In this video, I will be covering my simple process of fussing fundamentals. I start with hand target food luring, then lure up to the armpit, then transfer to the ball under the armpit and fade out the ball.

Super work and hope to see how u use the e collar in heeling to make dog work faster
@SchutzhundKevin3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean by making the dog work faster for heeling with an E-Collar. I use it essentially the same way as a leash pop on the prong with a nick (momentary) and pair it with the leash pop for final off leash proofing. Faster comes from the dog being in more drive and wanting to do the work!

At what age do you transition from food luring in you hand to holding it up and then holding it chest level? Is it an age thing or a progression/training advancement thing?
@SchutzhundKevin3 жыл бұрын
It's not so much an age thing, more where we are along in the progression. 8-9months old, or older. Once the dog is tall enough for it to be useful. Once the dog is moving the way you want/and natural for the dog, i begin brining the hand up a bit for a step or two, and then back down to nose contact, until I can start getting more and more steps. As the puppy/dog gets better and can go a little bit longer without the hand contact, just looking up, I bring it up towards the armpit, where I then transition to the ball under the armpit and no longer use the hand target luring.

What kind of food reward do you use that seems to not be eating all at once?
@SchutzhundKevin3 жыл бұрын
Hot dogs, or his kibble.
@cristijurcan46162 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, is this achievable with a wire fox terrier? I mean, he is not as tall as the shepherd, could this be a problem? Thank you, awesome vid!
@SchutzhundKevin2 жыл бұрын
It can work with any breed. Even little dogs. :).
@cristijurcan46162 жыл бұрын
Thanks for answering 🙂 will definitely try! Thank you for the tips! Best of luck 👍
@emmakrobins60543 жыл бұрын
Can you clarify exactly what fussing is? Is it the turn or the heeling or both?
@SchutzhundKevin3 жыл бұрын
It's the "Finish" from Front to Basic Position, and it's to heel but with "eye contact" and in drive.

What age is the dog ?
@gapatriot21992 жыл бұрын
Kevin, I noticed sometimes you use a clicker and sometimes a verbal marker. Why would you pick one over the other ?
@SchutzhundKevin2 жыл бұрын
If I have it on me lol… the clicker can be more precise timing for the dog than the “Yes!”

Without destroying the dog's energy and drive--- how do you deal with a dog who takes cheap shots at the ball under the arm?
@SchutzhundKevin2 жыл бұрын
Correct them… if anything it will create more drive because they can’t leak frustration into the cheap shots. Then reward the dog for correct heeling!
@skijorT2 жыл бұрын
@@SchutzhundKevin Thank you! Done. Now, I have beautiful heeling with the ball target.... but she knows when the ball isn't there and gets a lot less prancey/focused. Is it a real gradual fade?
@SchutzhundKevin2 жыл бұрын
@@skijorT fade the ball string, then you can have the ball under big sweatshirt / jacket so it’s no visible, but if still pops out from under the armpit. Or get a super small tug, Then after a month or so, you should be able to just mark yes, then turn and get the ball out any pocket.
@adamr8628 Жыл бұрын
good, but you contradict yourself. you first say to NOT give the command unless you are sure the dog will do it..(but to use movement instead) .....later you said you MUST say the command before the behavior can be done. (and you say to avoid using movement/body language)
