Future Proofing My Jaguar F-Type: The Ultimate Plan

Hello! I have a 2015 F Type S in Dubai and the first mod i did was installing the wireless CarPlay. I went to a professional shop and they installed a module that connects behind the screen unit into the sat nav input. The touch screen is the original OEM piece, maintaining all the stock features of Jaguar ( a/c, settings, ecc...) but if i click the hard or soft button in the display, it switches directly and smoothly into CarPlay. I can't recommend this mod enough as it makes your whole interior and driving experience up to date with Spotify, Waze, Maps or Google Maps always available and easy to operate rather than relying uniquely on your mobile phone. The price was 2000 dhs that is roughly 500 quids so yeah it's not the cheapest mod but i can't be happier i did it.

My advice before upgrading the headlights to AHBA (active high beam assist), borrow a JLR vehicle that has this feature. I’ve tried it on a couple of Evoques and I have it on my I-Pace and frankly I find that it’s a bit laggy, so you find some oncoming cars flash. You might find that it’s not worth the upgrade (particularly as the sensor will be much lower down on an F-Type than on an Evoque for example). If it’s available on the F-Type, I’d recommend ADB (adaptive driving beam) that requires matrix headlights. This works flawlessly lighting up everything with full beam whilst rapidly blanking off only those parts of the beam that would dazzle other road users. 1 2 3

Agree the same issue was on the J VXR it never worked as quick as you could and people would flash, people still flashed when I wasn't using it as they thought I was on full beam, until I quickly blipped full beam! What was great it would adapt the headlight beam depending on driving on whichever road, city country lane, motorway, I could read the signs easily!! I wonder if it was a similar licenced system for JLR & GM?

123. Good stuff as always. Another mod that I did on mine was to upgrade the steering wheel. I used Royal Steering Wheels who are based in Aylesbury. Was £235 in total and completely transformed the driving experience.

@@danbridgman720 on my cars I had the steering wheel padding made thicker and had perforated leather at 10 and 2 and the rest nappa leather with a choice of any colour thread.

To really future proof your car you should do the two y coolant pipes on the front of the engine and the rear coolant cross over pipes in the rear with after market aluminum ones. Also the supercharger coupler to a solid unit and the water pump has a plastic pipe behind it that also can be upgraded with metal ones, why does Jaguar in there infinite wisdom use plastic coolant parts, bound to get brittle and fail with heat cycling.

Still an awesome car! Re changing the ride height, depends where you drive, no problems around Oxfordshire and the Chilterns, but moving to Surrey there are a fair few speed humps that sand the front bumper down at anything over 20mph at standard ride height, and in the Cotswolds and Bath area there are a few that catch me out at anything over 12-15mph! And as to concrete car park dungeons, some ramp slope changes will scrape at any speed, and just need avoiding! Happy motoring, looking forwards to seeing the various updates arrive. (456 - be a rebel!)

Silver pops, but darker colors suits the F-Type the best. Also, noticed that Apple 16 (latest iPhone version) greatly enhances Apple play wireless connectivity over older versions.

I'd keep it black for how and invest in changing the upholstery colour and design to something more contrasting like diamond shaped tan. It would make it stand out and feel more luxurious for the price of a wrap.

@@tootalltodrive a full interior retrim including dash accents and headliner should range between £3-5K depending on type or types of leather you want to use. Look for someone who's got experience with the F-type.

I installed wireless Carplay from UK firm unique auto developments (IDCore module). I was lucky to have Harmon unit easily accessible behind a panel between seats. No need to remove dash trim.

I fell in love with the run out 75 model F-Type in Giola Green. Looks absolutely stunning. Have a search for F-Types in green on Autotrader and there is one at Hull ( a convertible ), also has the clean looking 5 spoke alloys. Although they are black, they would look fantastic in a dark bronze or grey against the Giola Green.

Nice to see you back with your feet on the ground, hard ground that is ;) If I had to wrap my R I would go for the burnt orange leaving the original black chrome surrounds, black bonnet & side vents black, also plus the diffuser in black too. But at 2-3K it's quite pricey, I'd rather spend the money on the inside. I guess there are a lot of pluses to 'Apple car play' but I have never really used it apart from hire cars. I do miss the top version from Vauxhall the Navi950, which was full voice control and what I considered to be a great system in my J VXR, which was all black too lol. It had auto adjusting bi-xenon headlights too, due to my age and eyesight driving at night, I miss that too! First thing I noticed driving the Jag at night was that the lighting was worse and I was sitting lower so was being dazzled by a lot of modern cars with their LED/Laser headlight systems. Not too much of a problem in the city at night though. I plan to keep my Jag too for the longer term but same as you I'm always window shopping and fancy something, but yet, when I get into the Jag and just hear that raw roar, I know I have a winner in terms of sheer enjoyment, I wouldn't care if the infotainment system broke! Look forward to updates Will, so pleased you decided to keep it, made me feel I was right in keeping mine too after thinking about it. Cheers.

When you listed the upgrades I was like yep! Exactly want I want to do, the headlights aren't the best on the 2017, I want new alloys aswell but they are expensive, and I would love to get mind wrapped, haven't thought about sunflower yellow!

123. A lovely car as it is even with out the wrap. I like the Porsche nardo grey. I think with the nice lines of the F type that would look great with black accents. I’m thinking about doing that to my defender

Look up modstock for valves. Think theirs are stainless steel, about 400 quid fitted...and they do it at your house ! For a bit more they also do an exhaust mod (?) I didn't do it but involves more sound as I understand it.....

Might be worth trying somebody elses FType that has high beam assist, ...mine had it and it always triggered high beam a half second later than I wanted (needed..) it.... so 9 times out of 10 I over-rode it with the lever.

In all honesty...I couldn't see much with the LEDs and would probably try to test the old style non-LED ones and give serious thought to going backwards to them if they are better and can be wired in....with the added benefit of avoiding the failing DLR nightmare that so many are suffering.

Yeah, I have it on mine and it's not great. Not only is there the delay, but I find the brightness of my own lights reflecting off road signs triggers it.

Almost bought a white one at weekend but didn’t because I was worried about potential problems and cost to repair, ie injectors seizing due to water ingress , y pipe splitting etc. regret it if I’m honest😔, think joining a jag forum put me off as all people mentioned was cost of these issues

You can also look at upgrading wing mirror indicators to LED £20 cheapest and most effective upgrade, front spats, upgrading all the speakers made a huge difference, sound deadening doors etc they are all relatively cheap upgrades that give great benefits! Ftype from Hertfordshire 🙌🏼

I have to say these mods are not for me , I don’t know why people want CarPlay , I connect my phone with Wi-Fi or Bluetooth and really don’t want to access apps while driving and as for google maps which I like I don’t want to be paying phone bills when driving abroad, which I do a lot for downloading maps

Well the CarPlay and high beam seam a good idea 😂, not sure about the rest. I’m sure jag did lost of development for handling and ride. Been there, done that. Don’t end up with soft aftermarket wheels with the state of our roads
