how did you set the reference points where you measure to set the various parts?

I’m trying to follow but you are going so fast I spend most of my time backing up. If this is a Fusion 360 tutorial it must be for an experienced user, not someone just starting out. I’m getting through it but it is very challenging.

I use Eagle PCB for work (I'm an EE) and decided to make an enclosure for one of my new boards. We also have a makerbot 3 (very nice machine!) that the MEs use for prototyping. I could make one of them do it, but I'd like to learn how to use F360 and take on these smaller projects myself. This is a great intro into it! Since Eagle and F360 are now apart of the same suite, I can just generate a model of the board so I can skip the step of modeling the reference geometry. I'm shocked you don't have a bigger audience. Outstanding work!

This is pretty important information IMHO. If you are bold, you can take a photo and import it and there is a tool to scale the photo automatically, then build on top of the photo. Just be aware of perspective distortion and scale everything off of the same "depth plane" in the photo.

This short series has everything I needed to get started. Excellent! Thanks.

I'm trying to follow this but when I create a rectangle it remains movable etc as it did with yours. You then set the dimensions and sort of lock them in but I've just spent an hour trying to actually do that as you haven't explained what you are doing. You appear to be dragging the line but that just moves it. I've found out how to turn on the display of an items dimensions but this doesn't help as I can't set them. Thanks.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will have a look at this later.

I love your channel and I'm in the process of building S.T.E.V.E. Can you do me a favor though please? Cover up the back of the high backed chair as at certain angles the white parts of the chair make it look like you have elf ears. :-) I find it distracting and I find myself wanting to wear elf ears as well but that would be the last straw for my wife and probably end in divorce. Keep up the great work Adam.

No need for change Andy, just keep up the awesome content.

Good start to the series, very good point about dimensioning all parts from a reference edge rather than daisy chaining dimensions. I've seen (and done it myself) people get stuck wondering why their dimensions are off after triple checking. Are you going to cover the use of variables? Most other fusion 360 tutorials I've seen completely miss this, yet it's a very powerful feature that takes "parametric" to the next level.

I personally find them pretty useful, nothing worse than deciding to change hardware size near the end of your design and having to go through and change hundreds of hole sizes to match. Actually, one thing is worse, realizing you forgot to change one after you've made it. Other than that they're pretty useful in combination with equations for complex constraints.
