Nice trick!!! 👏👏👏👏 Once the concept shared and the minds opened, people can think about how to do it in other ways. I tried another option that may be less work intensive: instead of replacing faces one by one with the Spheres, I applied Press/Pull to move them inside the sphere (seems to apply exactly the same direction as Replace Face). To cut the external part of the letters I also used an offset but used Split Body to cut all letters with the new surface in one go. And then remove remaining external bodies. I have compared both methods overlapping the bodies and they produce the same result. Congratulations! never thought about this 😁

Wow, that is a great suggestion. I have gone on to try this and it is much easier. While applying the press pull on the inside face, I was able to select multiple faces at the same time. Using the offset face to split body is also much easier. Wished I had thought of this earlier. Thank you!

On a second note, I just realized that after applying press pull on the inside faces of the letters, I can use them to cut into the sphere to create debossed letters. Looks like we have enough material here for a follow up video. Thanks again. I will be sure to credit you in the video.

What if to cut the excess from outside of letters already merged with sphere using another, slightly bigger sphere and intersect option of combine tool?

I know that Fusion 360 is now supposed to be able to emboss on spheres, but I'm not getting the results that I want and have been milling all night about a solution. This is exactly what I needed and surprisingly close to what I was thinking, except that I was planning on extruding faces through the surface of the sphere and then somehow using a larger sphere to spherically cut the extruded faces off. 3 year belated thanks!

I was able to do the same thing in a much more clunky, tedious way. Thank you for this. I had never used replace face and it's a great tool to know!

G'day just recently I had to do this and after a Lots, I mean LOTS of waisted time, I finally found a solution. My method was different to yours, so here's mine. Yours and mine first step was the same, but I then used the loft tool to transform the letters (words) to a single point in the middle of the sphere. Presto it was done. Great method Greg

That's a great way. I had just recently learnt about lofting to a point. Will try this out. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hello! I followed your video step by step, but when Im trying "replace face" feature (3:17 ) I've got 2 errors as below: Error: The fillet/chamfer could not be created at the requested size. This might be occurring at the ends of the selected edges. Try adjusting the size or using multiple separate operations. Check that the selected edge chain ends at a sensible position, and if not try selecting more edges. Error: The fillet/chamfer could not be created at the requested size. Hi, sorry for the late reply, been trying to catch up with the comments lately. I am not sure what could be the problem here. Initially, I suspected that the relative position of the text and the sphere might be the issue. So I tried shifting the text. However, I could not replicate the error message that you encountered. Shifting the text beyond the sphere does produce an error but not the same error message. If you would like to, you can send the f3d file to me. tanwinghoe1983@gmail.com

Hi, when I looked at the file, I was not able to find the problem. For some reason, the replace face would work only on certain letters.
@Benutzername00003 жыл бұрын
@@Fusion360School yes that is my problem as well, 'e' was working while 'm' was not. I've tried some other methods i read in the comments. Lofting to the midpoint was too compute heavy for me but face offset was working. Only on a range to 1,5mm though but it was enough for a split face which then could be offset again. Thank you for answering my question, i love what you do!

I would emboss the text on a cylinder smaller than the sphere and split the letters between the sphere and a spherical surface offset from the inner sphere. effect would be pretty much the same or similar enough so noone would see the difference.

Thank you for this! Do you have tips on how to control joints? I have trouble working with multiple components that are connected with revolute joints. When I try to move one joint the other joints unintentionally move too (and most of the time dramatically) and I end up with a jumbled mess. Edit: I also know components can be grounded but I find it tedious to ground and unground when for example I just want to pose a humanoid robot model. The ground/unground also clutters the history.

I don't quite get why do we need step 1. Doesn't "replace faces" do all the job?))

By step 1, are you referring to the emboss or the extrude to remove the cylinder?

@@Fusion360School i'm talking about emboss. I think the result looks the same without it
@Fusion360School3 жыл бұрын
@@zwhousesupport2901 The emboss is to achieve the wrapping around the vertical axis. If you did not use emboss, how did you create the starting solid from which to perform the replace face? I am definitely curious to know.
@zwhousesupport29013 жыл бұрын
@@Fusion360School oh yeah. I meant it would be easier to just "press and pull" instead of creating cylinder and use emboss on it
@Fusion360School3 жыл бұрын
@@zwhousesupport2901 If you perform a simple press/pull on the letters, you would find that you would only be able to perform replace face on maybe the letters C and D. If you attempt to perform a replace face on the letters at the extreme ends (A,B,E,F), you would most likely encounter an error. Even if you somehow manage to get the faces replaced, the letters at the ends would most likely look severely distorted.
