Mister Lars, your videos add so much value to Fusion 360 ! Without knowledge the best software remains a useless tool - Your videos about it's usage makes its value perceived and appreciated. Congratulation to you and to Autodesk for your time and efforts.

Agreed. I'm an experienced machinist, programmer and cad user yet I've watched dozens of Lars videos for the hidden treasure. The lack of product information is what made me hate Mastercam with a passion. I could care less what the software can do if it takes me years to stumble on it by accident.
@mikelang41917 жыл бұрын
I should add that the other thing I hated about Mastercam was the fact you had to rub it's belly just the right way to get what you wanted. Fusion is far far less needy.

Why did you change the settings right around 15:50? Seems like the default settings for that operation were initially what you would have needed instead of adjusting it...
@jenspetersen58655 жыл бұрын
Lars, this is pretty old now. Is there a dynamic replacement export to STL for opp 2. It seems like it would be the right thing to have op 1, 2, 3..... linked so everything dynamically updates.

Hello good afternoon, First thanks for very informative videos. I understand the idea, you create a gabari for the part. You do the hole in jaw for create a start point for the second operation. How you zero the machine, you insert the tool in the hole? I am beginer.

This LarsLive was exactly what I needed right now. About to mill a part and never seen any videos on the cam for flipping a part. Thanks Lars. Can you explain the “rest machining” function in F360?
@DieselRamcharger5 жыл бұрын
rest = remaining stock. it removes only what the previous operations left over.
@daveanderson23167 жыл бұрын
31:40. Also you would get an error message because you can't fit an end mill in those corners, thus you must remove the tab negitives?
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
Yes, you would end up with the radius of the cutter in the corners. I just like to clean up my soft jaws so only the important surfaces touches the part. thank you for watching

Why doesn't my second setup inherit the stock that results from the operations in my first setup?
@mikepaul39597 жыл бұрын
Good info on making soft jaws, programing adaptive clearing, etc. Was hoping to learn how to make the mill stop so you can turn the part over and how to start it again (manual mill?), how to ensure accurate contour blending when cutting both sides, etc.

Hi Mike Paul Thank you for watching! That could for sure be a future topic. Have an awesome weekend

+Lars Christensen Are soft jaws basically your only option for holding contoured shapes? Is it a reliable enough system to work from accurately or would you need to probe the half machined part? I know you've mentioned the pick up hole.
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas Henderson Thank you for watching! Oh no, there are other options. It really comes down to your imagination and the accuracy you need. I have seen fixtures where the part was resting on round ball bearings or hold in a type of foam box. Soft jaws are just the go-to I think. Great question. BEst, Lars
@thomashenderson39017 жыл бұрын
Lars Christensen Thanks Lars! As a beginner in this field it's one of the aspects that concerns me the most, so if you've not already explored work holding in depth in other videos, I'd really appreciate it if you would in future. I'd hate to be making a fully machined part and end up with a tiny waistline where the two sides didn't match perfectly etc. Cheers, Tom.

The back side could have been faced on a lathe with little setup.

Hi Lars. Went through your 5 cam basic vids, they helped a lot, thank you. If you had to machine a 20x20x30 mm block of steel with profiles on each face. How would you hold it?
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bryan Murray Thank you for watching! I guess it depends on what type of machine you have, but it sounds like you might just have to machine one side, then flip, pick the part up and then machine that side...rinse and repeat

The hole you drilled at the end. Do you have a video explaining it? Love your videos btw! Please keep it up!
@cadcamstuff6 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric Neel Thank you for watching! I have not. I should make a video going into detail about drilling. Especially because there are so many enhancements to the function in the latest update. Best, Lars

Lars Christensen I saw the update about the holes but I was wondering about the hole you made. I guess it was for re-locating your x,y on the flip op? Like a reference point.

How can I get facing to start where another operation has left off? Say I flip my part over and have to take off .250. I want to use a .5EM to take off .200 then my face mill to take off the final .05 for a nice finish. When I choose face after 2d adaptive it only picks the top of model or stock and I am unable to pick where the 2d operation left off. Thanks for these videos.

in your "geometry" tab for your second tool you go in and check the box for "rest machining" then there is a drop down in there labeled "source", select "From previous operations" think that will get you where you need to go.
@jackbryan58516 жыл бұрын
could use the heights tab to limit where the operation starts

Sometimes I have only a DXF file. But I see Fusion360 have a lot of problems with that. It is very slow. It takes 5 or more seconds every thing I do...like selecting lines, delete lines. Is there any bug ? So I'm really interested so see how I can mill only with DXF files. Can you make a short video about this? Many thanks!
@cadcamstuff7 жыл бұрын
Hi Captain DJ Thank you for watching! I will put this on the list. Many times it depends on your dxf file. If you file has a lot of line segments, Fusion has to keep track of that and can slow down the system....Good things in Good things out

Hey Lars, great videos mate very informative no idea how I would have got this far without them. One thing that really irks me about Fusion as you mention is the inability to carry over remaining stock to subsequent operations. This was never really an issue for myself as I never had a CNC machine, but now that I have one I am really feeling the pain... STL is just not reliable enough for sure. I can see posts going back to 2015 about this but can't seem to find anything on the Roadmap to support this feature being implemented or even looked at. Is this just going to have to be something we live with or can we expect an update in the near future? Myself personally prefer ease of life updates than nice new shiny features ;) Keep up the good work. Cheers J

Hi JNP NineZero Thank you for watching! I know the development team has been trying to incorporate this along with machine definitions. Honestly, I don't know where it is in the process. Being aware that this has been discussed over the last 3 years, I will not promise that it is right around the corner. I will say that I am pretty sure the product team knows that a better solutions would be really really really nice :-)
