Another great one. What a mess to deal with. Here's a tip for identifying speakers when you have multiple pairs of wires. Have a 9volt battery in your tool box. Just touch the leads to the battery terminals and you will hear a tick, tick, tick as you touch the battery terminals. You will be able to ID where the speaker leads go to. You only have to wire once to the proper location on the terminal strip. It Saves time.

Thank you and good tip. I will try it next time.

I bought a Fusion Apollo head unit instead of JL Audio. Also bought Fusion Speakers 4 6inch and 2 8inch the speakers were not cheap but they get good reviews. I use to install car audio in the late 90's so I have some understanding and know somewhat how to set up a system old style. Also I know what sounds good and what doesn't (unlike most people. I know, you wouldn't think that's a thing, But it takes hearing different systems to understand good from bad sound.) I was worried I may have made a mistake trying to save a buck. BUT! at the time the Apollo head unit had features I couldn't get with JL Audio. Like both wifi and BT for wireless connectivity. I have an old zed audio hifonics amp. If you know 90's car audio, anything zed designed was impressive. I have had the system for 2 years now and have been really surprised how nice the system sounds, and how dependable it has been at load volumes. (My kids like to play load annoying music on the lake quite often whilst they surf and wake board.) Well maybe I do too once in a while? I'm sure the JL Audio stuff sounds and works great. everything they make is good. I just thought I would let people know the Apollo stuff sounds great also. although, one warning! the old Fusion stuff before Garmin bought them out is junk! Make sure if you buy the fusion brand it has to be the new stuff after Garmin products are great!

I agree. Fusion makes good stuff now. Good point and thank you. 😊

Hi. Another great video. Given all of the work and hours you and the team have spent on the Contender, can you provide an approx. cost to get all of the Contender work completed?? Thanks!!
@JustinLeeMarine2 жыл бұрын
I honestly do not know as I don't do anything in the office. I don't even handle work orders. If I would guess it's north of 50 grand.

Must have taken you a long time to learn how to wire up complex systems like the one in the Contender. Nice work.

So, did the lightening take out all the wiring, or just the components?
@JustinLeeMarine2 жыл бұрын
All the components and some of the wiring. I replaced most of it anyway because I was basically starting over😊

Great job mr DJ. So much work in this boat. Must cost a lot. Would you say you are a boat electrician first, and than a mechanic? Or is it all the same to you at this point? You just do what ever comes your way it seems👊🤭
@JustinLeeMarine2 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I would say I was a mechanic first. The electrical part took years to master😅. I do enjoy all the different jobs I get to do. Makes things interesting 😁

@@JustinLeeMarine I’m sure that took years. I’m fascinated about the stuff you can do. It’s so diverse. There’s always new stuff to learn though. After I graduated I was told that this is when you really start learning. They where right.

I started working on boats in 1999. Makes me feel old. 😅 I learn something new just about everyday. You're not a good technician if you don't always advance.

What’s the logic behind mid volume on the stereo but setting the amp just below distortion?
@JustinLeeMarine2 жыл бұрын
Good question. It's actually the way JL audio taught me to do it when I went to school years ago. They said most stereos will cause distortion at max volume and most people will never turn them to max. 3/4 seems to be the magic number.
@andrewgrant34702 жыл бұрын
@@JustinLeeMarine yeah It makes sense not to set 100% as it would loose quality at 100% amplification.

Depends on how far you have to run the wire but 4 gauge is usually plenty.

JL head unit and Fusion amp - most do the opposite. fusion head and JL amp
@JustinLeeMarine2 жыл бұрын
I agree. The reason I installed a JL head unit is because it's square and looked better in the dash panel we had made. Both companies make good products ☺️
