I create lithophanes from 3DProcks etc. I end up with an .stl file. Print works fine but I want to print a base LED lamp setup that will hold the curve of the lithophane. I start a new project and insert the mesh .stl file. 360 just chugs to a stop if I try to make a simple sketch around the arc in the .stl file. Don't need the .stl file as soon as I make the sketch. But it locks up so badly I can't even draw the sketch to make the lamp base. Any help would be great. I follow everything you do. I have learned so much. Thank you.

I’m missing the mesh to Brep option is that something that isn’t available in the trial version?

Is there anything in Fusion 360 that can conform a solid body shape to the shape of a mesh body? Something like Blender's shrinkwrap modifier?

STL may not be a perfect format, especially if machining tools can make rounded surfaces etc at ease. With 3d printers we are still limited by printer resolution like perhaps 0.05mm layers and 0.2mm nozzles (or more like 0.2mm layer with 0.4mm for typical printer). At that resolution STL seems good enough as an export/output format. For editing stuff or storing the originals you really need or probably at least prefer a more advanced storage option. Many software like Fusion 360 have crazy defaults like making triangles that differ about 0.01mm from the exact surface (Fusion medium quality!) For much coarser 3d-printers that makes no sense and makes triangle count huge. If you allow perhaps 0.03mm error (that should be still much below printer resolution even with the tinies layers), you can really get the triangle count down.

I don't quite get why I can play a game with billions of polygons on the same PC where Fusion can't manage 50k. I'm trying to remesh a 500k STL and Fusion just crashes.
