FWD Burnouts: Steering, Bracing, & Test Runs

We finish up the steering on the AWD go kart, build a seat bracket, mount the seat, and add two separate throttles for the front engines for our wickedly fast accelerating FWD (currently) go kart. Next time we're working on finishing up the gussets and mounting the rear engines!

You can go to most tractor supply stores and the have a few bins of universal joints as parts for lawn mowers and tractors.

CarsandCameras connect both throttles to one long bar across the front where the 2 throttles are so you can just press down in the middle and both will go at the same speed

Idea ike, hook up one throttle for the 2 engines in the rear, and one throttle for the front engines. Then you can drift it with just rear engines.

if you guys dont want to go about balancing 4 engines to have the exact same throttle response on 1 pedal with cables i would go about trying to set up drive by wire using some sort of heavy duty potentiometer on the pedal and servos for the throttles. servo controllers arent too hard to come by and all you would need is a small sealed lead acid battery to drive the circuitry.

three pedals, one throttle either side for each bank of motors(two cables hooked to one pedal, right pedal for both right motors) and middle pedal for all brakes/two small pedals for front/rear brakes. just a suggestion and would be pretty sick.

i made a fwd go kart 13 years ago i used front engine front wheel drive with front hubs and 4 wheel brakes driven by beefy steering universals(the universal joints from the steering colum to the steering rack/box) rear fuel tank(15litre) electric carby fuel pump external generator ran from the flywheel full lights setup, fiberglass body for steering rack i used a shortened Ford escort(Europe type) Mk2 aka as yankys call them "second generation" worked well for many years till it was stolen

Maybe you should make a throttle bar on the front so you can connect all the throttles instead of one on each foot. That way they'd all pull at the same time and you'd free up a foot for a brake.

it be a good idea to weld out of the wind , preferably inside the gas you use to shield the weldpudle from the bad stuff will blow away at the slightest gust of wind unless you use a windscreen or turn the gasflow way up

I would say move the rack to the front and use a gear and chain to reduce the amount of turns also give more leg room and correct the odd angle of the steering wheel
