G-4A Military Glider | IL2 Normandy

Testing out the new G-4A glider for IL2. With a 40% mortality rate, these gliders went by several names to reflect the danger. Nevertheless, they played an important role on D-Day.

That really gave me a feel of what my dad felt when he made the D-Day Invasion and Market Garden Operation in his CG4A. He was much braver than I.

I was at Fort Bragg from 83-2010. Every time I went to the museum I had a sense of awe for those men. I’d rather take my chances under a parachute than to be crammed into a glider made out of sticks and canvas. Is this one of the missions on IL2? If so I hope they put troops or equipment inside on actual combat drops. Thanks for posting.

Me too, they said you either came back dead, battle hardened, and or an alcoholic from this experience. But yes they’ve added these to the Normandy career mode and one other map. The two launches in this video I did from the quick missions map. I still want to try the career for it. I might end up creating my own mission. I would like to fly with many at one time. You can also add about 8-10 airborne units, and a jeep.

Lol yeah that was my first launch and the tow plane took us straight for the ships lol. I’m curious to try these in the career mode. I would like to set up a scenario with many of them flying at once. Thanks for watching! Wish you all the best into the new year!

I wonder if a player flown Dakota could pull a player controlled glider into the drop zone ... Would be kinda neat for online scenarios :D

Right?! From what I read the hull was made of wood too. Or at least the bottom. They were saying it wasn’t much to stop bullets from penetrating.

How did you get this mission. I'm unable to select a glider in quick mission.

The glider is DLC, have you purchased?

@@TheFlightSimDeck Yes I purchased it. There is a mission available with the glider (Chicago Night) but nothing more than that it seems. I can't find the glider in quick missions.

@@maxeisert7466 oh I remember I had this issue too. I forgot what I did to get them showing up. Some box I had to check that allowed more things to populate in the quick map. I will find out and get back to you here.

@@TheFlightSimDeck In the meantime I found it. Previously I was clicking on the Advanced Quick Mission Generator icon which didn't allow to select the glider plane. Clicking on the single airplane icon however does allow to select the glider after which you can start a mission using the Quick Mission Builder.
