I do think it's the ultimate P-bass, in the sense that it represents the culmination of Leo Fender's thinking on the matter. Love that it's passive, but that you can get many tones out of it.

Great question! This is definitely an old-school P-Bass type neck. Slightly deeper than the more modern P necks, but not too chunky.

Nice Review. Prior to December 22nd, 2022 I had very little interest in G&L...... Now, the Model you're Holding will be my next purchase. I DO hope to find one with a much more highly figured piece of Ash as the Basses I've found in the past 48 hours are fairly plain.......but Absolutely Bassilicious. ✌

You know how I have felt about these basses for years. I have a vintage 1980 and a CLF. The new CLF’ comes with the neck plekked also. Why nobody else does that I’ll never know.

I didn’t realize it was plekked. The notes do sound great across the whole fretboard.

I thinks its too full spectrum. You hit the nail of what I am hearing on all these basses. Maybe that field design goes beyond what is useful for bass because they sound buzzy to me.

Absolutely agree....it lacks the focused warmth and clarity of a p bass. Too many overtones and a certain edge to each note.

I have a G&L 2000 tribute and I solo the neck pickup. It's a cool sound, but for the life of me I cannot get this bass to sit in the mix. I can cut through the mix especially if I cut the bass and treble back. There's always and inherent tone that is unfocused with lots of overtones. This character is too harsh; it's missing a certain focused warmth. This has held true for me in different bands and rooms; through different effects, amps, and cabs; pick and finger style; and multiple types of strings. In my experience, these basses are not effective at mimicking a P bass especially in a band setting. It's not the ultimate P Bass. This bass is its own thing. I bought it because I was hoping to have a different flavor of pbass. All of that aside, this is by far my favorite bass to play because of the fit, finish, and the neck is the perfect width and profile for me. I just can't let this bass go. It is a GREAT sounding bass when I'm not trying to use it to emulate a P Bass. Good review 👍
