FX88 races on the Athabasca river outside Whitecourt, AB. Racing is tight in the FX class as he and fellow racers compete for every inch of the river.

Great video, I love the jet boats! So cool to be able to fly down the river and not worry about sandbars and whatnot.

If you have never been hit by a jet boats jet wash it's like hooking up 400 or more horsepower to a fire hydrant. It's brutal and can be devastating to a person or another boat. The jet wash can fill another boat with water in a couple seconds.

Are the bow wings adjustable like trim tabs or are they fixed like a car spoiler?

Is one boat allowed to cut off another like that? no rules against that?
@jimbush83253 жыл бұрын
No, you are supposed to be aware of your tail wash. These types of boats will flip at top speed when hit with jet wash. The canards are adjusted by the navigator and allow just inches of the boat hull to touch the water, so they are always on the edge of flipping. That is the sweet spot.

From 2:00 to about 2:30 is crazy close to the bank and other boat but he never lifts.

Actually that was a pretty conservative run. You should see some of the guys in this sport. Spencer King for example runs like a scalded maniac down the river.

What is the clearance on those boats in the water?! Those guys were going through what looked to be shallow shit!!!
@ChristopherGaul7 жыл бұрын
Heh, they have fairly flat bottoms in the planing area of the hull and they only really need enough water depth to keep the jet pump fed, only a few cm or so, but I've seen them slide over sandbars and other things. Most have ablative sliders on the bottom made of delrin, nylon, or other slippery plastic that they can essentially ride on like sled runners should they go too shallow, cross a log, etc. Not in a race mind you, but they could. It's just slower to do that so they don't. Well, that and it's dangerous. Checkout this video showing you what I'm talking about. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gZfJZaprhL2nbZY There's a lot of these types of jetboats in the North and the people that run them do insane stuff with them.

I'd like to think these jet boats have minimal impact on the environment & hopefully don't hurt the fish. But I do wish they quieted themselves with the modern device called the: MUFFLER because birds, bears, coyotes, humans don't like the noise.
