It sounds like someone is vacuuming in the other room, like the muffled sound is coming through the walls, and that's when you're directly in front of it. It was a bit of a clenched watching the Home Depot guys hauling off Samsung front loaders that were still in working order. I don't blame you one bit for waiting. My units were probably only 8 years old, but I'd already had to replace drum rollers in the dryer twice, the heater once, the door baffle on the washer and the drum shocks once, and just decided to bite the bullet since I had a little discretionary cash sitting around. Presuming that this thing lasts and doesn't have trouble, I'm a happy camper. It's saving me quite a bit of time and energy, and just performs exceptionally with anything I throw in it.

I will say this - not sure whether you're completely blind or have some vision remaining, but you may find the controls difficult. They are great for those of us with sight, but there are no buttons or knobs. It's just a smooth, membrane control panel that is touch sensitive. The individual touch areas are quite large, so there's plenty of room for you to place stickers with braille on them, but they are indistinguishable by touch from the factory. Please let me know exactly what else you would like to hear and it will be my pleasure to record it and help you. I'm still loving my machine, by the way!

Goodness, I hope that you're getting used to it. It's not really that loud, but it's distinct, and the rest of the appliance is so quiet that the heat pump is mostly what you hear. To me, it sounds like a refrigerator starting up, but I have the luxury of a laundry room with a door that can be closed. That said, I never close it. My bedroom door is just around the corner and it doesn't keep me awake. I could imagine it would be more audible if enclosed in a smaller space. The required clearance around the machine is really small. I wonder if you might get some relief from installing a solid wooden shelf just above the top of the machine and perhaps line the bottom of the shelf with a sound deadener like Dynamat? It does seem like the noise you describe comes from the metal lid on the appliance.

Any problems with drying taking a while? Average time to dry? Thanks
@migbham1 Жыл бұрын
No problems whatsoever. In fact, the unit dries large items (large comforters, etc.) more thoroughly than my previous Samsung did because it dries them from edge to center without having to pull the item out and unwad it. Having previously experienced using a non heat-pump combo unit that flat-out would not completely dry towels, the drying performance in this unit has been the biggest surprise. I've not yet done any dry-only loads (they only get wet when I wash them), but my loads since July have run between 1:51 - 3:00 (max) to wash, double rinse, and fully dry. Because the unit is recycling increasingly dehumidified warm air at high speed through the closed loop, I perceive that it dries more quickly than my previous traditional dryer. I'm certain that it dries more thoroughly, and because the air is warm (not hot) and dry, there's no static, no shrinkage, and I've safely used the drying feature on more delicate items that would've been damaged previously by the high heat that goes with traditional dryers. Can't say enough good about the machine, honestly. I love it!
@DennisJoy483 Жыл бұрын
Does the dryer function have different heat settings (low, medium, high)? If we wanted to dry something on high like a new t shirt to shrink it would that be possible?
@migbham1 Жыл бұрын
Excellent question! Not in the traditional sense. This dryer does get warm, but it dries by moving lots (and I mean LOTS) of warm dry air repeatedly through the unit, but the air isn't hot enough to damage delicates. The heat settings are basically heat on (which is safe for all fabrics), or no heated dry. I doubt you'd be able to shrink a T-shirt in it.

Even dryers with filters will clog with lint over time. How do you get inside the unit to clean any lint out?
@migbham1 Жыл бұрын
Hey there. Sorry for the delay in responding. Definitely still loving our unit, but after a couple of months of use, I can say with some confidence that people who buy these, but who aren't aware of the tendency of lint to accumulate, are going to have trouble. The design of the lint clean out, I'm betting, will be revised, and clogged coils are going to be a common failure mode for some folks. To your question - there are a few things I do in order to keep my coils lint-free, and the trouble is still less (to me, anyway) than having separate units. When I remove the filter to clean, I always take my little battery powered Dyson (hangs right next to the appliance) and run it around the edge of the filter frame. Lint seems to collect on that soft rubber. It comes right off in a jiffy, but pushing the thing back in without cleaning that seal is likely to knock the lint loose so that it can be sucked into the fins. Probably most importantly, I have one of those long dusters that is made for cleaning blinds and such. It has a handle and then a flexible length of about 2 feet that is covered with microfiber. Each time I clean the filter, before putting it back in, I poke the duster in all the way to the back and then pull it out along the path of the filter channel. This pulls out any lint that has not collected in the filter so that it doesn't get sucked up into the fins. I've checked several times with a bright flashlight and so far haven't gotten any lint on the fins. In case that does happen, I have one of those long flexible attachments meant to vacuum under appliances that I'll connect to my vacuum and reach in there and get it. You can probably tell by my reply that I've put more thought than the average laundry do-er will put into preventing lint build-up on the fins. I don't really see any obvious way to remove the top cover if they ever REALLY need to be cleaned. Seems very little doubt that they are going to clog quickly for folks who aren't aware of the design issue. I still can't say that knowing this going in would've prevented me from making the purchase, but it would've made me think a bit longer. It certainly has prevented me from recommending the unit to several folks in my real life (parents, a sister, partner's parents) because I know these folks well enough to be sure that they won't deal well with the maintenance I've described here. How's it going for you?
@thinktoomuchb4028 Жыл бұрын
@@migbham1 Thanks for the info. I've got an LG combo circa 2008 that needs replacing. It has a condenser type dryer. The air is blown through an electric heater into the drum, then into a plastic tube that has ridges near the bottom. A bit of cold water is used to keep the tube cool, so the water condenses out of the hot humid air as it cools in that tube. The water is then pumped to a drain. It takes about 2 1/2 hrs to dry, but there is no lint filter to clean. However, after 4 years, give or take, that tube clogs with lint. You need to take off the top, unscrew the blower motor and pull out all the lint. Was thinking of getting the GE... but the LG lasted so long. The new LG version has increased capacity in about the same footprint. The GE is a bigger machine, but promises shorter drying times and should be more efficient. Not sure yet.
@migbham1 Жыл бұрын
@@thinktoomuchb4028 Having used the LG in several Airbnb rentals, I can tell you for certain that the GE dries infinitely more completely than the older models without the heat pump. As long as you're aware of the need to dust the lint filter channel out once in awhile, it does a flawless job, even on my pillow top king mattress topper, which I previously had to wash in my garden tub. 😳 The footprint is about the same as the LG, but the unit is maybe 7 inches taller because of the heat pump. It's quite a bit heavier, also. Other than the design issue with the lint filter, the thing appears to be made incredibly well, and mine was made here in the US. Good luck to you!
@thinktoomuchb4028 Жыл бұрын
@@migbham1 Thanks. I never had a problem with drying... until the tube clogged with lint. Once cleaned, it was fine again. Clothes come out much like how users describe for the GE combo: a bit damp, but just give 'em a shake and they're okay. It's still 2 1/2 hrs to dry (3 1/2 hrs is total wash/dry time), so the GE would save me about an hour, it seems.
@One-Day-After-Another Жыл бұрын
with standard dryers... the reason this happens is usually the vent where the dryer exists gets clogged causing lint to build up in the dryer because of poor airflow... the dryer should get minimal lint inside as long and there's always good airflow to the outside... not sure about these types of dryer... I second using a vacuum or anything you can get in there to keep that lint filter and the surrounding area clean WITHOUT damaging anything... Just do it carefully.. I always keep a bagged small vacuum in my laundry room because laundry creates dust...
