"You kill, I kill, you rob, I rob...only difference I can see is I choose whom I kill and rob and you destroy everything in your path." Gotta give it to Dutch, he might have been crazy, but he was 100% right on Cornwall there.
@Longshanks1690Ай бұрын
@@grandadmiralzaarin4962 Except no, he had it completely backward. Cornwall, as a pillar of society, relies on order and stability in order to conduct his business. He will treat rivals and threats without mercy but so long as you are of financial use to him, he will work with you. But Dutch? Dutch thrives on chaos, and at his heart cares for nothing besides himself. He doesn’t care how many of his own gang have to die to pursue his dreams, he will continue on no matter the casualties and no matter the cost. He will lie, make excuses and do whatever he has to in order to survive. Even people like the Wapiti who did nothing to him he is prepared to sell down the river to create some “noise” to mask his escape. So it’s the other way around - Cornwall chooses who he kills and robs. It’s Dutch who destroys everything in his path

Cornwall is one of the more interesting characters in the game, not as a character in and of himself, but in terms of what he represents. Cornwall is, in many ways, the personification of 1899 America; Industrious, confident, successful but also callous, cruel and prideful. What he is for certain is the personification of everything Dutch despises and aspires to; wealth, power, success, legions at his command and the capital to make his visions a reality. That hatred and envy is what drives Dutch to rob his train in the first place. The actual bonds are a third rate goal, slighting Colm O’Driscoll is a second. What actually drives Dutch to ignore Hosea’s pleas to silently keep moving west is the idea that he can take from the man who has everything and have him be none the wiser. And that decision is what damns them all, among Dutch’s others. Like Brontë, Cornwall is a foil to Dutch as his mirror, and his equal. Cornwall is every bit as arrogant, prideful and vengeful as Van Der Linde himself so he dispatches the Pinkertons after them, not because this one train was any great loss but because the insult to his standing and honour is something he cannot abide. Despite not appearing in much of the game, Cornwall looms over the story as a constant threat being a patron of Milton to ensure the agent can enact his justice on Dutch so that Cornwall can get his revenge. Again, the metaphor for America comes into play; the alliance between the state and titans of industry bringing an inescapable sense of law to a land that was previously considered wild and untouchable by taxmen and lawmen. This also ties into Arthur as he can no longer run from his own sins and has to accept that time is over, but I digress. The point is that Cornwall exists as a manifestation of this era of American industry, the thing Dutch despises but also the thing that he is helpless to stop. Both men are presented with the chance to let it go; Dutch could have let the train chug along and Cornwall could have accepted the meagre loss given the depths of his fortunes. But because of their equal pride, both men were committed to see the destruction of the other, even if in doing so, all they did was ensure each other’s own ruin instead.
@shaktikesavan9113Ай бұрын
It's sad to think that if Dutch had let the O'Driscoll's rob the train, Cornwall would have gone after Colm instead. The Van Der Linde Gang could have escaped in all that confusion. Even in Chapter 6 when everything was going to shit, if Dutch had really listened to the conversation between Agents Milton and Ross and Cornwall, he was planning on cutting funding for them anyway and if Dutch hadn't killed Cornwall, the Pinkertons would abandon their pursuit of the gang and what was left of the Van Der Linde Gang could have escaped.
@Longshanks1690Ай бұрын
@ It’s even sadder to think that it wouldn’t matter at all in the long run. Dutch’s personality is just too prone to self-destruction to avert for long, the opening to the game being them on the run from one of Dutch’s disasters when Hosea and Arthur apparently had a much safer scam going on. And that cycle would just keep repeating. They could have had a safe spot being sponsored by the Grays in Rhodes but could Dutch help himself? Nope, he tried to use both families and ended up getting Sean killed. Saint Denis is more complicated because the Pinkertons were only following them due to Blackwater and Cornwall but it still seems likely that heist would have ended in disaster too. Eventually, even in Tahiti, Dutch would have been unable to help himself and caused a needless tragedy because he thought he was smarter than everyone else. That’s the true tragedy of RDR2, so many technical ways the story could have been improved but the sobering reality that so long as Dutch was incapable of fighting his own nature, it was always going to end up like that one way or another.
@shaktikesavan9113Ай бұрын
@ Absolutely! Dutch’s pride was a big factor in everything going wrong. Even in Saint Denis, if they had done what Brontë had wanted them to do, Brontë himself would have never allowed the Pinkertons in Saint Denis due to the fear of losing an important asset and likewise, the Pinkertons would not want to go to Saint Denis due to the fear of pissing Brontë off. Dutch’s ego, pride, and inability to live and let live costed him everything. It truly is a masterpiece of a game as it shows how human nature can be the end of us all and it also shows that no matter how smart or strong you think you are, there will always be a bigger, badder bully to put you in your place.

His death always felt the most anticlimactic. Milton and Colm are up there too, Cornwalls presence was felt in literally every single chapter, and he was this big, bad rich guy with his own militia and a lot of power but then he just gets shot in the chest once in the middle of a conversation and then that’s the end of it, you’d think they’d at least have to chase him down or something, make it intense, something of a boss fight maybe, still was a cool scene though and the devs probably wanted it to feel semi anticlimactic for reasons
@cesarparedes3805Ай бұрын
I feel like that tone is purposely there. Like yes we’re killing all the main antagonist but it won’t save the gang while they’re going down the path of destruction.
@MaliersАй бұрын
It kinda Amplifies death itself, someone was there and their presence felt, Then suddenly not, it's just a empty hole left. And every death in rdr2 is like that, just gone, as anticlimactic as it is.
@StolenTheif27 күн бұрын
I think the reason it's so anticlimactic (especially compared to other deaths) is because you're not supposed to be thinking "Wow it's great Cornwall is dead" you're supposed to feel like Arthur, thinking "Good lord Dutch has gone insane," if his death was more satisfying then it'd be easier to fall into Dutch's headspace

All 6 tribes have relatively close proximity to the in game locations. Now there isn’t anything that I can see that would distinguish him from one tribe over another, but perhaps a closer look is in order Edit: after looking at a map showing the rdr2 map imposed on the current us map, I’d say that Charles is likely descended from either the Comanche, or the Arapaho, or Blackfeet, although that last one is unlikely due to how far north the tribe lived

19:55 This is the one thing about Cornwall that makes absolutely no sense to me. 😂 So, he’s so incensed about Dutch that he comes out of whatever pad of luxury he lives in to confront the gang leader directly with a platoon of hired guns, makes sense so far. He’s shouting for him to come out, he’s not messing around and is determined to confront him. But as soon as Dutch comes out… he leaves… what? 😂 What was the point of him coming in person only to leave right before he has the chance to actually confront the man he’s spent so much money pursuing? If he had sent one of his lieutenants in his stead, this scene would make more sense and show his wealth and power even more as he doesn’t even see Dutch as important enough to come himself. But if he’s going to do that? He actually has to stay around for the end result. It seems clear they wrote this scene cos they wanted Cornwall there but also need him to show up later so they have him ride off before Arthur can dead eye him even when it makes absolutely no sense for him to do so given he came all the way out to Valentines in the first place. Overall, the writing in this game is very tight but this is one of the parts where the writing was not as strong as it could have been in this scene.

I think the main point of this was to show how impatient Cornwall is. Remember, he views Dutch and his gang as beneath him, and (exempting his loss of pride after having been robbed) they aren’t really worth his time. His ego was satisfied the moment he showed up and confronted Dutch “man to man.” After that, why would such a mighty and rich fellow such as himself stay to watch what was in his view rats getting shot in a barrel? That’s not worth his time. (Of course, when he finds out that Dutch escaped and made a fool of him, his ego is once again wounded, but we’re speaking of the timeline up to the valentine shootout) We’ve seen that Cornwall doesn’t really care about loss of life, so at this point in the story, what makes Dutch so special that he gets the “honor” of Cornwall staying to watch his demise? Tl;dr: Cornwall just needed to show that he was there so his ego was satisfied, after that watching Dutch die was a waste of time to him.

I was watching Deadwood the other day and of course I thought of RDR 2 quite a bit, Cornwall is basically the same as George Hearst. Both are very powerful men, both have extensive business interests, both have a lot of hired muscle that they aren't affraid to use, and both are in bed with the Pinkertons. I know there are some differences, for one Hearst doesn't die in Deadwood, wheras Cornwall does in RDR 2 still though there a lot of similiarities between the two.

If there is anyone I felt bad for in this game it's the two dead prisoners in the burned town.

I've an idea Fizhy, you can also try doing a 'What if' series for Rdr2 like what if Arthur managed to stayed alive & John was supposed to hunt Arthur in rdr? It can be a very interesting videos/series. Always love your rdr2 documentaries.

I picked up the main game pretty recently after only having Online for awhile, and I didn't throw the train driver off the bridge. He hit the ground like three or four metres before the ravine.

It would be interesting to see who the wealthiest character is in each franchise! Obviously Leviticus for rdr2, Maven Black briar for skyrim etc.

I've personally always viewed the bison hunting side mission with Charles as a way of showing a little bit of real history. America wanted to reduce the power of the Native American tribes in the Great Plains, so they had set up hunting programs where they invited as many hunters as possible to come and hunt Buffalo. This hurt the tribes of the area tremendously as they basically relied on the Buffalo for everything, like Charles was saying in the mission. In the end the U.S government had incentivized the deaths of so many bison that it severely reduced the power and ability of the tribes of the great plains and you can even find pictures of mountains of bison skulls with U.S army officials standing around them.
