Not only does it look great but you will be able to then go on and produce photo-realistic renders and animations. This is an intermediate level tutorial and in future videos I plan to cover motion and animation also at an intermediate level.
This Fusion 360 appearance tutorial also introduces you to Physical Material which is often confused with Appearances but they serve very different purposes.
If you haven't done the 16 Basic Tutorials you should start at the beginning:- Beginners Tutorial #1 of 16 • Learn Fusion 360 in a ...

These tutorials are very helpful for the beginners who want to catch up major concepts of 360 design in a very short time. Now I can start designing my projects and drawing some 3d printing parts. Thank you.

Absolutely loving these, Arnold! I've already designed and printed a component to repair and improve sooo many things at home now (missus' grabby staff is all healed up now), so thank you so much for these brilliant tutorials! Not only are we learning the technical steps, but a lot of the mindset/thought processes as well. In regards to speed - I found myself having to turn the playback down to 0.5 here a few times in order to keep up with you, but that's just me. Sidenote - you sound magnificently out of it at those speeds ^_^

Thanks for the tutorials. I have manual engineering background (but no cad or cnc experience) and found your videos very helpful, looking forward to more content. You have me at a point where I can start drawing basic components and assemblies of actual things I'd like to make. I would love to see a basic overview of the challenges and features to get designs from 'computer world' to real world component manufacturing. How to apply tolerances to the moving parts and joints is something I'd like to see. Thanks Again, Great channel!

Wow Joey Joe Joe! That's why I get up in the morning. Thanks for the feedback and the very practical pointer. I bought my first 3D printer and I have the kit next to me here to be assembled. I'll be starting soon. Now your concern with tolerances and fits is an educated concern which I agree with, its a big and complex topic but I hope to communicate the value of it to all my younger viewers.

Hello Arnold, Merry Christmas! I signed up yesterday after watching your 16 parts programs and I am very enthusiastic . Long time ago I did some autocad ( just by looking and doing ) and I have been using Sketchup the last 10 years or so. It gave me enough possibilities to do what I wanted. ( My enterprise in The Netherlands at that time was Tom vos Interiortechnics ) Now I am 65 living in France and I took up 3d printing. Now that is something new for me . I could use Sketchup to produce STL files but I noticed that Fusion 360 offers a LOT more possibilities. So now I am going to devour all tutorials from you. Why? because I have noticed that teaching is your real life drive! It shows! the tempo and your style of bit by bit adding skills is wonderful ! I certainly will continue. I tried other persons tutorial series also, but they went over my head, because it contained too much ( interesting) info in a too small period of time. I wanted but could not absorb all of this. So please continue and I will follow you on this. PS I want to tell you that the sound in the 16 episodes from 2 year ago is splendid, but with your newer installation it sounds like your mic is muffled with a blanket . It makes me putting in more effort to hear you explaining so, less then into drawing. Please could you see if an adjustment is possible? Many thanks and best wishes for 2021

And a merry Christmas to you too Tom! I think we must be kindred spirits. Not only because I enjoyed working on Sketchup myself in building design for some years and went to Fusion for its capabilities and winning price (free). I will be paying attention to learning how to improve the audio in my videos, I know how important that is, I'll have to concentrate. Yesterday I made my very first print on an Ender 3 and I am quite excited about some ideas for content around powder metallurgy for 2021.

First of all, thank you Arnold, I speed ran your tutorials playlists today and it was the best videos on Fusion 360 I found on YT. I've had some experience with Solidworks in the past and it feels like Fusion 360 has a much more modern and streamlined approach. As most of the stuff I do involves 3D printing I would like to ask two questions: 1- When you mention PLA, how do I relate this data to the infill in the 3D printer? Maybe find the center of mass from gcode? 2- Do you plan on making any instructions regarding versioning control across multiple files? i.e. if I change a component, how do I keep track of the assemblies that were made with each version of the component? In 3d printing there is a lot of back and forth between printing, seeing if it fits, changing the design and printing it again, some version control seems pretty neat, but this version control feature of Fusion 360 is still a mystery to me.

Good to have you here Lucas, I'm afraid I'm a beginner with 3D printing so I'm just taking a stab at Q1. If the PLA being used for the support material is coming off the same spool then the properties are the same, its only the geometry that varies. Don't you discard all that support stuff anyway? When it comes to assembly I'm planning to study Angus' video at Makers Muse about Designing for Assembly. He's got the tolerances sussed. For Q2, yes I do plan to make videos on version control since Fusion 360 is selling itself as a simplified vault for team asset management via that cloud feature. It will be part of a series of DIY build projects but it could be some time yet before I get to them, there are a few things to do first. In the meantime the Autodesk guys are covering this as they add new functionality. Here's one kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZqkm3uYe5aHeNE This is their channel, try searching 'version' kzbin.infosearch?query=version

Arnold, @ 5:57 ish you applied color to the whole component and a dialogue box pops up and asks and you remove from mating surfaces? I don't get the pop up box?? What happened?
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360

Geoff let me check a couple of details first, you might have noticed that I activated the drive wheel and activated it prior to opening the Appearance dialog with the 'a' key. I'll presume you did that. Also please bear with me while I check this with you; did you see that the words "Apply To" have a little triangle nearby. Click on that little arrow to reveal the radio buttons for 'Bodies Components' or 'Faces'. Please check these and come back to me Geoff.

Arnold, I had the 'Applied To' open. I went to change the appearance on the part and got the pop up this time. I slowed the video way down (1/4 speed) and saw what you did. After you clicked the 'Remove" in the pop up, you switched to 'Faces' and touched-up the rubbing faces. Thanks for the help.

Ive never hated any company in my entire life more than Autodesk. It has been a complete waste of my time. I spend hours and hours and hours fighting the worst software ever developed in History. Bug filled like no other. Issues that have existed since 2014 make the entire experience frustrating and and complete waste. That I spend my entire weekend working on a drawing then all of a sudden out of nowhere Im getting the irritating annoying error about the default material cant be deleted because it is assigned to something and none of the menu options delete ot or unassign it. . Ive checked every piece of my model a hundred times and nothing is set to ABS plastic of all things. I read the forums for hour on hour trying to get rid if this stinking silly pathetic error yet none of the "tricks" to get around the broken software work. Im stuck looking at a giant red error that pops up covering my screen. What a complete disaster. Makes me want to uninstall Fusion 360 and the wasted hundreds and hundreds of hours on this sw. Outrageous. Something so pathetic and they punish their users forever. Addendum: I got so mad I finally just shut off the PC. When I restarted it the error has magically went away. You would have thunk restarting the sw 10 times would have fixed it without a hard reboot. So frustrating.
