Fusion What's New March 2024 | Insert Fastener |

In this What's New video we are going to look at what updates happened to Insert Fastener. There are several that happened but the 4 main ones are:

Anyone has issues with the insert fastener function? 50% of the time it works great and the other 50% I get to an empty dialogue box after selecting the fastener type and nothing happens. Tried troubleshooting but can't find a solution or a cause, and that happens with the exact same set of fasteners that worked a day before.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign actually, for anyone reading with a similar issue - I may have accidentally found a solution. I run fusion as administrator and it seems to have fixed it

Great video, to the point 👉 I have a hard time finding the "insert fastner" though. Do I need to be in a team to use it??

Yeah if you are a commercial or edu user you will want to make sure you are not using a single-user hub. Those i believe are being phased out. Insert Fastener might not be available for hobby users.

Is it possible to customize where the folder for the fasteners is stored? I made already a project folder PART LIBRARY and it would be great if I don't have to manage a 2nd project folder

Sadly no. All the hardware is generated via the Insert Fastener tool and once built in 3d saved externally in the Project Fasteners. I would be great IF there was a way to say add 3d models to that project and insert them or be able to change the storage location....

I'm new to this. How does Fusion CAD compare to Plasticity? x3

It depends on what you want to do with it. Fusion has more functionality such as Parametric Models (driven by editable dimensions), simulation, PCB design, CAM programming, detailed drawings. It is more of a professional CAD solution. Plasticity is a CAD modeling program meant to be more of a Direct Modeler. Meaning you can start with a precise input like a 10mm diameter circle, but once you start making geometry you can't go back and edit that 10mm circle and update the model. It is meant for quickly modeling "hard surfaces" and has some great high quality geometry and does really well with tricky geometry. For example I was working on a model and Fusion just wouldn't create a fillet on an edge for me. Plasticity did it no problem. Its a bit more forgiving with geometry issues. If you are making models for games, animation, rendering, or possibly just 3d printing Plasticity can be a great option. If you are planning on designing parts and need mechanical motion, need to deal with tolerances, machine parts or make them for manufacture I would lean towards Fusion.

I work in several Local install programs and cloud based programs. I like that I can login to 3 different computers with Fusion or even in a browser and have my designs there for me. If I am working something in Solidworks and I haven't saved it into a cloud storage program I can't access it.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Oh so you're one of the people that supports the nonsense. Hope your intenet never goes out for the rest of time. To be clear I did mean Autodesk in my OP, but had Adobe on my mind for some reason. Same sentiment applies to all this subscription, "cloud" trash. Cloud - over used buzzword that means "other peoples computers" that companies got widespread enough use of to convince clueless people to think its a good thing. Just a way to take away more and more control all while making it easier to Nickel and dime. Not to mention siphon of some sweet sweet customer data to sell. If you support this, I suppose I hope to see you go out of business too. Perpetual licenses and version iterations had it right. Upgrade when you need or want to or never if applicable. User choice, the way it should be. Not force fed every useless change you don't need because some company that has no clue what your workflow or use case is says you need to update it. I thought you were a designer, not a corporate slave?

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Remote access is a pretty simple thing to require as a reason to submit to your overlords. Enjoy I guess.
