Kevin, at the risk of corniness, I just want to say, your videos consistently provide some of the ‘cleanest’ instruction on the craft. Yours provide clear, sequential steps. Too many out there get diverted by trying to serve to many masters, whether by anticipating too many typical problems to solve or present too much too broadly. We thank you for sharing!

I got dog from a shelter. She’s about two years old. Shepherd mix of sorts. We don’t know her history, but she would bite if someone came into our home. She almost bit my father when he came to visit once but I had her on a leash because I knew she might be scared and try to protect herself/us. She’s a delightful dog but has “stranger danger” issues. I can’t say I dislike that she is protective of the family and our home, but I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to control her if it came to her biting an intruder. This video is clear and concise. I believe I will be able to teach her a strong “out” by using your guidelines. Thank you!

All great information, especially the details you give- I knew the basics but your details are super helpful and important. Just curious about dogs reluctant to out for two-tug game? I think the distance between tugs is useful, and I wasn't throwing it away from me when they outed (was holding onto the second tug), so I'll try that for sure, but my dogs like to grip both toys at once? I'm going to try your method anyway, because I didn't have all the details right, but am curious about this issue as it's frustrating (she can fit 3 balls in that mouth at once).
@SchutzhundKevin
@SchutzhundKevin 3 жыл бұрын
You gotta make sure they can’t get both. :) use a leash to prevent access and the big thing is throw it far enough away you can get the 2nd one before they do. Eventually you should be able to out holding the toy in the dogs mouth for the 2nd toy and then just 1 toy. They let go they get to chase/bite it.

Great video, I appreciate the quick details and the step-by-step process! I guess it would be slightly different for the 'out' without the tug play involved, ie with a ball. Have you got a video (or could it be an idea for one) to see how you'd teach a 'give me/release it in my hand' kind of out in such cases?
@SchutzhundKevin
@SchutzhundKevin 2 жыл бұрын
I never have them put it in my hand, I bring them back to cradle, grab the string of the ball then out. Or out and have them drop it on the ground. instagram.com/tv/CVHBhdRFX0r/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

Kevin, this is great stuff, thanks! My dog does his "Aus" beautifully when on the helper, when playing tug and frisbee. But, when the helper lets the bite sleeve off, and I put him in a Platz and give him the Aus command he is very stubborn and his Aus falls apart often. Sometimes he is spot on, other times no. When it is there between his legs, right below his mouth he struggles to maintain his calm. All other situations its super clean! Any thoughts? Best, Scott

You can back-tie him to the harness so he can't move forward. Then "Out" is "out" if he doesn't let go clean follow through with a correction(s) strong enough to have him let go. Then I pick it straight up and place it on his nose. The Rules Of Engagement still apply. If he's dirty and tries to bite it, he gets corrected. When the dog actively refusing to bite it, praise him. You can even position the sleeve yourself to give him a rewarding bite to reward him for letting go nicely. Platz is Platz and Out is Out. I typically make sure they are down-solid first, then let them possess the sleeve. Then when told to Out, they have to let go. There's no breaking the down etc just because you're picking up the sleeve after you say out.

Thanks for this video Kevin. I work with 2 ball tugs on the out but sometimes with just the one my GSD won't out right away. I need to get better with the leash pop, I suppose. You have such a beautiful dog. Can you share a video on what you and how you feed your dog?

Glad to help I feed VICTOR Select Yukon River Canine or the HERO. I feed them more if they're skinny, less if they're chunky. :) 4-6cups a day + training treats.

I have a 11wk old malinois I say out and she starts growling and gets all kinds of shitty she knows out but she won’t listen if she out it and I give her a reward she’s no longer interested in the toy but more interested what’s in my pockets. She’s to young to punish at the moment but I’m really stuck in limbo, she has great drive for food and toys she started to go after my arm/hand in frustration when I would make her out or play come get it I did punish her for that and she no longer goes after me in frustration I just need her to get out of this age where I can’t prong collar or use my mini educator any tips would be appreciated.

I need help. My dog just killed a squirrel. She's coonhound/cattledog mix, and if she's not pulling me down chasing cats on our walks, she's barking and biting my feet like I'm her herd. I don't know much about dogs or dog training.
