You can also put a 45 degree bend on the string end and grab it when you feed it through

Great idea. I love the G&L locking saddle bridge but restringing is a pain

I have my new G&L ASAT on the way and I'll be changing out the strings when it gets here. Super useful tip! Thanks! 🎈

This is a very useful hack. I changed strings on my Asat Special and Fallout for years now and didn‘t have any ideal of how to catch the end of the string (other than trying to use my fingertip - painful version). Much appreciated!

Looks like a great idea. I’ve bent them in the past, but the string can roll to the side before crossing over the saddle. I think I’ll try the loop end of a bobby pin the next time I change strings. Thanks for planting the seed.

Thanks I have one really nice guitars but that is a little of a pain. I will try it next time just changed strings.

Even easier is to insert the new string about1 to 2 centimeters, bend it slightly upwards and then pull it all the way through. Due to the bend, the string will go over the bridge by itself.

Ooh. I'll have to try that.

sounds legit, feels like there's no need to avoid bending the string end since it will be cut anyway

Pretty cool thanks. That can work on other brands as well. I usually use needle nose players and it sucks.

I was using a pair of tweezers, but this looks easier. The tweezer method gets harder as the strings get lighter.

Thanks, Mike, for the great instruction. I'm planning to buy this model, and as a beginner in buying guitars, I wonder what are some other key differences it has from a traditional telecaster. Also, do you think it can be easily repaired by technicians that usually deal with fender guitars since G&L is particularly rare where I live. It would be nice if you help out!

Other than the bridge and the Jumbo MFD pickups, the ASAT special is essentially a Telecaster. General setup and maintenance should be no problem for a qualified guitar tech. But if the the pickups or the bridge ever need repair, you’re pretty much locked into G&L replacement parts. You might want to consider the ASAT Classic if you want the option to use aftermarket bridges or pickups.

Just slightly bend the first inch or so..slips over a treat..it gets trmmed off anyway..
