11:12 I can answer this one. Sadly RDR1s code is REALLY Spaghetti and it led to a lot of development issues throughout. It's why the game was never released on PC for a long time, cause the code was so all over the place and unstable. They had plans to implement swimming, but yeah. Was unable to in time and just made water instant death. And when RDR2 came out, knowing John would be playable. They just decided to make it canon that John just can't swim. So it lines up with why water works the way it does for him in both games.

Stealing a horse was a _VERY_ serious crime in the old west. You kept your whole damn life on that horse, and if you were jacked in the wrong spot, you could very well die before you reach civilization. It wasn't petty theft, this was a hangable offense.
@johnnybensonitis78535 ай бұрын
It could have definitely been a dangerous setback, but fortunately it was just too difficult for most would-be horse thieves to actually find success in that such endeavor. Back in the old west horses were actually able to hear their owner whistle from any distance, at any place, and at any time! Someone hop up on your mount looking to appropriate it for their own transportation needs? Just belt out that whistle and the horse will immediately respond by kicking up to stand tall on it's back two legs which would always send whatever ruffian/ne'er do well spilling off the beast! Of course this was faithfully recreated in RDR1 where your horse is always within earshot of your call even if on the moon, then you could ride anywhere and reach any destination at mach 3 speeds capable of breaking the sound barrier. Horses were so fast they could even take you back in time!
@restitvtororbis53305 ай бұрын
@@johnnybensonitis7853Best way to stop horse thievery in the old west was to make sure you don't leave behind one to get thieved. Me and my posse used to dismount with a little POP to the back of our mount's head. It's a perfect way to keep your zebra donkey from those low level plebs and you get a sick ragdoll dismount to boot. Also, I'm not certain if any of the mounts can go much over the sound barrier, but i know damn well if you ride fast enough across the entire map to blackwater there's a good chance it can't load fast enough and you'll start getting snapped forward like a rubber band and phasing through walls to get trapped inside buildings (this happened several times, good god the online was broken)

while its disputed, the actual most likely origin is that it stems from the Spanish word for Greeks, and is just a general term to refer to foreigners, as it is used nowadays. By 1911 as in game, it'd already be in common use as a term for Americans or general foreigners.

My take on John having a daughter but she died, best guess is that his daughter was born between 1907 and 1911. Judging how John reveals his daughters death, this implies that his daughter died from either illness or infant mortality, and the weight in his voice made me believe she was pretty close to John's heart. As for Jack not mentioning having a sister, my guess is he either wasn't close to her or didn't really like her or know about her. But all of this isn't really confirmed.

I absolutely fell into this game. Just me my horse and a night sky in the desert , doing a little hunting gathering and exploring. I still haven't been able to force myself to play past the opening slog of RDR2. I know it's got some great content . I've been told that I just need to put a few more hours into it. The thing is I didn't need to put more than a few minutes into this one before I was hooked. The train ride and stepping out into Armadillo was all it took. Probably played through it a dozen or so times. Granted RDR2 has got some amazing features, but I just didn't mesh with the whole gang aspect , I liked being alone in the first game. AND even without the amazing features of RDR2 like shrinking horse testicles , I somehow still had much more fun in the first game. It didn't take half an hour to skin an animal, I didn't have to worry about my loadout every time I got off my horse , I could carry enough stuff to be convenient. I still install and try number 2 every once in a while just to try , but haven't been able to get into it like I did this game. I guess a lot of the attraction of the first one was how straight forward and uncomplicated it was. It just allowed you to focus more on the world I guess IMO.

I think the Strange Man is either God or Death. I think it most likely is God. He kinda hints at wanting John to do the right thing but gives you the choice. He also stands where John would be buried at the end of the game. It's like he knows how the story ends but how the ending happenings he doesn't know. Hinting at John having freedom of will. The ending is the same but freedom to choose what to do before the ending (death). It seems the Strange Man is giving John a way to somewhat make up for past crimes. A way to redeem himself and possibly save his soul despite John being doomed to his fate. Stranger acts in great interest and curiosity towards John. Inserting himself in a quiet moment to speak vaguely on what could be right or wrong. Similar to how God appeared to people in the bible. John is in a unique position that probably hasn't happened before. A criminal gang member being forced to hunt down his former gang members. It would make sense that the Stranger would take this strange situation to see what John would do before the predetermined outcome. One other clue is how when John shoots him 3 times. The fourth time the gun jams. Each bullet represents the outcome of 4 characters. 3 Have the same, one is different. John, Uncle and Abigail die at the end of the game. Jack goes on to live to do one thing. Revenge. Like and Eye for an Eye. After John realized the shots did nothing. He says "God Damn You" in both frustration and surprise. The Strange says "Many have." Referencing how people say "God damn it". Before the Stranger leaves for good he looks at the ground and says "This is a beautiful spot". The ground he looked at being where John, Abigail would be buried. Similar to God, the Stranger being vague is part of the mystery of what lesson or moral can be found within the words of a riddle or phrase. Both have a ending that they want the person to reach. The Stranger gives John the answers. God gave prophets the answers. Its up to the person to figure out what the answer is on their end and how to reach it. This is just my theory though.

Perfectly said. I always seen it as a symbol of death or fate. Lots of foreshadowing and being cryptic. He is (or seems) supernatural, like a figure of imagination in John mind, soul and conciseness. He can be viewed as a god too I suppose, but John has done alot of bad (Killing and robbing) so he can also be seen as a devil figure.

Cheers, Fuzzy. This is a great game and I still go back to it from time to time. Never really enjoyed the last bit with Jack, but the main game is just brilliant. Not play the zomie DLC, but look forward to what you make of it.👍

I absolutely love this game. It was my favorite game of the seventh generation, easily one of my favorite stories in video games, one of my favorite protagonists in all of gaming, one of my favorite open worlds, and my favorite video game of all time.

I replayed this myself recently, and I couldn't find whatever it was that made me play it constantly when it was new. The thing that sticks in my mind today is just how obnoxious the horse controls are. RDR is a game I wish I had left in my memories rather than replaying it.

In my first playthrough when I had to get the deed from the old man I didn't have the money, and knocking out people with my fists isn't lethal because they always get back up, so I did that, and the game still acted like I killed the old man even though I could clearly see him running away

This game has an atmosphere unmatched, love the map however without the minimap you cant really get around, the shooting feels pretty good, and there are quite a few missions i find very exciting. Just the extracurricular activities, along with the ambient music, make you feel transported back to that time. The story taken on its own before 2 came out is quite flawed, and the side characters, for the most part, are very one-dimensional or one trick ponies. The villains themselves like javier and bill are handled badly, and their final confrontations are quite rushed and unmemorable. This is not good, considering you spent most of the game chasing these guys. Mexico is the worst part of the story, its all a mess and you feel like you are pretty getting played by both sides going with the waves rather than making progress yourself. At least in the first act, you were making progress building up to the finale. Landon Rickets is awesome, though. No complaints about the last arcs, love the stranger man and how he ties to john and his story. I liked Dutch, his part was handled well and tied to the themes of the dying old west and the beechers hope rancher missions while boring to the other people help very much reflect the type of life john always wanted to live with his family before it was taken away from him. I enjoyed the fact that he took what he learned from bonnie to make a better life for himself and his family. The ending, man, that ending still gives me chills to this day. There are plenty of things i can say i like and dislike from the story. But as far the gameplay goes, i think it's very good minus a few things. i thought it could do better. However taking two into account, this game's story is just so much better when it comes down to it. It makes dutch much better, johns goal to save his family is much more relatable, and makes characters that weren't fleshed out that much better. The themes of the story and the general purpose a lot stronger, jack marston specifically benefits from this too as he becomes an even more tragic character after all the stuff he went through, this kid could never get a break.

Yeah, I think RDR2 handled swimming better: you can swim, but not far. Just enough to keep falling in the water from being instant death, but still leaving you unable to swim to places the game doesn't want you going.

You ever hear the tragedy of Dutch van der Linde? I thought not. It's not a story the Government would tell you. It's a Western legend. He was so skilled in persuading and brimming with charisma he even managed to make the people closest to him, believe he wasn't the enemy.

I know this information is probably not as helpful now, but if you have to follow someone on a horse, you can hold X(PS), or A(xbox/switch) and you'll match the speed of the person you are following.

the way dutch says, "this is a good one" rings like he knows his other plans were regretful failures. i don't like its inclusion in the second game because it feels like he had it planned all along. i would like it more if it were only in this game as its indicative of his downward spiral, even acknowledging that he's a monster in a subsequent sentence. i feel like they could have left it out of the second game
