just taken delivery of a USA L1000 - in the past I have had a L2000 tribute , and both a USA Fender P and a USA jazz - all good, but the L1000 is the best bass I have ever had - I play all types of music, rock, C&W and others- the L1000 handles the lot with ease and many nice complimets on both looks and sound . . . . thanks leo - you da man . . .u make me sound as though I can play good ;)

Love this so much... A nice clean top similar to the L-1500 would be great... understand the legacy, but would love G&L's regular scrolled head on it. Meanwhile, loving my spec SB-2T from Fullerton since 2014. Having a "Super P" is really tempting.

Less talking more playing!!! And yes, chill on the slapping. And what’s the rush? Slow down a little when your playing. Sweet bass though 👍🏻

What is "Humbucking Mode" on the toggle switch? would that be parallel, series and single coil modes?

I have a 1982 model. Before G&L had to change the headstock. It is amazing for recording because of the deep bass - but I prefer a P or J for live music.

It irritates me that most of the bass reviews on KZbin seem designed to show off the reviewers chops. Yes, you're great guys, but I want to hear what the bass sounds like, not how fast you can play. How about some slow scales and arpeggios, so we can hear the attack and decay of each note?

Steve's demos are not that good most of the time IMO. It's mostly random non-musical noodling, and the tone is usually on the thin, clanky, fretbuzzy side. I'd recommend Ed Friedland's demos to Steve's any day. Not sure why G&L doesn't up the quality of these demos. Steve's been doing this schtick for years.

I am torn between finding an older 80's model of going for a new model. Can you give me some a solid recommendation on what the main difference is ?
@halcyo3 жыл бұрын
First one that pops in my head is the new ones have graphite reinforcement rods in the neck, which makes them WAY more stable and resilient to bending/warping, especially with humidity and temp changes when you travel around with one! I own one of these new ones, and it's my #1 bass. It has a huge tone, and I can get bright and snappy or CRAZY bass in the OMG mode. In OMG mode, there's so much extra low end that I actually turn the bass knob DOWN a bit and still have a huge fat tone.

@@halcyo Yes I ended up grabbing one too. It’s amazing. Glad I got the CLF.

Having a hard time picking from a L-1000 or a Kiloton right now.
@kirkbolas49854 жыл бұрын
Superficially its looks remind me of the MM Stingray. Tonally it’s a different critter altogether, in part as I reckon where the pickup is parked makes most of the difference.
@handidrummed4 жыл бұрын
yes. The G&L Kiloton has the pickup in the same spot as a Stingray. This one is in the same position as a p-bass.

I still can't tell what this bass sounds like. 99% of my playing is with my FINGERS! I'm worn out with SLAP DEMOS!! And, for my money, this is not the ideal slap bass so why don't you highlight the instruments long suite. That would be the groove or rock.

Why. WHY are the vintage L1Ks half the price of new ones?
@halcyo3 жыл бұрын
The vintage ones were awesome, but I've heard that a good number of them have wonky necks. The new ones have graphite reinforced necks which give modern stability. Probably a better choice for reliability's sake. The vintage ones are also cheap because not that many folks know how nice this bass really is. It's kind of Leo's forgotten super P bass.

The best sounding g and l bass but like all the others it still has that annoying rattling sound.I think it could be the bridge.
@rednoise05 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. My L-2000 does it, too, and I hear it in most of the videos of G&L basses. I've never been able to dial it out with any standard neck or bridge adjustment. It's not really audible in an ensemble context, but solo'ed it's distracting. I can't imagine why G&Ls would be more susceptible than any other Fender-type bass, but they are. It sounds more like a fret thing than a bridge thing... but why?? Frets is frets. Is a puzzlement.
@cubby67085 жыл бұрын
David Jones my L2500 does have hints of it. I just roll my low ups and mids down. That rattling setting is best for slapping, but I feel need more girth with a bit more miss to cut throw most band situations.
@Crushin1235 жыл бұрын
That is THE reason i cringe at the Stingrays (and those alike by EBMM) - all i hear is clack cl cl cla clack clack. Drives me crazy. This L-1000 sounds decent in comparison - a bit too hi-fi for me personally, but meh...id be ok with one. :)

I really wish videos about basses featured players who aren't trying to be riffy guitar players. The bass doesn't sound really any different to another unless they actually play it as a rhythm instrument. It's not a guitar, so don't bother with riffy stuff. Ok, we get you can do noodly stuff on a bass. Okay, you'd rather be a guitarist. Please pass the bass to a bass player. Otherwise it's no use to anyone in a band. Also, why is it not being demonstrated playing a solid rhythm line played with a pick/plectrum? These things just seemed to be aimed at armchair players and not anyone who needs a bass to be a functional, practical instrument. Is this a good gigging bass? I have no idea. This whole video is like 'Hey, we've invented this drill' and then proceeds to not show us how the drill actually works as a drill :-/ Sorry, but every bass manufacturer just makes the same kind of video and there's no real way of telling them apart as instruments.

I would love a G and L but just about all of them have that awful string raspy rattle sound.
@halcyo3 жыл бұрын
I have one of these, and mine is not raspy or rattley on the strings. It's possible his action is just really low. Mine is thick and meaty. That punch you right in the chest bass tone.
@01frugalbassist852 жыл бұрын
@@halcyo I ordered a CLF L2500 3 months ago, and after setting it up with DR Fat Beams, and leaving the treble at 15%, mine has no raspy "zing" at all. I believe that it's a simple matter of the nickle silver frets, EB roundwounds and a pre-amp/ MFD humbucker config that will knock your 🧦 off! Also, from G&L factory, the strings sit too close to the pick-ups for my liking. The strings even touch the magnets when I palm mute near the bridge and near the neck. Talk about unwanted noise! So after lowering the p'ups a bit, all is good. This bass really is a beast! It also has tons of natural character in passive-series mode.
@robertr87012 жыл бұрын
Too much slapping 🙄 At least do a little of everything, slap, finger style and, pick. You don't really get a good feel for how a bass sounds with slapping.
