I’ve been going back and forth whether or not I wanna get this rod. My 844c probably my favorite rod and I can imagine the 843c is similar…i guess it’s mostly a matter of whether I wanna “replace” my 3 powered nrx for finesse jigs, etc.

Never had a NRX but the Conquest 843 is my favorite rod out of X-Ray H, MH, M, or Dobyns Xtasy 755, 723. Depending on what you consider finesse jigs, the Xtasy 723 is awesome for 1/4 oz, jigs and even lighter ned rigs, plus it handles treble hook baits great too. the Conquest 743c has more power and is more suited for 3/8-1/2 oz. jigs.

-3/16. and 1/4 oz Uoze swim jigs with ~3.3-3.8" keitech trailers -3/16 oz. 3/0 owner weedless rigged underspin with 3.8" keitech or 4" spark shad -1/4 oz. minimax chatterbait + 3.5" trailers -The new 4" topwater Zman GOAT Toadz rigged on a 4/0 EWG weightless -3/8 oz. spinnerbait -3/8 oz. dark sleeper -3/16 or 1/4 oz. finesse jigs + 3-3.5" trailers -3/16 to 1/4 oz. texas rigs + 4" plastics Should I go with the 842c or 843c conquest for these applications? Main concern is that the 843c would be too heavy for some of this stuff and not be able to load the baits up properly.

I'll throw 3/8 oz. or more with the 843c, but anything lower than that I'll throw with a Dobyns Xtasy 723c, which is also a MH, but has more flex in the tip to load lighter baits. I even throw a 1/10 oz. Ned Rig sometimes with the Xtasy. The 843c only weighs 3.8 oz. total and some people might throw 1/4 oz. baits with it, but I don't think the tip loads them well enough. If you have a scale and are able to weigh your baits and get exact weights on them with the hooks and everything and see what you throw more, 3/8 oz. or more or baits under that. The former I would go with the 843c, the latter the 842c. It's a big purchase though and I never actually used a 842c, so I would get a 2nd opinion from somebody who owns a 842c or maybe both. A good resource for that would be to ask that question on the Bass Resource Forums, they will be able to help you. I know a few people who have both rods there and some who have the 842c. You should get some quick replies there. Good Luck!

@@KJMFISHING Awesome- thank you for the reply. I have a medium and medium light spinning rod that should handle most baits that are under 3/8 in weight. The total weight that I'm throwing will generally be between that 3/8 and 1/2 mark for the casting rod. Some of them might even be slightly over that- so it sounds like the 843 will serve me well. Going to pull the trigger this week!

I love both of my Dobyns Xtasy and G.Loomis Conquest, but I would give a slight edge to the Conquest due to it weighing 3.8 oz. The Xtasy doesn't feel much heavier in the hand, but you do notice it after casting it several times. That and I like the Spiral -X in the blank from Shimano on the Conquest, it makes it cast a bit smoother. Both of mine are Medium Heavy, but I use them for completely different purposes. The Xtasy 723c is my finesse rod, even more versatile than my Conquest 843. I can throw 1/8 oz. Ned Rigs, 3/8 Jigs, Square Bills, Drop shots and more. The Conquest I use to throw heavier jigs and T-Rigs, heavier spinner baits and Chatter baits. Dobyns rods are more versatile IMO, but if you want a true MH Xtasy, go up to a 4 power.
