My brother had the GI Joe talking Marine. Alas, it did not survive his little brother...me. I wanted to find out how it talked. So I totally disassembled and removed the talk box. Though I found out how he talked, today, I dare not tell my brother how much that toy is worth.

Hasbro used to put a lot of effort into their toys. You can see the love the designers had for the product they worked on back then. (And I love the R. Lee Ermey audio clip in there.)

Excellent editing as usual Tony. I'm piecing a 1964 Marine back together that once belonged to a cousin my mother grew up with and played with the figure outside as kids. Like us, he has seen too much combat and needs to be cared for better.

A great video covering the G.I.Joe marine line. I am lucky enough to have almost all the line, though many of my figures and accessories are repros from the 40th Anniversary Timeless line. I COULD buy all vintage, but I like being married. 🙂

Back in 1965 my brother and I got GI Joe for Christmas. He got the Marine and I got the soldier. A decade later at Marine boot camp in San Diego a pair of 12" GI Joe Action Soldiers were training aids in our final first aid tests. I even was lucky enough to meet the designers at the Gi Joe Collectors Club convention in Walt Disney World's Contemporary Resort during 2004. Can't seem to get away from that 12" man!

Great feature! This range gave us accessories for years to come at Palitoy.A few points-- The bayonets were repurposed with rounded ends later for toy safety reasons, the mortar was also a problem as with most firing models. The backpack was also a bit out of date for Vietnam. The Marines always seemed to take pride in using army customs and the backboard was widely used, (and bl#*dy uncomfortable). Good that you featured the Code talkers. Interestingly a number of tribes were featured in this role in WW1. A few years ago the US Mint commemorated this fact by issuing a coin set with regard to this fact. There was stuff in this feature that I have never seen before so it was a real education for me. Thanks again, great research.

Do you have any of the GI Joes from the late 90s, early 2000s? I love that they made all branches of the military but one they never made was the 65th infantry Borinqueniers, some of my grand uncles fought with the 65th and I did a few years as a volunteer taking care and helping veterans in a hospital, reading for them, helping nurses feed them and taking care of they're bed ulcers, most of these veterans were from the 65th, I wish GI 🧔🏻♂️ JOE made a figure for them or maybe I'll make my own custom.

The Marine camo poncho was available as a stand alone item, stitched to the smaller equipment card like the Marine Basics or M60 Machine gun. Also, although the Marine dress uniform is the most eye catching, the Air Force dress uniform and the Navy "Cracker Jack" uniform from the Shore Patrol set were released at the same time. Finally, I would argue that the Marine, as well as Soldier, Sailor and Pilot are definitely rooted firmly in the post Korean War era. The Action Pilot gives the game away due to the rigid crash helmets, g-suit, and USAF dress uniform, and other accessories such as the M1 carbine with curved magazine, M65 field jacket, and M3 smg that saw limited use in WWII due to being produced in far fewer numbers than the M1A1 Thompson all supporting my assertion. The camo uniform itself might be what is known as Beo Gam from the Vietnam period due to the bright red spots in the pattern.

So you want me to come on your channel but you start your comment by implying that I haven’t been making toy videos for while? I never stopped making vintage toy videos and in the last 6 months alone I’ve made 8 in-depth Action Man / GI Joe videos. If you’ve missed this type content from my channel then it’s because you haven’t been paying attention.

@@AnalogToys Misunderstood, I like this format and the original old school stuff you do is what I meant if that makes sense? Like when you do the vintage Star Wars and the Action Man 3 3/4 scale versus the new stuff like the 1/12 scale. I'm old school so just really can't get into the newer lines like GI Joe classified, etc. Didn't mean for it to sound that way.

Great review. However, Hasbro should have had the paratrooper set be for the Action Soldier and the Action Sailor should have been a Corpsman. Surprising oversight on their part considering how carefully they researched their sets.

Why didn't you just retrieve the rifle from the card and left everything else intact till you came across an Action figure that needed dressing. Can't beat the vintage stuff. Built to last. 3 days ago I picked up an Action man Officer cadet boxed by Art and Science Hasbro. Mint condition. Still fastened to the card. Watched a few reviews of this action figure that it was incomplete. Yet the one I bought was. It comes with belt holster pistol badge on beret and I'm very pleased with it. I also came across a Deep water salvage uniform still in it's package and a small bag of weapons rifles etc in silver. Not yet sure what action figure they go with as I'm only just starting collecting. It's like a drug. No sooner you pick up 1 or 2 figures you want to go out a buy another the next day

Great video Dave! Always look forward to seeing your uploads. Like getting Action Man in the U.S., I'd assume getting the G.I. Joe Marines was a hard task where you are? My only nit-pick is that at 7:00 you claimed that the marine dress blues were the first/only dress fatigues until the cadets. The Action Soldier M.P. sports a U.S. Army dress uniform without cap, the Action Pilot had a set of Air Force dress fatigues, And the Action Sailor Shore Patrol had a set of Navy winter dress blues that (If I remember right) at the time acted as both Dress and Work uniforms. (May have been just for dress use by the 40s/50s, can't remember...)

"A Marine Paratrooper and a Marine Medic" Ummm? I think somebody in design failed to ask enough questions. (For those not getting it, the Marines do not have Paratroopers. It's kind of the exact opposite of their purpose. They go in by sea. And for some odd quirk of history and tradition, Marines do not have Medic's. Instead they use embedded Navy Corpsmen. All Medical Personnel are Navy not Marines.)
