I was about to comment my point of view about Lion on facebook after it was released but I was afraid that haters will find another reason to bash Soyeon and (G)I-DLE. Their common issue about this group is cultural appropriation. I was thinking if some catholics like myself will comment negatively because of the idea but, well for me it was nothing because I listen to Lady Gaga's songs. Maybe, but this song is telling another story as well. A story of a little girl with a big dream who fought for her future. She desire to a singer, a rapper, a dancer, an idol. She been rejected, refused, avoided. Important people told her that She was unpretty, bad singer, luck of skills. But she didn't quid. She work hard to improve, put herself on diet, studied. Finally She had few chances, but nobody help her, nobody told her that she was good or talented. They put her in a group of girls like her as leader but for months the debut been postpone, nobody made a song for them. So she made the song. In shows like Queendom important groups have composers and producers to make a song, she was producing her own song at 4.30 am trying to be in time for the show. That song was Lion. She is a Lion. On stage, elevated by the support of her group mates, her voice, her rap, her song, nobody can denied anymore that She is a Queen.

Not related to Jeanne, but I love the evolution of their outfits throughout the video. They start very bare, very "animal", then move to a modern rendition of regal outfits, and then its the red jumpers which are very inspired by Tudor dresses, and then boom, full on skirts with the Tudor look. Wow we don't see french culture and history a lot in K-POP ! :D I don't get that people often complains when K-POP MVs have other cultures influences and inspirations but here no one said anything. It's interesting to see an interpretation like this. They approach Jeanne d'Arc's history in a quiet unique way. Another explanation about the title and on how idle got the title 'Lion' was because Lion are feirce and the lyrics kinda explained about the Lion King. Soyeon never got to watch the Live Action of Lion King so she titled it Lion because she never got to watch the Lion King. uwu

Should also note that the image you shows at 1:36 is a very akin to the Buddhism imagery of when the Buddha said, I alone am the world honored one. This is different from most images of Joan of Arc where she carried a weapon or the flag post... here she is in a dress and not carrying any weapon. This is perhaps even more of a statement that g idle stands alone.
