That Mercury head looked damn scary-one of those things when you are buying used is impossible to see.

That is true. You never know. Best thing to do is get a good inspection on something used. Compression and leak down will tell you everything. ☺️

Many thanks for Great Videos first. I‘m watching from Germany Hamburg. My Volvo Penta GXI GF 2006 Start Bad, if it is warm. If i turn the hot engine off, wait 10 Minutes, and try to start, it start only with 1/2 Throttle. Gas Pumps already new. Gas Pressure Switch, and map Sensor also new. Any Ideas? Many thanks Volker

It sounds like it is heat soaking the fuel. If you are running winter blend fuel it's a common problem. The fuel has a lower boiling point and can cause issues when it is hot. Check fuel pressure when it happens and see if it stays steady. Sounds like the fuel is turning to vapor from heat. Keep me posted and thanks ☺️

Hello, I have a 2020 mercury 200xl DTS v6 with code shift actuator AB difference,and 1 year ago the dealer replaced my lower unit due damage from object, is it possible that they could have done something wrong to cause this? I took it to the dealer for this intermittent problem and they found nothing, but I still have same problems, long beeb ,crank but no saart and code 1024-6, is there anything special to do to align the actuator before removing the lower unit, like put in reverse or neutral etc. Thanks again.
@JustinLeeMarine
@JustinLeeMarine 8 сағат бұрын
The actuator is set from the factory and there is no adjustment. They also don't replace the actuator with the lower unit. The actuator is in the midsection. Unless the actuator was damaged and they did change it. Not sure what they did when they replaced it. It sounds like the actuator is going bad. It's a common thing unfortunately.

I was resigned to the idea. Thank you very much for the help and great follow up. One more question, if you replace the MAP sensor does it require programming or can just change out and go? Thanks again and have a great week.

I have a failed actuator from a 2021 Mercury 225 ProXS. I bought a diagnostic manual and checked the motor circuit and sensors on my test bench. Motor and mechanicals worked but the sensors failed the test voltages in all three positions. It seems the Hall effect sensors in the circuit have failed and it is not available as a repair part. Have you received any indication from Mercury that this part may become available so we don’t have to buy a $1200 part instead of a $100 sensor board. As an alternative, does Mercury or any other source repair or rebuild these units. I bet there are lots of them in trash bins.

Unfortunately they don't let you take them apart. You can get one for a discount if you click on my link in the description. I have sold a few already because they are just over 1000 on the PartsVu website. Keep me posted if you find out anything on replacing internal components.

The code is for the position difference on the command. This indicates that the shift actuator is bad or the gear case has a worn out part. My best guess is you got a bad actuator right out of the box. I would take it back so they can further diagnose it. Sorry for the bad news.

Hi Justin, my optimus display panel is totally dead (all black). there is power coming in through the PCM but the lights are dead. The 2 Yamaha engines don't move at all. I have the same Regal SAV33 boat. Whats your opinion on it? >I don't have a joystick<
@JustinLeeMarine
@JustinLeeMarine 2 күн бұрын
@@mauriziodalessandro1858 that is hard to say without me putting my hands on it but my best guess is the module has failed. That is what controls everything including your gauge. The only thing you can check is if you have 12 volts to the purple wire. That is what wakes up the system.

Thanks Justin! Love the “service” length advice. Question: I found the 2 ACRs on my 2017 280 Outrage with small black wire connected to the SI post (no idea where the other end is connected) and no wire connected to the ground posts. No wonder the ACRs led lights never lit up and house batteries were not charging off the mercs. Any idea why they were set up this way?

It's two wires in the bottom of the pan in a Deutsch connector. You have to pull them out of the connector and dry them off. If they get wet the motor shuts down so it doesn't suck up water. Make sure you don't have a leak as it could harm the Genset.

I have a 1720 Key West with a yamaha 90 2 stroke and the boat has two batteries. One to crank with, the other is the house. What is the function of the SI on the ACR and where does it connect? I read to put a fuse in the ground to the ACR and remove it when your boat is not in use, good or bad idea?
@JustinLeeMarine
@JustinLeeMarine 19 күн бұрын
Start Isolation(SI)allows temporary isolation of House loads from Engine circuit during engine cranking to protect sensitive electronics from sags and spikes. I would definitely install the ground fuse and remove it anytime the boat is going to sit for a while. It will stop the ACR from draining the battery unless you leave it on charge all the time. If you keep it charging you don't need to remove the ground. Good question and thanks 🙂

Today's video (like most of them) are perfect examples of typical boat ownership and things that need to be fixed (that most people would have no clue how to do, or they would prefer to hire you). Most people probably think that a mobile marine tech is just turning wrenches on engines - but you give great examples of a million other things that you have to figure out on the fly, and creatively fix, and try to often do in the single visit - with limited time and materials. Always great to watch you work.
