Axle nut Torque is 76 ft-lbs not 47 like I said, it was late haha.
Hey Guys! Just noticed my chain was a bit loose after riding about 600 miles now so here's how I adjusted the chain tension.
Any questions please comment I will answer.
Thanks for watching!

The manual that came w my fz07 says the Axle nut is to be at 76ft lbf you might want to tighten that the rest of the way so you don't kill your self. It's on page 7-25

I just did my chain adjustment. What a pain in the ass trying to make sure both sides were lined up. I got it lined up and at 2.05in I measured from center of chain to the lowest part of the drive chain guide.

Thanks for the vid. Just want to reiterate what someone else said. make sure you measure the gap from bottom of chain guide to the centre of the chain, not the top of the chain.

I like these tutorial vids you've put up. Really helpful considering I'm planning on getting the fz-07 as my first bike. I'm a very mechanically inclined person and can do most work on my car so it seems like I will b able to handle things with the bike just as easily.

Do you have any tips or recommendations as far as what maintenance equipment and or supplies I should get at the time of purchase?
@ThumpermanMotovlogs
@ThumpermanMotovlogs 10 жыл бұрын
Basic tools are fine ratchets and sockets maybe screwdrivers and Allen wrenches. BUY THE WARRANTY! Lol it's worth it. Plus they usually give you a deal on the 5 year y.e.s warranty. :)
@ZachManner
@ZachManner 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! And as far as the extended warranty is concerned, what is/isn't covered by it?
@ThumpermanMotovlogs
@ThumpermanMotovlogs 10 жыл бұрын
Only things not covered are wearing parts like the clutch. Engine could blow up 4 years from now and they'll throw a new one in for free no milage limit, not to mention its interchangeable so you can sell the bike and the warranty goes with it! I've used my warranty for free check ins for small electrical stuff and the battery cable recall its just nice when it's all free :)

Looking around because today I took my brand new FZ-07 out for the second time and at 39 mile I was hit from behind. Only my plate hole looks to have been hit. But got home and saw my chain was lose. Not sure if the dealer didn't give it to me with the proper settings. But Ty I'm going to go buy the tools for adjusting my chain and hope that's all it needs

One thing you missed is to tighten from the tightest part of the chain, all chains have a loose section and a tight section. If you adjust from the tight section then it should be good for the rest of the chain. Cheers!

Should measure chain tension at several locations to find tight spots. Then adjust the tension at the tightest spot.

Maybe a little late but your torque should be 47 ft-lbs for the FRONT and 67 ft-lbs for the REAR axle. Pages 7.39 to 7.41 of the manual. Great video!

You should have a buddy sit on it when checking tension. The chain tightens up when weight is applied and the front sprocket is aligned with the rear axle...remember a little too loose is always better then too tight.
@fillg
@fillg 9 жыл бұрын
David Smith I've heard that, and it might be true for other bikes, but not this one. Here's a quote from the manual: "When checking and adjusting the drive chain slack, there should be no weight on the motorcycle." I'm not trying to be a smartass or anything, just don't want anyone to get their chain too tight.

hey thumperman, are you measuring from the lip on the chain guard to the center of the chain? and also after doing my chain last night i found the little notches in the swing arm to be very hard to read and bad. I used a rod in the axle and a tape to measure from pegs to axle to get it just right.

Got an issue with mine. When I try to loosen the chain on the chain ajuster on the right side, the adjusting nut moves freely without moving the axle towards to front to loosen the chain. (But when I tight the chain, it works). So the adjusting nut move freely so that I can actually remove the gray backplate. On the left side everything is normal when I try to loosen the chain it works and move the axle. Any idea?

Did you find any difficulty that the RHS chain adjustment plate doesn't stay square to the alignment marks when you tighten the single sided nut!? I might be a bit OCD about it but this makes it very hard to get an accurate alignment without having to brace it whilst you tighten the axle nut back up to torque.
@ThumpermanMotovlogs

This bikes motor is a little noisy if the chain is slapping the swing arm then it needs an adjustment but you should just check the tension first. :)

Thumperman Chame just did and it's in spec. I don't hear anything when riding just when I push it forward. I cleaned and lube the chain but you the sound comes back after awhile. Should I be worried?
@Ezethede
@Ezethede 9 жыл бұрын
mrpotatohead If you notice it mostly while riding, and at 3-4k rpm, check to see if it seems to be coming more from the top of the engine. These bikes are known for valvetrain noise as Yamaha intentionally left excessive clearance between the valve stems and the cams, so that as the valve seats wear in you don't have too-tight of a valvetrain. The noise is normal and will eventually lessen the more miles you put on the bike.
@XMotoMedia94
@XMotoMedia94 9 жыл бұрын
Eric Bruns thanks. Turns out it was the chain guard that's in front if the small sprocket. I never cleaned it so the dirt kept building up. The bike runs normal now.

Chain should be loose, people keep their chains too tight, go to a track day, I guarantee you 95% of road riders chains are over-tightened, causing more friction and more wear on the chain plus keeping the rear swing arm tighter and affecting the rear suspension.
