danger yes but the reason he just shows up out of nowhere with no explenation and he might as well not even been there since Eggman and Fang are gone by that point anyways. That true final boss feels like a last minute addition ngl
