I agree that his voice is more pleasant to listen to, but his intonation as well as his breath support is somewhat troubling. I'd rather listen to modern singers. (For his age it is absolutely excellent)

He may sound bad in some parts due to his age (worse breath support), but he sounds powerful, clean, heroic and manly overall, just like a god. Have you listened to his voice when he was younger? He was unrivaled.

Ciò che più impressiona e’ l’ampiezza della voce, il timbro e lo squillo…quell’Artista infinito arriva sul palco a 79 anni suonati, dopo aver fatto la Prima Guerra in trincea e dopo aver cantato per oltre 40 anni in ogni angolo del mondo un repertorio umanamente impossibile, dalla Boheme alla Forza del Destino, passando per il Guglielmo Tell e gli Ugonotti. Semplicemente mostruoso, un prodigio della natura e del perfetto imposto di voce.

Как не осталось? Берешь пишешь на анг. Lauri volpi и далее Recondita armonia (ищешь год не 22-ой 20-го века, а 1948 вроде). Потрясающее исполнение. Или тоже 40-х A te o cara

Первые звукосниматели с широким диапазоном появились где-то как раз в конце 40х в США, до этого запись была не в полном диапазоне. А записи до 1930х вообще делались без микрофона, там все еще хуже - в общем не сравнить с качеством записи во времена условного фон Караяна.

Отдельно замечу, что в 40х его голос был не на пике (а в общем-то хотелось бы услышать, как звучало "живой голос" в полном диапазоне, к примеру, в 20х.

Dammit I´m so totally speechless and astonished on the great awe impression that him being so old, at 80 or 79 years of age, sounds pretty much BETTER than a lot of singers much younger than him nowadays singing the role. (Not even Domingo, Pavarotti or Carreras acheived that!) And well, he was the very first Calaf singer too, so HE KNEW pretty well better than anyone HOW TO SING THE ROLE & ARIA in the proper best way!!!

Lauri-Volpi was quite old and closer to the original Calaf or there was some contemporary relationship about both doing the role historically which lead me into confusion, Anyway it´s so great to hear him still heroic on that age and better than a lot of modern tenors in their prime of youth but with weaker voices.

Quando ha cantato quest'aria aveva 80 anni tanto che al termine ha avuto uno sbandamento grazie Lauri Volpi..

Lo sbandamento l'aveva non per l'età ma perché fino a quel momento aveva raggiunto l'equilibrio nel corpo che gli permetteva di liberare la voce. Di fatto poco dopo aver concluso sbanda un momento perché "lascia" il sostegno (che innalza il corpo verso l'alto grazie al fiato) e riprende la sua posizione naturale. Capita a tutti, anche ai più giovani, anche a me che sono "solo" uno studente da qualche anno... È la grandezza e magnificenza dei grandi cantanti. Una voce come Lauri-Volpi, a quell'età, non credo la riavremo più. Un fenomeno puro.
