I think the worst part is there isn't even unlockable skins in these games even if both Frontiers and more so Superstars would be perfect with unlockable skins. Like no one cares about Battle Mode in Superstars so having purchasable skins using the coins would make them feel way less pointless.

This is 2024. You'll be lucky to get any pre-order skins that you missed in a future dlc.

Splatoon 2 was also quite infamous with exclusive gear. The spy (Sennyu) gear, Emperor gear, Koshien gear and Mecha gear you had to redeem codes from japanese magazines to get, and they would only work with the Japanese version of the game. You couldn't even order the gear off other players, and on top of that. The names of this exclusive Japanese gear had English translated names if you happened to run into players using it.

It's like Sega actually TRIED to be as dickish as possible with this game: -They didn't reveal the game had Denuvo on PC until the day of release (despite accepting preorders), and even gave Steam themselves a Denuvo free build for Steam Deck testing. -It had forced Epic Games integration, which was removed later but the damage was already done. -All the DLC shenanigans that you covered. -Charging $60 for what should have been a $30 or less game.

Stupid choices ruined this game. With this game's level design, music, bosses, and DLC, Sega literally threw shit at a wall until something stuck. The only problem is...all of that shit was drenched in oil.

I wish I had known when this was available. Superstars looks fine, but it really needs something to make it stand out more imo. Modders love doing cel-shading for Sonic games. Nintendo is utilizing it in some of their games. It's just weird how Sega doesn't do this more often for Sonic games. Sega started the trend of cel-shading in video games. I'll definitely have to check out the mod.

I play on switch and I’m kinda pissed that if you have any console copy of the game you need to go to MOTHER FRIGGIN KROGER just for a slightly different blue rat. I think I would be WAY cooler to get the skins via getting issues of the comics.

I do wish Superstars did have more cosmetic dlc and not just finish off there. Like having Knuckles with his cowboy hat would’ve been a nice touch or tails with a pilot outfit would also had been sick

Thanks for bringing up the comic skins issue I am luckily one of the people that owns it because it gives sonic a better shade of blue. I also agree that should have been the original artstyle and remove that stupid O mouth sonic standing pose and give him a smirk.

I Preordered Superstars on Steam, and despite me living in the US, I somehow have this DLC despite me not going through the crap you need to unlock it. I'm not sure why, but I won’t question it.

I do have the comic book skins. Though i didn’t get them through Kroger and I’m not too sure about whether it was pre-order. When i was looking for a physical edition of sonic superstars. There was a £40 one (I’m British) on amazon, this was already a deal as it was £20 off from the normal edition and it stated that came with the comic book style skins. When it arrived, the legends were true. I had the skins, though, it also came with the lego Eggman skin. Meaning that it could have been a pre-order bonus..?

Funny story. When the IHOP Amy skin released, I was so pissed because IHOP is only in the USA, meanwhile I live on the other side of the world and only recently I learned that they released the IHOP Amy skin to anyone that didn't have it and man was I HAPPY! Ive managed too get the Cel Shaded Skins for the Switch version of Superstars before release and im not gonna lie, its easily the best Skin for the game and the main skin i use, it sucks it was a convoluted way too get it.

I would like to say four things, and God Bless you for this video😇✝️: 1. It makes sense that the DLC plan was as janky as the game itself 2. I just think classic and modern Sonic should switch over to the comic book cell shaded style: it would work so well, and I have seen fan animations on YT that prove it 3. I find the lack of Trip skins criminally offensive, considering she was probably the best part of the game in my opinion: I know people complain about her level design, but if you have access to super forms, you can negate that entire Factor 4. Sega and Sonic team need to give the other characters back their super forms

I honestly hate when games-not just Sonic-do this. I still don't have Superstars, so knowing I'll never be able to get most of these skins without mods is just the worst. I know skins aren't the most important thing in the world, but locking players who are late to the party out of getting them is just ridiculous. At least the iHop skin was made available after the collab ended, but still. They should make all skins available on all platforms at some point.

It was 27 fateful minutes. The game released at like 4am in my timezone. I did set an alarm, but I was also quite unwell that night and hit the snooze button for 45 minutes. 16 minutes too long... nobody saw the comic book skins coming, and by the time most people noticed they were gone.

It's Crash Bandicoot and Sonic and Sega games all over again. So many skins and characters being exclusive to certain consoles is kind of a pain and it's been going on a far back as the GameCube era. Although cool and probably to cross promote certain IPs, it would've been nice to have all content put into the game as unlockables for all consoles. This includes Sonic Superstars. That's a lot of DLC content packed in here.
