G&L 1000 Unboxing and first thoughts

This bass has the soul of a Precision Bass with the edginess of a Jazz bass... All around a really solid bass... Who knows maybe one day ill have a 5 string version.

I bought my L1000 in 1983, still plays great. Most often played with tone controls up and toggle down. Sounded great through Fender Bassman 70 with 15 inch speaker cab.

I think my favourite tone on this is parallel with the bass cut by about 50% and the treble at about 25% cut. It gives the classic rock sound that I love.

I was fortunate enough to find a 1981 G&L L1000 a year ago after letting an L2000 get away from me . Won't make the same mistake twice . You really seemed to like the CLF version , though .

Those USA G&L basses are sooooo nice. I prefer the L-2000 cuz of the insane bridge pickup sounds you can get. Those pickups are like nothing else. Thanks for the video, man. Cheers from NYC.

It’s like P, J , and MM bass all in one. Super cool. I have an LB-100. I’m a big fan of G&L if you want something traditional but a little different. IMO the best bridges out there with how you can tighten the saddles together to get endless sustain.

I bought mine in 1982! It kicks over the P bass!!!! I did put flats on mine! After so many years, I no longer play bass so I sold it!!?? Hurt my mind giving so many great memories away!!!

My L-1000 is my favorite passive 4 stringer. Huge tone, and I like that it’s somewhat unique and not everyone has one. It’s like a super P bass with crazy tonal options for such a simple setup.

Looks and sounds great!! I’m very impressed with G&L and I have to say that the CFL L2500 series 750 model has the most incredible tone I’ve ever heard in a bass. I’m surprised these basses aren’t more popular, they’re really a hidden gem.

I love my L-2500. It's my #1 bass, so many tonal options in one place! It is a little more complicated than the L-1000/1500, but once you get it, you GET it. Great video!

I just got mine last week. The toggle in the OMG position (all the way down), bass cut all the way and treble cut about 30-50% really reminds me of my P.

Bully I bought the L-1000 CLF Research version over a year ago. I love it so much I went and bought a L-2000. The L-1000 is definitely closer to a Fender Precision. You put a different take on OMG mode that sounds so cool 😎. All the best from Western Australia 🇦🇺

I've played in a half dozen of these at different points and I've never heard them make a sound I don't like. One will definitely find it's way into my tone arsenal before long!

The G&L Bass bridge has a feature called the "Saddle Lock". A small Allen Screw is on the side of the bridge you use to lock the saddles together.

I was guessing the switch would select some kind of split coil p-bass style configuration. This seems like a Stingray but with the pickup in the p-style location.

Thanks for the demo. Just watching your face while you hit a few sorta says it all about this CLF L1000. I've been looking at this since they brought it out, and finding myself in a windfall, their Matcha Green or Tobacco Burst L1000...goodgawd, drawing me in pretty fast. Had a G&L SB-2T ordered from Fullerton, to my spec, since 2014, and its just got that thing too. Going round and round to find a P style, and seems I always come round to G&L. Fantastic options (no where else seems to) and good price for a high quality instrument that doesn't let you down either. Right on BT.

So how do you like it compared to a Music Man bass? I was a Music Man player for decades, I always thought G&L basses were similar but had a smoother pickup, more options. But every time I would try an L-1000 in the store the strings were dead.
