Yeah and there’s a few things off about North as well yes he was cringe but it also sounds like he did not know how to play the game fighter with no weapon proficiencies at all that’s not a thing He rolled a 10 total =low dex He fails to talk to anyone= low cha He does no damage with = low str He gets one shot every his hit = Low con This all adds up to a new player he doesn’t know the rules or how to make a character If the DM wasn’t going to kick him out The least you can do is to help make the character functional Everything he Tried To do in the game had a high chance of failure which indirectly helped facilitate the Lonewolf crap because Because if you fail every time I try to help what’s the point of joining the party I don’t know the story is weird like the guy was a cringe Edge Lord with the character he wanted to make But he never really did anything to the party until the very end and only because that was sessions of Abuse So I’m calling it a DM‘s fault In fellow players fault we’re going along with it Furry Edge lord gets a complete pass if he is new and if he’s a veteran player he really should know better by now but still not unpardonable. Considering that the DM established the Hybrids were man-made and then a war happened. It might be a safe assumption that the people who made the Hybrids tried to prioritize animal traits that could work in a practical combat setting. So being able to slink unseen and drain blood (like a Chupacabra would hypothetically be able to do) is more practical than a blue wolf with a rainbow tail.

The kid "north" in this story likely didn't have a good grasp in how to even play the game, and the dm didn't even help him get better at the mechanics of it. He let him throw stuff in places on his sheet that would not help him, then waited to see the constant results. A better person and/or group would have at least tried to explain certain things about the game. Not saying force him into a decision on how to build his character but at least make him aware of the cause and effects mechanically. Then from there constructively try to find solutions to any of the problems when they crop up. And if they are just two very different playing styles. Then break off from North and maybe even help him find a group he clicks with better.

Okay, I'm writing all this as I listen, but think I can safely state that neither the group nor the new player were in the right here. . For the new player: There's nothing wrong with fursona inclusion if a setting can accommodate it, but it pays to learn how the rest of the group rolls and work with their play style, rather than against it. If it's a tight-knit group, don't go lone wolf without a plan to regroup quickly if the situation turns dire. Mounts in the wilderness and a signal whistle for each party member work well. And make sure that if you host a session that you make the rest of the group feel welcome. Be there when they arrive, designate a clean area to work with, and if you can't de-odor your room or find a place for all your X-rated material, lock the damn thing down or maybe even don't host in the first place. Being a furry does not automatically mean you get to force your interests on anyone else, not even other furries. . For the group: It's clear that this individual needed a way to feel less alienated at the school. He obviously made a few missteps, but that could have easily been the perfect setup for a redemption story in the game's first few sessions - use role-play to teach him that money can't buy you friendship, lone wolves or "lancers" as they're known in media tropes tend to get beat down a lot more, and that there's a time and place for every person to shine. Beating up on the new kid hurts more than it helps, and for all you know you were attacking an OC of theirs that they had become very invested in. And separating a new player from the group every time they died, which the DM allowed to happen constantly, cutting them off entirely from the action that unfolded - that destroyed all chance of them seeing how the party operated in the face of adversity. So, can you really be surprised if he continued being the Vegeta of the group by smack-talking the heroic sacrifice that he missed? . Oh, bloody hell. After hearing about North dropping out, the table-flip and everything that followed, it's clear that this was basically the worst route this roleplaying group could have taken. Again, I'm reminded of a Vegeta-like attitude from North, but take that scenario from the end of the Cell saga where Vegeta gives Gohan the opening he needs, and rewrite it so that Vegeta takes full credit for the kill, shit-talks Goku and the group uses the dragon balls to banish Vegeta to another dimension instead of reviving all the people who died to Cell. North was denied every chance he needed to grow as a character both in-game and IRL. . I know this sounds cliche and I'm getting the phrase from one of J K Rowling's books of all places, but this group and the player were both repeatedly presented with the choice between what was right and what was easy, and they chose poorly every time. I hope they all eventually become better people in the future.

Yeah. As much of a problem North's behaviour was it seemed like he needed help and the way people treated him just worsened his problems when it could've paved the way for him to start sorting himself out. Stuff like that generally doesn't happen in a vacuum and if the only people taking issue with him were bullies then he was never actually going to learn.

As someone who read the original story... where the DM says he enjoys "taking the piss out of newbies", that "lag-bomb" is a great tactic to use to teach lessons, how griefing is funny as hell (to see the random people affected pointing fingers) so they can tell an admin that the one to blame was "that tumor" so it gets banned from something he paid in advance... North was pretty much looking for a place where his fursona could not only be accepted but crucial in the world around him. Sure self-centered as hell but that was probably the only reason he even tried to play d&d with them. Write the story he wanted in a fictional world, where other people would agree and support it. Sure, that is not a collective story and was not going to work but understanding that it was a call for help would have been more important as it was obvious that he wasn't what you would say, mentally stable. I will be clear here: I don't believe the story is real because what happens to "North" afterward pretty much would contradict someone uploading the post and expecting it to be seen in a good light. If you know someone is having mental issues and have something to do with their later self-destruction (and they did) I doubt you would proudly say "and his father even recommended me for college" like North and his family are a bunch of idiots and he is the hero in the tale. Sigh.

I see the same problem has rolled around again. No Session zero and no true communication. No one pulled him to the side and tried to tell that the other players are having issues with his play style. And further help him learn to amend these things. As for the session zero part, if he joined after the true session zero, then there still needs to be gone through again with the new player and have him add what he is okay and not okay with. If he is joining your group then he also gets rights in these regards. Honestly, after the 1st session where the rest of the group had issues with him, they should have talked to him and hashed out creative ways to go about it that wouldn't tick the players off. I'd like to say the player was terrible, but actually, the way it was handled was the worst part. This reminds me of a guy I knew during high school, We tried to hard to be super cool and center of attention and that was actually mostly due to his ADHD, and no one tried to make him feel welcome at the table. Sure the stuff he did warrant the response in-game. But no one reached out after a session and eventually, he stopped showing up. This was back during 3rd edition and gatekeeping was commonplace, and knowing about things that I know about now in my adult life I would have tried to speak to him about it, but I was barely knowing what I was doing in dnd back then myself and just stayed out of it entirely.

North just did not understand the lore of the world and seemed to be oblivious to everything going on with the lore of the world. It’s one thing staying committed to your choice and justifying your actions but this guy… Arrogant (in and out of game), dissed one of the players on their departure, and given every chance to change- he took none of the good and didn’t shift in any way from his bad habits. North was advised to adapt to the world he was investing in. At any point, he could have told the DM or the other players “I think I want to make a new character. This one doesn’t seem to work.” Instead, he kept going with his own story, believing himself to be the leader. In general? They knew each other online that AllThingDND doesn’t cover because it is off topic to D&D. And North is a thief, according to OP. One small point I realized in retrospect- these are school kids, at least high school from what I gather. Being an outlier myself, school cliques are not known to be rational and from the time period (I’m presuming around the emerging Windows 98 era), they did not have the resources for assessing mental conditions, tabletop etiquette or even just the foresight of stories like this. They were the pioneers- they were also assholes. Welcome to 4chan/tg. Don’t get me wrong, I want to have sympathy for North. Moreover, I honestly wish North had a better life. But a tabletop gaming group are not trained therapists. This group being a prime example of that and the mindset that kids are going to know how to react to other like grown adults would is foolishness. To assume intent is your own personal bias on display. I’m not here to change your mind on the group’s perspectives on the guy I’m giving my perspective on the matter. North is not blameless. And if you take OP’s word that North just came in on the group, touting that he was the main character; you may also take that some of the claims he made about North had a hint of truth. You can be envious of a person but never want their life. I don’t get that feeling here that they bullied him for no reason, I suspect they reacted to North’s EGO with the situation. Everything about this story was disgusting. A cringy outcast finds a group of "friends" he thinks he can share his passion with. Instead they singled him out for abuse before he even pulled out a character sheet. The DM was super stoked to let the other players bend the whole magic system to do whatever they wanted, but North having dyed fur? * -10 penalty! * (the DM's Guide itself says that -4 is extreme and should be used sparingly). As an Aspie, I was bullied a lot growing up. And I can say from experience that bullying brings out the worst in people. Even the punch at the end was fully deserved, though it hit the wrong person (deserved, but not excused. I'd have banned the whole group). Maybe North would have been a problem player regardless. The DM was bad, yes, you should never search to punish players. Unless they expressly ask for it by ignoring all the warnings given to them, there is no actually need for a dm to go out of their way for it. "You stare down the ominously quiet hallway, slighting raised bricks and several gaps cracks and holes in the walls, you get an itching feeling that something just isnt right here. What do you do?" followed up by the player just saying "imma do a back-flip somersault down the hallway!".... Dead, pc is dead, character is dead, if the player doesnt have the self of mind to pay attention to a clear warning from the dm about something needing to be taken with a precaution, they get zero right to complain when their character dies.

As far as I can tell, the only one in the wrong is North. The DM had told him no, but he continued to insist, and not only that, literally continued to be a problem. Not helping in fights, trying to take all the credit. He literally described the character as a Mary Sue, without using the name. As far as I can tell, they did what they had to. I bet the character was Chaotic Neutral, too

Im kinda curious as to what system was being used in this story. the entire part about spacing into duel wielding with every weapon doesn't sound like something from 5E. If anyone could help me out here it'd be appreciated. Its probably a 3.5E thing but id just like to know.

Bullied furry tries to make friends and gets shit on by more bullies who don’t explain or teach him to play the game. Don’t get me wrong, furries can be cringe. But I have a friend whose like Op and another like “North” but she got out of it after high school. Both are good friends.

Ironically, I can see how a blue furred beastfolk could be stealthy. Their people were made to hunt/stealth/combat during the night. You know, ranger style.

Yo, folks. This is only HALF the story. Ther is actually sort of a continuuation on this train wreck. It didn't get featured most likely because it's more about raw, undiluted cringe than playing DnD.... Short, TL;DR version North rips off OP's stuff for cringey SecondLife shit, GM and others find out and wreck his plagarized shit and get him banned from SecondLife. There is also an epilogue that implies North may have died after trying to force himself on an actual wolf....

Let's give the furry dm a credit for making sense because the blue wolf's fur would reflect the light and it would stand out of its surroundings because it wouldn't be great in stealth missions because of camouflage.

The whole party and the GM are being assholes. North may be a rich spoiled brat, but from what I hear, he is a lone guy with tons of insecurities, that he was trying to compensate through the game (let's admit it, we all do that). But, for crying out loud, brining in a completely inexperienced person into a game with more experienced players and make little to no effort to help the newbie to adjust to what the game really is is purely stupid. Either the game would be ruined for other players, or, as in this case, the newbie would be turned into a laughing stock. It is a good idea to do some introductory sessions for a newbie to show, how the game mechanic and the world work. Also, a great idea for a GM to point out how bad the newbie is. Yeah, lets make it even worse for the guy. Never play with toxic players or GMs, guys.

And the whole thing about OP throwing a huge fit about North's character being unrealistic because of the fur color, meanwhile DM's character is a fucking demon/dragon hybrid with a fucking musical gimmick to boot. The biggest takeaway is that I hope North got some therapy or fixed his life, in the end. OP and his friends were fucking horrible

Well, i can't really side with anybody in this story. They all did pretty much everything wrong. They shouldn't have let the guy force his way into their games but once he was there they shouldn't have just decided to make him the group punching bag. If the guy really comes from a rich family, he probably should have just bribed everyone into liking him and letting his character do whatever he wanted. Kind of like buying dlc, "Here's 200 bucks for each of you, now let me be the party leader with maxed out stats". You'd be surprised how far cash can go. The guy also shouldn't have dropped out of school. No matter how much money his family had, that's always a dumb move.

3 types of furries based on experience The sexual furry: that guy who won’t stop talking about his furry waifu and how he talks about his sexual preferences on animals. The one who is loves anime. The RP furry: the guy who wears wolf ears, animal tails and sometimes goes the full mile with a Fur suit. The cringed one and sometimes the toxic ones The general furry: the guy who just likes the concept of walking talking bipedal animals, he is the most chill of the 3.

you forgot a 4th type: the ashamed furry that tries to hide the fact they like talking animals (btw, they don't have to walk on two legs: one's like what you see in the lion king or bambi are called "ferals"). this DM is clearly one of those and he's a little bitch for it.

This reminds me of this one toxic scalie that joined my dnd west march server (my friend owned it.) We were a pretty open group all things considered, some people played as literal cats, kenkus, lizardfolk, taxabi/leonin and some others even a literal cat girl before using a simic hybrid variant race the server owner made to better work in the setting. But this dude was TOXIC, he joined the server and we thought he was pretty cool/decent all things considered due to him being a RPer. During the time when the dude was getting his character approved he saw my friends character sheet (he was playing a female barbarian) and literally said that this in regard to my friends ac "But who knows? Some GMs might let you make a really skimpy light armor from dragon hide that has high AC." even though its already like 19. Then after that he posted his backstory and I kid you not its literally looks like a cropped pic of a nude scalie from the waste up and wouldnt been surprised if it originally showed everything. We a slight issue with the guy in regards he kept trying to give dragonborn feathers as well and wouldnt stop arguing reptiles have feathers. Anyway going back to the topic the dude after getting access to the NSFW channels on the server and finally approved kept trying to push the boundaries when it came to my friends barbarian. One time he was rping in the SFW hotspring and practically tried to force himself onto her there. And after that he kept harassing my friend in the nsfw channels trying to get smut going on between their characters even when he got told no till he finally left. but overall he kept trying to make smut and forcing himself onto people in the sfw side of the server and kept pinging people in the nsfw side

This is what happens when you get a terrible person, and then throw them together with other people who are also terrible and dont know how to deal with other people properly, sounds like everyone in the group was an insensitive prick that didnt know how to act as a human being.

Im a DM and any time I have a player come to me with a complaint I take it up with the person that is the ire of the complaint. It generally fixes the issue in most cases and if not I ask them to leave.......its not rude to ask someone to leave that does not fit in the group. You just have to be......diplomatic about it.

OP should have just told him from the beginning he didn't want to play with him in his group. The desire to spend several sessions and long periods of time screwing with North was excessive and not needed. If you have the stones to bully your player for weeks for your amusment, you should have the stones to flat out tell him he can't join the group. Instead you wanted to pummel him first. North may be a cringy annoying furry weeb, but OP is a poor DM and he and his friends are poor excuses for people in this story and should be ashamed. Tldr; they're all shite

The store owner was the only innocent person in the story. North is a spoiled rich kid and an idiot. He created a poor character and did not attempt to redeem himself, why his parents let him get away with it is unknown. I'll admit I made mistakes when I was first playing Dnd, but still none were anything that this party did. My Enfield (of folk with wings based on a creature in Celtic mythology) character accidentally blew up the continent I was on with fire-beads, my human character turned himself into a tawny were-tiger to better help the party and my gargoyle character skewered an evil angel in the plums with her sword while airborne. Like I said, looking back on it, I made mistakes but had fun playing with my brother and my sister-in-law.
