As far as I can tell G&L is basically Fender but slightly better, sometimes for less money. I have no complaints and if I was buying a bolt-on type guitar I would look at G&L models first.

@@paulscushschofield1288 I just got an ASAT Tribute Special, after doing research and trying to find a tele with p-90 style pickups. I am *so* happy with the quality of this guitar. Absolutely incredible. And I was unfamiliar with G&L until 3 months ago. They're the Fender-lover's secret!

@@kbadr I bought a G&L Tribute ASAT Special Deluxe (that's a mouthful) Those pickups are awesome! They're not P-90s and have almost the output of a P-90 but Jumbo MFDs are way brighter. P-90s always seem kind of dark and middy to me and at worst muddy. The G&L, on the other hand, is really punchy and bright, but not ice-picky like some teles can be. I can still get some passable tele tones out of the bridge but it's a completely different animal. Always in your face, punchy and bright, a total rock and roll machine that does double duty as a country guitar. Listen to Band of Susans they built their whole band around that pickup.

@@thomask.9850 no these are very heavy in general. Tribute are not the USA line. They will not be as good as this axe he played here. They are good versus same price point offers, by a lot, and some higher priced offers from Bigger players. On par with Fender Mexico if from Korea, and USA vs USA is what you like more preference wise, both are stellar at that level.

That's one sexy guitar. Sounds absolutely amazing especially with gain. Let's not forget G&L , was actually George Fullerton's and Leo Fender's company, after they sold to CBS. That's what the G&L stands for. In theory you're still getting a Fender guitar, complete with improvements to his own designs.

I wish I still had the 1980 G&L bass that I used to own. That thing weighed a TON, but sounded like the thunder of the gods. Since it was so low in the production run, it was actually hand signed by Leo Fener himself. Unfortunately, it was stolen after a UM frat party that my old band played, along with a bunch of other gear. Including a 66 Fender electric 12 and a 67 twin reverb. Both of which belonged to my late father. Sadly this all happened LOOONG before the advent of social media. Otherwise I might have actually gotten it back.

I love G&L guitars. I bought my firs one used about 4 years ago. A semi hollow ASAT Deluxe. Next I got a Fallout. I love the body design of the Fallout / SC-2's so much. It is a light comfortable guitar to play, with belly and arm carves loaded with either the Fallolut combo numbucker ./ P-90 or the SC-2 with the Jumbo MFD pickups. Since then I've aqired six more. My wife thinks I'm crazy but I lawys respond really do you need all those shoes too? I'm glad Leo is finally getting the respect he deserves. The G&L Models were evoulutions in technology and design. The quality is outstanding. It feels like you are dealing iwth the custom shop the way they can offer options on everything. It also feels like your dealing with Leo's shop from the 50's. I give so much credit to the McClaren brothers for keeping the leading edge on innovation and customer satisfaction the way Leo did. I have everything now from an F-100 qa Legacy two ASAT's a Skyhawk Two SC-3's Two SC-2's and I can't wait to get a commanche an S500 and an Espada.

There actually is something 'wrong' with the Fender Tele Input jack. Or - it's a least annoying... the cavity is too deep for a standard right-angle cable. So you gotta use a straight cable - awkwardly sticking out of the bottom edge of the guitar. Glad G&L has improved upon that.

Much agree with you because this whole modern day internet stuff. Pretty much everything is monkey see monkey do nowadays people can't develop their own opinions and they're always looking for other people's opinions on what's good and what's bad. I'm surprised G&L hasn't taken off like a rocket because of the internet but for some reason it hasn't. Like you said I kind of like that because now we're not going to have a bunch of posers jumping on. Just give it time though people will start realizing that these guitars are great

I own 3 G&Ls - 2 guitars and one bass. All purchased 2nd hand, and I consider them to be awesome value for money. Recommended! I keep reading the Tributes are very good as well, but haven't tried any.

Hey Phil! You wouldn't have to rout for a humbucker. Just drop a Hot Rail 'bucker in it! I've replaced the stock pickups in my Affinity Tele with Hot Rails and they sound great!

Old guy here, I don’t mind admitting that. Had a very early G&L, the original F-100 bought new in 1981 which was the company’s first guitar model. Three-bolt neck but NEVER an issue because the neck pocket fit was laser tight, a huge improvement over the often sloppy neck pocket cuts on Fenders at the time. I still am obsessive about neck pocket gaps in bolt-on guitars to this day! ;-)

Own two Skyhawks and an Invader from the mid 80’s with the 3 bolt, micro tilt necks. Love them. No issues whatsoever. Wish the still had the adjustable necks. Setups are so easy.

My sister has an F-100 Series II, I've got one of the first 12 or so silver sparkle Asats...my dad and his buddy were G&L collectors for many years, probably had 100 between the two of them. My dad had the only two left handed Broadcasters, his friend just sold one of his X body Interceptors for like 25 grand

The title of this vid is "why doesn't Fender do this". Well he actually did it, this guitar is designed by Leo Fender. The certificate is also signed by his wife 😅😅😅 If Leo didn't sell the company on '65, I'm sure Fender (brand) will release guitars similar to this ASAT guitars with MFD pickups, six saddle brass etc. Except if it's under Fender, the headstock shape will remain the same.

I currently own a Comanche Tribute and an ASAT Deluxe semi-hollow. I owned and foolishly sold a S500 Deluxe. All of my G&Ls are great guitars that blow away a Fender dollar for dollar. They are not identical, and the pups definitely have a different sound - similar but different and better.

when you buy a G&L your in Fender Custom Shop Territory. Why more artists dont use em baffles me. I own an ASAT Classic Rustic Tele thats absolutely amazing and got it for the same price as a 52 RI -no regrets here it's a far superior instrument.

ordered a G&L custom build 2 years ago prior to my second daughter being born. Got myself a nice ASAT classic in shell pink, spec'd to just how I like it and it also happened to be through music store live (they have yet to let me down). All for less than a Fender American Pro. It was perfect right out of the box and has stayed that way.

2 things are a turn off and hurt g&l popularity and therefore resale value.. #1. the headstock .. #2 the look of the pickups. --

That's too bad because I really like those things about G&L. The ASAT headstock is probably my least favorite of their offerings but it's not at all a bad looking headstock in my opinion. Their pickups (MFDs) are awesome and I like the fact that they look different because they ARE different.

The thing that irritates me the most about G&L is that they weren't really selling guitars until they put out Strat and Tele look alikes but I guess it's the consumers that really irritate me. If you want a Fender go buy a Fender. Their SC guitars were some of the best looking guitars ever in my opinion and if I had to describe the F-100 it would be this: Imagine the Strat is that hot girl at school and she goes away on summer vacation. When she returns she's put on a little bit of weight but she put it on in all the right places.
