Very useful, thank you. And your tape idea is something the mfr should take to heart as almost all the negative reviews seem to point to drying getting worse over time. Collecting on the heat pump would do that 100%. So great job.

I was a bit skeptic, when this machine first came out. My wife really wants one of these machines but I've just been hung up on the idea that the lint would get past the trap and into the other components of the machine. However, even after 1 year, it seems that you are still quite happy with the machine! That weather seal trick seems to solve the issue. I appreciate the updated video and review!

I intentionally scheduled out the delivery for 2 months out so I could mull over my decision between the Samsung(my favorite), the LG, and this… I’m pretty comfortable with my decision now after this video. We purchase this Ultrafast back in June and I had seen about the lint trap modifications others had posted. I used a 1 inch foam door seal on the back from one of the video’s and that compress’s into that back cut out and has stopped a lot of lint buildup in that area of the trap. Before you would have quite a bit of buildup in that cut and really hard to clean it out without those lint brushes or vacuum adapter. The video with the foam seal also had thin door seal for top and bottom. So far i have not put that modification in play, however just might after watching your video or least the top seal. Still surprised GE has not issued an update lint trap with a compressible gasket seal around that entire lint trap. Too many video’s addressing this problem and CRICKETS from GE to give customer service! Would go along way that GE is supporting the customer with such an update and showing concern! Nice review after 1 year of ownership. Nice presentation and delivery! Keep us updated!

I've had this machine for a year as well. I love the convenience. It's just my husband and myself so unless I'm doing spring or fall cleaning, I can get away with only 1 or 2 loads of laundry a week. No more forgetting clothes in the washer overnight! I will have to implement the fix on the filter. I clean mine after every use, but even with a vacuum adapter it's hard to reach all the nooks and crannies in the area where the filter sits. I think that design could be better to make it more accessible. Overall I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Good review. Thanks for doing it.

Great review. Well done. I had an LG version many years ago and LOVE the convenience of not transferring clothes. You get use to shaking out the clothes and the plus is wrinkles are less an issue (admittedly I am not overly particular). Plus, they are more effective at cleaning and gentler on clothes. I am in the process of remodeling and will be getting two units. Not a cheap solution but saves time and makes laundry more of a joy.

Nice video. We have had this unit since April 2024. So 90 days as I post this. This unit has saved us about $150 a month on our power bill since April. I clean the lint trap filter or what ever you call it after every cycle. Have not done the filter upgrade but it will happen soon. G E knows they have a problem with the lent filter. This washer/dryer has been out over a year now and they have done nothing to fix this problem.

Have had mine nearly as long and for the first time ever I am free from the drudgery of laundry. I don’t have a schedule any more and everything gets washed and put away so no laundry piles up. It washes better than any machine I’ve ever had and I always have bought high end. Really curious how everyone else is liking it or not. Our laundry closet has a 2 story vertical run for the dryer vent, the primary reason for trying this machine because it was up to me to clean it twice a year because paying a professional to do it was $400+ a pop and most workers refused to go on the roof. The lint trap works great for us, no more maintenance than the old dryer lint trap and is a bit easier because I don’t have to bend down to get it out. I have the identical lint spots on the inside and didn’t add any gasket - I suspect only that one small area gets lint on it and it doesn’t look any different from week 2 to nearly a year later so I don’t expect any problem from it. Dries everything every time so I’m happy thus far. The controls are simple and visible and don’t lack anything. I can glance down the hallway upstairs and see the color of the dial to know it it’s still washing or nearly dried, and my Apple Watch alerts me when it’s 5 minutes left and finished. I’m excited to see competition out there now but GE put everything at eye level and made it all work well, I haven’t seen anything better yet. This thing is so wonderful it could die every five years and I”d just replace it because it’s given me my valuable time back. It just works. Toss in laundry, shut door, push button, come back and it’s all fluffy and warm and wrinkle free whether it’s just finished or has been tumbling on wrinkle care for hours.

I just got one of these machines on a recommendation while in a time crunch to move into a different place that didn't have pre-existing hookups, but managed to get something in place for a machine like this. At this moment in time I haven't had a chance to see if GE ever did anything to fix this issue. I know with my old Blueair HEPA filters, they have a built in gasket around their filters to make an airtight seal and ensure the filter is as effective as possible. One way to spot the fakes off of Amazon is they are missing stuff like this gasket and don't seal up to the unit they are supposed to. But with outfits like GE it seems they never thought to seal up their filter in the first place when lint and air conditioning coil fins don't mix well, so will definitely be looking into this on a brand new unit and see what all I need to do for a proper seal. It just makes sense and avoids problems down the road.
@ChaJ67
@ChaJ67 5 ай бұрын
Looking at things in more detail, I think I can see the flaw. While there are seals in key areas, they are along two different axis's. The problem is the seal on the lint trap to keep air inside the machine from mixing with the outside is a snug fit and looks to push the rear seal away from the stops that it mates up with. So seeing it cannot make full contact, the main filter seal cannot mate up with the surface it is supposed to mate up with and thus lent can blow by and get into the air conditioning coils. A bit of a brain damaged design to be quite frank. Really, should have a flexible hing like deal so that when air is moving through the filter, it can move independent of the outer handle and seal up properly with the air pressure pushing it against the surface it is supposed to mate up with to create a seal. The filter body fits loosely into the machine besides the tight fit at the outer end mentioned above, so the method of putting thin foam tape around it should create a seal around the outside instead of relying on the failed seal in the back.
@ChaJ67
@ChaJ67 4 ай бұрын
I picked up some weatherizing foam tape at the local hardware store. I put it around the filter, creating a nice seal around it. Did a load of towels. On post inspection the surface of the coils looked clean. The towels were perfectly dry. A fair amount of lint in the trap from the towels, but far less than a traditional gas dryer. It seems this problem is actually pretty easy to fix. You really don't want those coils clogged with lint and the design of the lint filter is simply flawed, but correctable. This is a brand new machine, so it is not like the original problem was fixed. It is not. You need to take immediate action.

I have this washer. I’ve had it for four months now and I have absolutely no problems with mine because I’ve literally watched over and over again every single video that’s out there and I have a maintenance routine. I was surprised when you pulled out the filter and it had all of that lint on it. When the manual says to clean the filter after every wash You also get a notification on screen that ask you, did you clean the filter? You must be bypassing it. I clean the lint filter after every wash. I also wipe my door seal out because lint does collect there. I do that after every load. Every 2 to 3 weeks maybe I will get my vacuum and I vacuum out the compartment where the lint filter is and the coils with the soft brush. And about every two months, I will empty the filter at the bottom and get any lint that has built up there That sounds like a lot, but it’s really not once you get into a routine. This machine cost too much money not to.

It took the technician about 4-5 hours. The technician ran the machine to get it to reset. After it finished, I got the fault code 354. We ran a small load of laundry and now will not go into drying mode and giving the error code 353. I cleared the fault code and tried to run another small load. The 353 error is often caused by a clogged lint filter. Make sure that you are washing both the gray mesh filter AND the black foam filter. They can get clogged with fabric softener residue and small pieces of lint. Ge has a video on their KZbin channel showing how to wash them. When clean,, you should easily be able to see through the mesh filter when held up to light.

I don't have this model... but I have had a front load washer since 2005... It doesn't have the auto dispense... One thing I'm wondering about with the auto dispense on any washer model that has it is this: Ok, so when I'm done doing laundry... one of the things I do is take the detergent tray out and dump the residual water that collects in it... and I place it on top of the washer completely out of its compartment so air can flow through there....but it looks like this wouldn't be possible in cases where there is an auto dispense.. I also made the mistake YEARS and YEARS ago .. I thought my machine broke because there was a small stream of water coming down the bottom of the door...I learned that if any lint/crud collects on that window it breaks the seal... so I make sure to keep that clean and it's never leaked again.

My clothes are periodically really wet (not shake dry wet) and they almost always smell like mildew even when removed immediately after a drying cycle. i have a GE ultrafast that i enjoy, but there is one gotcha that i don't think any channel has addressed yet: it's not lint, but we had to have a service visit and the tech ordered new lint filters for us. i'm NOT talking about the black removable filter, but the actual lint filter housing. for some reason, the mesh developed a build up that blocked airflow and was degrading drying performance. i don't know what it is, maybe it's some kind of fabric softener residue? we scrubbed it clean while waiting for new filters to arrive (was quite a bit of an effort) and it brought it back to normal, but something to keep an eye on.

6:37 that right there is a deal breaker for me. Not spending a fortune to then have to deal with that nonsense. That's just typical incompetence from those who designed the appliance.

To sum up my other comment on this with a new mache (August of 2024), the design of the lint filter is flawed, causing it to not seal properly on these units. The air conditioning coils wringing the moisture out of the air and thus the clothes don't work when clogged with lint and thus your clothes won't dry. My solution for now at least has been to pick up weatherization foam tape from the local hardware store and put it around the lint trap, creating a nice seal around the lint trap. So GE never fixed this root cause of clothes not drying. It is stupid really as it shouldn't be hard to get this right. But you can do something that will really help and it is cheap and easy to do: create your own seal with foam tape. It is vitally important you do this right away with your machine.

I'm not going to knock it because these things haven't been around long enough to prove their longevity in America either though Europeans use something similar. At the moment I find it more cost-effective to have two separate units for washing and drying as I like the idea of being able to dry clothes in 10 minutes. Energy efficiency is none of my concern because power in America is not even remotely close to being expensive. Now a space was a problem I might consider one of these.

@@NaterTater Wait til it needs parts that are back ordered for 8 weeks. The arrestors are a must with this machine. Good suggestion. The constant valve cycling of the mixer valve will eventually rattle loose piping in the walls and rupture supply lines.

Yes but both times I was left with a load of laundry in a pool of water. First time I flooded garage. The technology is just not there…they almost got it but it’s a miss. My wife hates it because delicates are so easily wrinkled. Repair guy said the same thing…he said I’ll be waiting for the next model because he is seeing a lot of issues.
