I’ve heard Gulfstream does not allow sim recreations of their aircraft. Not sure why but I’ve been told that several times. Was this allowed because its freeware? Sim world really needs some long range biz jets - this looks pretty authentic visually!

That rumor has been floating around for at least 15+ years now. Maybe that long ago they cared, but they never contacted me about it. From my dealings with Gulfstream in my professional work I’ve found they care very little about their aircraft except their current production line. So I would say it’s probably pretty safe to do anything G550 and older. Even a G650 might be ok, since they’ve now decided to replace it also. Just my personal opinion though.

I considered it a while back, but have decided against it. The time required isn’t worth the reward. As much as I enjoy the flight sim and making mods, it’s just not worth the time to invest.

@@BuildItBetter3D Lots of hours I’m sure. I just typed in the IV, sitting a month now waiting for 1st tour assignment. Long-time simmer (MFS & P3D) my wife swears I only became a real pilot so my simming would improve lol. Sadly, there’s just no study- level quality long range corporate jets for sim. Hard to believe there wouldn’t be a market for it, but maybe I’ll get Xplane11 and have a little fun with this fine IV.

There’s a market but it’s small. For a study quality aircraft it’s easily years to build, and that time investment is hard to give. Plus there is constant changing to sims and hardware so you have to be willing to continually support your product for years when changes to the sim break what you’ve done. If you’re looking into buying x-plane 11 I might suggest waiting just a bit. They just announced x-plane 12 and if you wait a bit then you can get both for the price of one.

Hi I am trying to set LNAV right now for a pretty long flight but it won't work even when I have the flight plan in the FMC I don't want to keep on turning on my own especially during a long flight please help

You need to select the GPS1 source for the autopilot to follow the fmc. The Source can be selected using a knob under the pilots side window.

I fly with a yoke and rudder pedals. You can get lots of suggestions and others experience at x-plane.org. I don't really have any book suggestions, there is a lot of good resources out there. As for learning the Gulfstream specifically, there is little info to be had for free or cheap. Companies pay thousands of dollars to send their pilots to training centers to get rated in the Gulfstream so info is hard to find.

No, but if the plug-in is working then auto throttle should not exceed rpm. Do you get engine shutdown if you over speed for 60 seconds? If no, then the plug-in isn’t working and you might have a conflict somewhere.

I'm having issues when I set flaps to full. Plane feels like it's incredibly tail heavy. Full down trim and full forward seems to only give nose down at 130 knots when it stalls over. What am I missing?

Gulfstreams always fly with a nose up attitude. On approach it'll be around 3-5 degrees. Maintain your decent rate using throttle. Here is a video showing this plane doing a landing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4qlhIFjgLSCaNE

@@BuildItBetter3D It wasn't that, it was something to do with the flight model setting. I changed it to 10 readings a second and it flies better now. A little nose up is right, but this was going 60 degrees nose up until it stalled as soon as I dumped full flaps.

Do you know how to maintain the altitude on this GIV and keep constantly climbing? Mine starts to sink after handing the control over to the autopilot. My targeted altitude is at 43000 ft and even if I manually correct the pitch of the aircraft the autopilot puts it back to negative....

Make sure you are in the correct mode. If you target 43000 and are below it you need something to get you to 43 before it will capture. This can be hand flying, vert speed, etc. If you want it to fallow the FMS to the flight plan alt then you need to be sure the autopilot is set to fms and not nav.

Okay, so far so clear. And where do I see the current autopilot source? On the left hand side is a small knob where I can set a source to NAV or GPS, but setting it to GPS doesn’t seem to have the targeted effect. How do I teach the autopilot to follow the flight plan then? 🤔

Once you have set that knob to gps you then need to turn the autopilot on and tell it what part of the flight plan to fallow using the autopilot panel in the center of the glare shield. The default x-plane autopilot is still what is being used so you should be able to use its manual to know what selections to make to get your desired results.

You are over speeding the engines. They don’t have fadec so you need to manually watch and keep the rpms under 100 percent. There should be warning tones and red messages on the cas screens telling you about it.

@@BuildItBetter3D Thanks for your answer. I had the same problem, I couldn't get any airspeed after takeoff, and the plane always crashed. Now with the throttle back a little, I can fly well. Now I need to work on landings.

It should work the same as everything else. You do need to make sure it's armed before you hit the mark or you'll fly past it.

Probably. But it would take A LOT of work and you would end up with a worse version of it.

FSX and X-Plane share nothing in common between flight models and most everything else, the conversion would be almost as difficult as creating a new one.

It's located on your map settings panel below the left window. There is a switcher below WXR button turn it from NAV1 to GPS1 then turn on LNAV.
