There is a difference between part and assembly drawings. There are many other conventions and traditions that have grown up with the topic during its one hundred year history but this is a good place to begin. The paperless office is not here yet and neither is the paperless design office. If you have CNC equipment you can sometimes bypass the printer but you'll need to print off paper drawings if you work with other people and if you're anything like me its good to have a paper plan in your hand when you go out to the garage to make something. We'll make a part drawing here, assembly drawings will have to wait for another video.

Well done! You're a highly motivated learner Joseph, can you tell us a little about your sculpting and forms? Keep it general if you like, are you in a hobby like RC cars or planes? Do you have a plan for business?

Just finished the 16 beginner tutorials and was having difficulty figuring out the "automatic" 2-drawing on my own. Another perfectly concise, step-by-step video explaining exactly what I needed. Thank you Arnold!

Do you know why upon importing a model to fusion 360 that it is very large and should not be. Ideas?@@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360

Thanks Joseph, I remember 1995 when I went to an open day at a local university. I couldn't get over the classrooms filled with computers, and then they showed me the first Netscape web browser. Now it seems everything was either before or after that.

Another amazing Video Arnold. Thank you sir I didn't even know what they were called or how you got those drawings to print out like that. That's interesting very interesting I love that. Like I said I am completely green to all of this.

Yes we're quite a way off from a paperless design office. 2D drawings will be very important for some time to come.

This video gives you enough to do the most simple drawings. it's a big topic and there is so much more to cover. The really good news is that they are just now building out this part of Fusion, it was a bit half baked up until a year ago. Now it's getting to the point where it's worth learning and using.

Quick question, is there a way for us to show the unit of measurements used? I tried via the preference -- general - drawing - show dimension units, but i doesnt show.

I am an ancient mechanical engineer trying to get a grasp of Fusion 360 and I thank you for your informative and easy to understand videos. Regarding your explanation in this video of the view conventions ISO versus ANSI for 2D drawings I think you have mixed it up. To my knowledge the symbol shown in your title block is for the ANSI Third Angle orthographic projection. Best Regards, Bjoern Haga

Hi just watched your video, thanks a lot really helpful. Just one thing, you mention that you are using 3rd Angle projection. But I think that you are actually showing 1st Angle projection, with the 1st Angle projection symbol.
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 3 жыл бұрын
My heart skipped a beat there Michael, and yes I did mess up the symbol although not in the way you suggested. I've got the two 'views' around the wrong way, but as they are, they still 'read' as 3rd angle. If they were indicating 1st angle, the little side view of the truncated cone would be mirrored left to right so that the right hand side view is on the left and vice versa. In the symbol here, the left hand side view is positioned to the left of the front view. My text books which are drawn to Australian Standards (the ISO system) are the same except the two little views which make up the symbol are the other way round with a front and right hand side view instead of a front and left hand side view as I have it.

Can you do a video for sheet metal as a lot of sheet metal work these days are cut with a laser or water jet cutter. Fusion does have a sheet metal facility showing flanges bends etc. How would you do a rolled bead line used for rolled edges or for reenforcing a part etc, how to form holes and cuts and extrude thickness. Plus put it in dxf and a drawing.

Thanks for the pointer Chris, all I can say is that I'll add it to my 'to do' list. I really haven't done any sheet metal work in my life but Kevin Kennedy has done some basic tutorials here kzbin.info/www/bejne/hInYaamMjtudqMk

"Ancient traditions and conventions"... but that is what & the way I was taught!!! Does that make me Ancient and Conventional?? :-) A real question for you...I am having trouble bringing in .STL files from 'Thingiverse'. They come in something like 10 times bigger than they should, what am I doing wrong? Your videos are outstanding as I am feeling somewhat 'competent'. I'm sure I would enjoy your engineering courses. You are a great instructor. Thanks much
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 2 жыл бұрын
That makes you wise and competent Geoff. STLs do behave like that for a variety of reasons. The best way to cope with these troubles is to take charge by way of scaling the parts. I haven't published on the Scale tool yet but Tyler Beck has, and you should bookmark his channel too. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2iTaJyHqJaFjsk

It was my understanding that ISO was 1st angle projection and USA was 3rd. In 1st angle, LHS is drawn on right etc. Good chance I'm wrong 😂
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360
@ArnoldRowntreeTeachesFusion360 2 жыл бұрын
I think you're right VA about how the system works, the problem here is that I drew the 3rd angle symbol backwards even though the backwardly drawn symbol still works according to the 3rd angle system. - anyway its in my list of things to correct.
