Future Focus: Henco van Wyk | The Centre of Attention | Rugby Tribute 2021

We have for ages been wanting to do a rugby tribute on Henco van Wyk, there are many of the young talent and for good reason - even those who do not know much about rugby can see that Henco will be a future star of the game.
Currently plying his trade at Wits and contracted to the Lions despite 2020 not being kind to him and many other players we are confident that Henco will step up to the plate and showcase his god given talent.

If I could put together this years World XV Under 20, I pick him as the center. Really is outrageous.Would be a good idea for him to be recruited by the Blizbok for this year’s Olympics.

@@NextGenXV , I was expecting to see more of Etonia Bainivalu in New Zealand’s Aotearoa Under 20 Championship this year.Got a scholarship there at age 16 in 2017, has been in the Crusaders development team since. Somehow he wasn’t named in their under 20s.Another is Inia Tabuavou, now with Racing, both players play center/wing.This two are overseas based players. Will have to wait until the revised Oceania Under 20 takes place to see our local based players, for now, I can only guess. Forwards: Onisimo Yabaki - a big powerful number 8.His school, QVS, won our national school championship in 2019. Full Match is on my channel. Ilikimi Torosi Naruma - A versatile loose forward got a lot of speed. Was part of that RKS winning team at the Sanix Japan in 2018. Backs: Viliame Nakiusa - burst out from nowhere. Was the best center in our recent local club under 20 championship. Michael Ofati - a modern midfielder we been struggling to produce. Has good passing skills. Everoni Korobiau - fly half/fullback. Very agile.

He must learn to run with the ball under his right arm and fend with the left too. A good defender will quickly learn which direction he is going to step. Really an awesome centre!

You have so much talent coming through in South Africa I'm wondering why you are so excited about this fella in particular. Great runner and very talented obviously but at 92Kg has he got the chassis he'll need to be making these kinds of line breaks and fends one he gets to senior level? These days almost all the stand out centres seem to be 98-110kg (Allende, Lienert-Brown, Henshaw, Tuiglagi, Moala, etc.)?

He’s 20 years old, so time to put on a bit of size. I agree to an extent with what you are saying but I feel it’s important to distinguish between core strength and weight - look at Kolbe as a case in point. Running lines, instinct and reading the game on Henco’s level and at his age are unheard of, he is years ahead of his peers., but i would say if he is truly to flourish he needs an inside Centre who will really complement his style of play, someone who isn’t flash and exists purely to take the ball up and help put him into space.

He is already a rounded player - eye for a gap, serious off-loading capabilities, strong on his legs, dont stop in the tackle and heat seeking in defence. Great heart. Although talented, his size counts against him. The Kolbe's of this world are very rare. He has a great rugby future ahead, just dont think it is in the backline. If he can bulk up he would make a great flanker in mould of a Brussouw.

Talent is clear and deserving of a video. Was more curious really about why NextGenXV chose him in particular to make a video over all the other prospects as they don't make these kinds of tribute videos very often. I don't know much about South African rugby but there are some young players players I see who are genetic freaks and have the size thrown in as well with the talent and if they stay fit I think to myself that guy is gonna win world player of the year some day. Like Jan-Hendrik Wessels for example. Just seems to be from a different planet.

@@dalenewton9697 have done a video on Jan-Hendrik and several others, chose to do one on Henco because we wanted to do one years ago but another channel has a bit of a Henco obsession and we couldn’t get a break ... when we realized they wouldn’t stop doing Henco videos we threw caution to the wind and just did it. Other players will be done of course but we need some rugby played firsr

Allende and henshaw are both 6’3 roughly which contributes majorly to their weight. That being said ALB is only 94/95 kg. You’ve got to consider his weight relative to his height (I’m pretty sure he’s around 5’11 or 1.8m tall). If he bulked up just another 2 or 3 kg his weight would be perfect for his height and position. 95kg packed into a 5’11 frame with speed is much harder to deal with that 100kg packed into a 6’3 frame

Not really. You could clearly see that he was struggling to get away from some of the players in these clips, but was strong enough to hold them off. It's his overall game which is very impressive.

TAS what you showed he played well tackled well etc. he had a good game. But you have just convinced me more that his future is at flank. Remember Smith from Australia. Same attributes. McCaw said that Smith was the best he played against.

So many players thats bigger than him, faster, that i see and hear of daily. Yes he can play rugby, but please put these guys against young boys who cant be there, whose parents cant afford the 50 000 rand a month school fee just to be there. Making a comparison video, only then can we truly know how good this player is, your video doesnt prove anything. Next gen rugby, please we here in south africa, when last did you visit colesberg, trompsburg? Have you see these laaities play and what they look like? Come to the higveld and come watch a normal rugby match. This henco is not so special, manyyyyyy other players, but they dont have rich folks. So please be more equal in your vid making.

He is pretty ordinary by my high standards. Anything can look impressive in a highlights reel. Just add a few clips you like and then add some music, and off you go. The devil is in the details. The Henco's of this world are labeled so-called future stars long before they have actually achieved anything great. Be careful, so many bright stars, bright in life, burn out all too quickly.
